1916 Antique Rusty Axe Restoration - Restoration Videos - Making Leather Axe Sheath .
Greetings Y’all after a long break, I ve not been around for a quiet some time due to some health issues, please accept my apologies. In this project ,I ve restored a old made axe. Initially the axe weight 1650 gr by the time I ve finished the project , it came down to 1500gr. I decided to sanblasted first. In order to make it mirror polished ,I had to file it by electric equipments and by hand. I lasered the emblem and the date which was faded in the first place to the same spot and I enlarged the emblem a bit. Big thanks to ‪@leonartatelier‬ for assisting me with the laser work. Also thanks to ‪@byOldHand‬ assisting me with sharpening the axe. I thought it be good idea to use padouk for the handle since it is used to make musical instruments because the echoing sound of the axe seemed to me as it comes from an instrument. I fitted the geometrical parts of the axe into the handle so it has gained an aesthetical look. I had planned 70 or 80 cm for the handle however I figured 75 cm would be better during the process. I was assisted by ‪@sanlicraft‬ for the leather accessories, many thanks to him. I did not want to have a leather case only, I also wanted to have a leather shoulder strap so I can get around with it in the woods. I d thought it d be a short project but it took 30 days in order for me to complete all the process. All of my efforts worthed at the end since the final product looks pretty cool. I hope you like this project of mine as well, if you do like please do not forget to click the like button and share your comments, I can not wait to read them. See you at my next project, Warm Regards.

Wow! lThe result of this one is really beyond words. My wife said that couldn't be the same axe. I told her THAT'S why I watch your work. Well done, sir. Well done. Is there any way you could include the number of hours over how long you have in your projects? Just to give folks a better idea of the time it takes to complete the kind of next level work you do. Already looking forward to the next one.

I mean he isn't restoring historically significant artifacts but this the first restoration where I felt the amount of work done is far far too much. He killed the soul of the thing. He should have left a postmark sized area of unpolished metal around the original stamps so that they remain in their original state. It would have looked great and would tie the axe to it's origin. Now it's laser branded like a generic Russian souvenir. He erased everything this object had in terms of authenticity, identity and for what, so I can be more shiny? What about is now from 1916: now only the metal molecules the axe have been put together in 1916, _everything_ else has been deleted and you'd never guess even that much by looking at it. He's a great craftsman and a great youtuber, but lacks sensibility and taste sometimes. Imagine him "restoring" the great sphinx of Giza or anything remotely important. I shudder to think.

@@meinemechaniker that's really not the attitude to bring to this discussion. We are all in awe of your technical and creative prowess. But that doesn't mean you can't improve. It's not obvious to me what you could improve when it comes to craftsmanship so I keep my mouth shut about those things. But I do think there is room for conceptual improvement - not only how a thing looks and how it performs but what it means and what makes it special. Most of the objects you restore are cool not only for their timeless design and robust utility that endures through the decades - they are also cool because they are relics from the past and have their journey. Every object has a story and to me it's important that you can "read" that story from the object itself, that some small part at least remains fully genuine. Ask yourself why a rare Breguet or Patek loses half it's value when you clean, polish and "improve it"? The original state is subjectively and also monetarily valuable because it can never be done again, while you can restore it once or ten times, now or in 50 years - you can always do this. When Norman Foster restored the Reichstag, he didn't wash the walls and plaster over the damage - yes the building is restored and fully functional, ultra modern. But you can still read russian scrawl on the walls when soviet soldiers occupied Berlin and freed it from the Nazis. This russian graffiti makes it not less but more special and valuable - not because it's pretty but because it's genuine. It''s the real thing. Look, I'm just a random nobody from the internet and I'm not giving a lecture here. You're a great craftsman and I enjoy your videos. I take for granted that you don't care much about what I say so you are in no danger from some random comment. Feel free to forget about all this - I might have come out a bit strong and impolite but I only hope that you consider my point of view if that will add another dimension to your work. That's all.

I am a little bit confused. :D Your channel name is german and you use some german items, the city is declared as moskova and it seems you understand russian and spansih aswell? :D Anyways. What a legend. I hope your health issues are completly gone and you enjoy your new year as best as possible. Greetings from Germany Elias aka abgebrueht (:

@@meinemechaniker Let's not be dramatic. No catharsis here. I enjoy your videos. My point is simple: Sometimes we come across objects with a history to tell. Egyptian museums are full of artifacts from a bygone era. We could not learn from history without objects to reveal stories. Your axe head is more than just an axe head. It was from 1916 -one year before the Russian revolution... This axe may have played a part in that. Perhaps it was the axe that helped break the wooden gate of the winter palace in St. Petersburg -helping the Bolsheviks gain access to the Romanovs hiding inside.. Maybe.. We can only speculate because it is possible that it could have happened -it was made in 1916. Unfortunately it is now defaced. The stamps (the proof of originality) are gone. Everything that was original and interesting is gone. It is now an oddly shaped, smooth and shiny chunk of metal without any history, heritage or details of production. It could have been made in China in 2021. Who knows.? Laser engraving from 2022 has no bearing on its originality. It's potential value now severely reduced. Paradoxically NATO see China as a threat to our culture and security. Religious extremists say they want to erase our history. Well -they don't have to. We do it ourselves.

@@meinemechaniker Well -until YT takes it down. Keep in mind -the axe is a potential weapon. It may be used to inflict violence -and there are no safe spaces in your videos. For all we know it may also be homophobic, transphobic, sexist and racist. It may also not be carbon neutral -one of the worst crimes. Add to that: the handle is made out of exotic wood, perhaps from the rainforest !! -"how dare you" And -the sheath is made from innocent, peacefully grazing friendly animals, slaughtered by evil white men for their hides, and it doesn't even have a BLM logo. Also we do not see you wearing a mask wile working. Maybe you're anti vax? Can we be sure your videos are not spreading the virus.? Once someone is "triggered" and feel unsafe or discriminated against, YT will remove the video. Guidelines... As you can see, I've used many words to trigger YTs algorithms -so as to put focus on this video. So we shall see for how long it stays up.. But -keep on making them. Be one step ahead of the algorithms and blue haired horde. 😀
