Wow! What a fabulous pair of sides. Why can't we have music like that now? Even the cover is beautiful!
Just glad I live in KC Missouri where this kind of music is still alive. That being said I still think this is better.
To be in loveeeeeeee 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍one day I will sing all these songs to my dream girl and it will be grand

What a photo! I had no idea Smith Ballew looked as good as he sounded! Love the white tie, shadows and cigarette to complete the image of 1920s urbanity. Thanks for sharing another treasure.
I think this is the most astonishing sound quality I've yet heard out of a 1929 Columbia - you can definitely hear sheet music being quietly rustled at the start of Ballew's vocal on "To Be In Love", and you are also aware he's using a separate microphone. The balance and tonal qualities are just amazing. Bravo !! (And some pretty terrific sides, too - I give "To Be In Love" the edge. Gret arrangement!)
Excellent remastering, even better than many commercial CDs. (clap! clap! clap!)
All that great music that I was not alive to hear back then! With my own collection and KZread I can savor it anytime!
Superb sound from 1929!
Super excellent with very good photo
a very underrated group and they had fabulous backing

Sam Lanin's "Ipana Troubadours" had already established themselves on radio for several years prior to this recording.
Delightful
Both songs are good, but I espcecially love "To Be In Love"... Love the violin plunks and the cymbol crashes!
Great sound
Listening to quality music like this, well, THAT'S LIVING !! This is a great post, and I thank you for sharing it.
Both tunes are beautiful, the band is tight, the arrangements are very dancy and Smith Ballew has a beautiful voice which fits to the band perfectly. Thank you very much for posting.

@@Prozoot Dear Mr. Robles! Thank you very much for your reply. I appreciate your compliments a lot. The fact, that somebody, who knows a lot about dance music and hot jazz from twenties and thirties says such a nice words is the best satisfaction for me and all the members of the Bratislava Hot Serenaders. Thank you very much, indeed. By the way - I love the sound quality of your channel very much and the unified layout, as well. Beautiful work...
Beautiful. Good music is timeless. Thankyou...
Super excellent with photo
@chompo7 BOY I SURE AGREE!!! Most of the time when some people try to clean up a recording from this era, It sounds as if it was playing under water, Just horrable!!! Prozoot does a supre FANTASTIC job posting these BEAUTIFUL recordings!!
As Roybo says - your attention to quality is outstanding. Some of the noise-reduction attempts from even professional CD makers are a disgrace, in comparison.
So, so good!
Very pleasing
Enjoyable
not sure how you do it but whatever it is your videos sound a million times better than any cd remastered release! i would love to see an explanation of how you get such pristine awsome sound out of a 78!

Columbia 78s from that period before amalgamating with HMV had the best surfaces and highest quality sound.Cant remember if they were using the Western Electric system or Blumlein at that time.

Western Electric (they referred to it as the "Viva-tonal electric process").
You can hear that even as early as this companies were experimenting with true hifi recording.Of course when RCA made their first really good ribbon microphone, which was hell to set up, because of the risk of overloading the diafragm, things really took a surge upwards. Too bad they had to equalize down, because the average gramophone simply couldn't cope with the dynamics and frequency range. A situation that existed till the 1960s when hifi finally became affordable to Joe Public.

RCA Victor's 1932 recordings are the ultimate.
Recorded on May 14, 1929.
Smith had a rather-pitched voice for a man 6'5" tall, but he's alright
