Awesome! I could almost hear the thirsty handle drinking up the oil.

Thank you Sir! It really was impressive how much and how quickly it was soaking it in.

I like the leather swell saver. Might have to make one.

Thanks man! I'm a fan of it and it can be made with minimal leather. You could easily do it with an old belt and a few stitches of thread. I went with the copper rivets because they are quick, easy, and durable.

Thank you Sir! It was a fun build. I still need to put an edge on it and make some kind of sheath. I'm happy to have it in the collection though.

You’re right, you really can’t fake that aged look. Good choice on pairing the head and handle together. Turned out great. Also what were you doing with that windex and rusty axe head? I feel like it was a pro tip you need to share.

Haha, thanks! I'm not sure about a pro tip. It was more of an experiment. The part of the shoulder I shaped during hanging looked a bit fresh, so I tried to age it a bit. I took some steel wool and knocked some fine rust and dirt off that other head and onto the clean wood. Then I used the windex to help it soak into the wood more. I believe the ammonia in the windex also helps age the wood. After I hit it with my torch for a little more color and to dry it out. I wasn't sure if it would work. I'm happy with how well it blended into the older patina.

Thanks man!!! This was just some standard hardware store boiled linseed oil that I used. I still need to put an edge on this axe... and probably make a sheath lol

Was it the little leather cup protector or the craftsman mini hatchet sheath that caught your eye? I don't consider myself a great leather worker but I have been wanting to make a couple new sheaths for some axes. Maybe I'll make a video on how i do it and what I use. Thanks for watching man!
