Using a setting lotion helps and setting on damp hair will help hold the curl. Sleeping in a hair net helps too

It depends on the humidity but using a setting product when rolling helps. Usually I wash my hair once a week and try to maintain or let it wear out naturally

I think the idea of a perm is to create curl that holds the hair set longer.
