Hi Bill, Having a passion for old stoves and lanterns (more recently), my other passion is old VW's (pre '67) They too are well made and highly restorable. However, lots of rusted fasteners. I've used, as a penetrant, 50-50 mix of acetone and ATF (automatic transmission fluid). The mixture needs to be stored in an air tight container due to the volatility of acetone. The mixture readily separates so you'll need to shake the vessel before using it. Seems to work well at times and is cheap to make. Also, MAPP gas gives a little more of a heat kick than standard propane. Give these a try. Hope this helps. Great video btw!

Great series! Thank you so much! Do you know if there is a listing somewhere of model numbers and years? I am looking for Prentiss wabers camp stove for 1930. What model would be current for spring 1930 you think? Thx! David

You could probably find that information if you did some digging in the Coleman Collector Forum or Classic Camp Stoves forum.

Thanks for that video. I like the light sanding and mothers. You cleaned it up well. I used boiled linseed oil on #2 stove. Have you tried it? The only thing i didn’t like about blo was the wait time to dry.

Yes. I've got another video in the works. I acquired a 9 and a 2D that I treated with BLO. They'd been repainted with a matte paint by a previous owner, so I didn't want to strip and repaint, but they needed some shine and the tank on the 9, which was still original, needed something for protection.

Hey Bill I just acquired a Master Chef Auto-Camp Stove Sears & Roebuck Co with cast iron grates circa 1926 it’s similar to the Coleman model 5 but fuel tank mounts on the right like yours when got the stove the generator cleaning needle was broke off and stuck inside the Jet by previous owner is there any Common stove tip cleaner rod that’s Compatible with these or am up the creek without a paddle LoL it’s the exact same burner assembly & fuel tank as yours here in this video

I have no idea what the diameter or length, but it seems like most suitcase stoves have gas jets of similar size, so it's very possible that a cleaning rod from something like a Coleman 425 might work. I expect you'd need to cut it to length and rethread the end, but there's a good chance it could work.

Hi Bill, i just got one of these stoves, im having trouble understanding the fuel cap, when i tighten the outside piece the inside piece is also tight, im pretty sure this is supposed to move like a valve to open to use the pump to apply pressure and then seal to shut off, min could possibly be sensed i have applied some wd40 so may take a while to losein up, i don't have the original pump so will probably have to use a bike pump, i really enjoy your channel by the way i find it very informative, and love your wonderful collection, i also have a KZread channel you may like to check out. Thanks Bruce

To pressurise the tank, be sure the whole cap is tightened and has a good gasket in it, then unscrew the inner portion of the cap. There's an air passage underneath it and screwing it down seals that passage off. Once unscrewed a pump can be applied. If you don't have an original pump, a Coleman pump or even a ball pump will work just fine. There's also a check valve inside that centre portion of the cap, to keep the air from leaking back out while you pump it up. The small bearing inside sometimes gets stuck, but can usually be freed up with a wire or pick. If it doesn't seal, try soaking in carb cleaner. Once you've got the tank pressurised, screw the inner portion of the cap down to seal it and you should be good to go. If the inner and outer portions of the cap are stuck, try using pliers to unscrew the inner part. I've never had one that seized up that it didn't unscrew pretty easily with something to get a good hold of it. If it still won't unscrew, let some penetrating oil sit on it, give it a couple of days, and try again.

I paid US$30 for it when I was down in the States earlier this year. I can't say if that represents the going rate since these never turn up for sale in my part of the world.

Yeah, that's definitely not market value. You can find crazy prices online. People like to look at eBay to get an idea of market value, but forget that eBay is a global marketplace. If you're selling something locally, you're looking at a much smaller market and significantly reduced demand. For what it's worth, I bought mine from the owner of Old Coleman Parts, whom I expect has a pretty good grasp of the market.
