I only heard George Reeves sing once before, on the Tony Bennett show about 60 years ago. I had long forgotten what a great voice he had . His fate is so sad. He was such a versatile performer. Great post.

Richard Hahn... how much do you remember of that Tony Bennett Show appearance. I'd be very interested in talking with you about it.

This is so cool... I hope there's more out there... I'd LOVE to hear him singing en Espanol with his friend, Natividad Vacio... All this should be preserved and put into the National Archives as culturally significant.

Vacio’s son does a talk at a dinner for George Reeves fans and it is on Utube. He said George knew weeks before his death and was very happy about his future in directing and the renewal of the Superman series. I also heard an interview with Noel Neil saying she knew and met George at the studio when she went to try on her costume. Reports say he just learned the day he died. It was great to hear from someone that was a very close friend and set a lot of facts straight. None of his family liked Lemon, called her a tramp and said George would never marry her. Also told about Tony stealing Sam. You should look up the interview it’s called MY FRIEND GEORGE REEVES AL VACIO

I watched him (George Reeves) every Friday night as Superman in the late 1950s.

Would love to see some of the shows he and Noelle Neil did together where they sang and he played guitar as himself, not Superman.

I think I can help here... There's a life that's lived to the hilt In the lilt of the gaucho's song (Ai-Yi!) Amigo, we go riding tonight. Riding tonight! To a distant town where the moon looks down From a purple sky, We may run into senoritas who Greet you with a sigh. There's a sweet embrace In the rhythm and race of the gaucho's song (Ai-Yi!) Amigo, we go riding tonight! Ai-yi, ai-yi, we ride! OLE'!!

Two things I always wanted to see and hear as a life long Reeves' fan; a candid interview of him, and to hear him sing. Shit, what a great post. He had a great voice. Now, a candid interview or even some sound candid footage. It's GOT to be out there somewhere.

This is not a genuine Soundie, but it is a great video. This is a clip from a 1940 Universal film "Argentine Nights". Four songs from this film were eventually put together as Castle Music Album #MA51 which was released to the home market in 1949. For more info see Castle Films: a Hobbyist's Guide by Scott MacGillivray. Thanks for posting.

They said Reeves was despondent when Superman was cancelled & that he'd be typscast. My research showed that Reeves had bookings as a singer (baritone-tenor), appeared on Ed Sullivan & was successful with it -- was looking forward to it. And yes, he could play guitar & could sing & speak in Spanish. His role in From Here To Eternity with Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra, Ernest Borgnine & Montgomery Clift was never cut down (that was an Hollywood myth). The screenwriter, director, Sinatra & Claude Akins all attest that all Reeves' scenes were in tact as written & filmed. It is true that in the book the character of Maylon Stark (George Reeves) was more important. But so were other characaters. The script was written long before Reeves was even cast. The Superman series had not yet taken off sufficiently to interfere with his movie roles. In this film it was a minor role & George was good. Lots about George's career has been blurred. I think his perosnal life was a little messy but George was still a handsome guy, even with white hair, had solid fame, recognition & was respected. I don't think he would have had any trouble finding new roles had he lived. George's friend actor Rory Calhoun said as much.

Pretty doubtful that that’s really Reeves’ voice. It’s a clip from a movie called Argentine Nights.
