Thank you for this. My 95 year old mother will be thrilled to see this. She said she rode the incline all the time to see her aunt, uncle and cousins. Got off at the 4th St station and walked down to 3rd St. I too have been looking for video of the incline. Many thanks. Mom was born and raised in Duluth and always rode buses from West Duluth to downtown.

I've never seen such film footage of the Incline Railway, and I've been looking for years. This video is a real gem!

Absolutely a Jewel for those of us born in Duluth, and remember when it was a bustling city up to the early 1970’s.

So much of the charm and character of Duluth has been lost, mostly during the 1950s and 1960s during the great urban renewal which I refer to as urban destruction. There is virtually nothing left of the beautiful buildings in the downtown area.

Amazing. We go to Duluth every summer from the East Central side of the state. Absolutely love the area and anywhere on the north shore! Iconic area with some incredible views. Thanks so much for the share and footage... always wondered what is was like back in the earlier years !

Thanks for sharing this. I often heard my Mom talk about this trolley and heard people say they would like to bring it back to Duluth as a tourist attraction similar to those operating in San Francisco since Duluth has the hills for it.

0:28 You could see the old tracks at the top of 57th Avenue West until they repaved it last summer. The asphalt had worn down to the top of the track level. Wish I would of taken pictures before they paved over them again.

Really? I moved from Duluth right after the flood in 14’ I remember those tracks, they paved over them? Bummer.

@@Prodriver33 Yep. With our winters the roads don’t last long so I’m sure they’ll be visible again in 5 years since they only laid a thin coat of asphalt on top.

I visited Duluth once in my life with my dad about 1950 and I remember thinking it felt like the entire city was somehow glued to the side of a mammoth snowball and if you weren't careful you would fall off!

@8:28, that house with the stone bottom part is still there. You can see an old Jeep wagoner with lime green paint and windows parked in the drive, the guy is weird. I used to live on strawberry hill next to that.

This is an enigma all of his own all the mysteries that they have building it it's just really awesome awesome City and I live in Minnesota I'm mystified every time I visit those and from brainerd Minnesota but there's the Duluth area it's just really awesome or just different the way they built that City on a hill on the incline and on the down downwards for the shipyards it's just really a mystery how they build all this on the hill and it worked the engineering is just off the charts I would tell others just that they should visit Duluth Minnesota you're just beat you will be intrigued by the engineering process of how they build the city back and 1800s until the about 19 70s now people left for a while and now are coming back and 2020s??????🤔🤔🤗🤗👍👍⁉️⁉️⁉️🤷👷👷🕵️👩‍🏭🧒👩‍🔬👩‍🍳👩‍🎓👱🧕👮👩‍✈️🚦⛽🛑🚧🧭🚋🚑🚒🚂🚉🚘🤠🛤️🛣️🏦🏨🏢🏭🏟️🏚️🏥🥌🎿🏒⛸️🚁⛵🛶⛲⛪💒🥇🎳🎰🎲🎺🎻🎨🖌️🎶🎷🎚️🎟️🎭📺📻🖥️💿📠📱🛒🔎🔐⚔️🔔

1:02 Central Avenue seems extremely wide compared to what it is today. The two brick buildings are still around, so I’m guessing the sidewalks have gotten wider?

Any photos of the construction of the rails or incline? Or was this technology inherited?

Great example of more infrastructure we found and claimed to build. I mean, how did every town on planet get street cars in 1800s? Manaus Brazil AND Duluth, haha, what a crock.

HA HA HA Right? Everybody, everywhere gets a streetcar. Your town got 300 people, NP, have some streetcars. On the side of a mountain, we got you fam. In the middle of the jungle, before you even get there, we're already there. HA HA HA

This more and more homeless people take to walking it's hard to get up that hill the incline was beautiful would you get rid of it for

The local Ojibways know this land was stolen,bel8eve me! There are Ayahuasca and various DMT ceremonies being held right underground downtown to keep us connected to our ancesters,we have been there for longer than they say...
