My aunt's father-in-law had the last working steam powered yarder in the puget sound region possibly on the west coast. I know PBS used to show a clip of a steam yarder pulling itself across a creak. That was them .

Grand Dad started out as a wood split for a steam donkey , yellow fir Eastern Washington. he said they would drag up the longesst clearest wood for fuel. he would set the drag saw and start splitting. I cannot remember the name of the company, they went out and back on the train that would move them and the logs., Big main line, over an inch. stretched out a long way. When he got to change to setting chokers, he said you did not even stand up until you knew where you were going. no go ahead easy with a steam donkey.

Very cool. Thanks a bunch. Watching that I am sure that those old steam donkeys chewed up more than one good man. I think there is an old boiler up behind elk lake.. looks like one anyways. The man coming at the camera with the orange sunglasses was the man I met. I am guessing he is Lewes son. Long story that includes an x girl of his.LOL

    @@DanielBoonesloggingvideos yes, the shotgun carriage

you stop the carriage then slack the skyline and hook up the logs via chokers attached to carriage.then pick up the skyline to get desired deflection and go ahead on the mainline that brings the carriage with logs attached. thats a good question, does my answer cover all that you were asking William ?

@@DanielBoonesloggingvideos yes that does, thank you. I've seen some other videos from other places in the Southeast that has cables from a skyline and stuff left from old logging operations and I always wondered how it was used.
