“Slow Burn” was crafted from an official Glen Pray recreation of an Auburn Boattail. The fiberglass body made it difficult to alter extensively, so James Hetfield (Metallica frontman) and Dore instead added details, like a sloped, Carson-style convertible top, to emphasize the car’s curving lines. The root beer paint color of the fenders, in contrast with the darker body color, highlights their sinuous shape. Accents like the geometric grille, taillight trim, and personally designed wheels exemplify Hetfield’s personal style.
“SLOW BURN” SPECS:
----------------------------------------
The 1936 Auburn ‘Slow Burn’ boattail is the most expensive car in James Hetfield's collection with its estimated worth to be over $799,688. James got the idea for boattail when he came across a Glenn Pray’s fiberglass recreation of the 1936 Auburn 852 Speedster. So James got an original Pray classic’s body and handed it over to Rick Dore to start his work on the car. Dore customized the entire body of the car and hand fabricated most of the panels. After the bodywork was complete it was given a two-tone paint. For the interior Egyptian leather was used and most of the dials and gauges have been customized to look original.
