19 Camper Modifications - Gadget Geeks Rejoice

The beauty of these after-market camper mods is that they can work on MANY different rigs other than our Escapade Backcountry that we call, "Poe." Following is a run down of each camper change in the video with a link to jump to that part of the video, and product links.

These is a great video! We took our Escapade out for the first time this weekend. Your mods are giving us some great ideas for what we want to do as well. The holder for the jack crank handle is my favorite. I’ve been looking for a place to hang that thing. Keep up the videos!

Hi ya, ottoswinebar. Thanks for stopping by and the kind note. The Cam-Jam is new to us too. It has such a fun, memorable name. We needed a solution and were standing in the hardware store on the bungee cord aisle. We didn't really want a bungee cord for this purpose, but it's the closest thing we could think of. Browsing EVERY shelf, we hoped something would "jump out" at us and say, "I'm what you need." And lo and behold, it did! Pretty cool that they have them in beautiful Australia too.

Thank you for sharing your modifications. May I suggest that SAE connectors work, but our portable power system changed out all of ours this year to Anderson-style PowerPole connectors from Powerwerx. They offer better connectioins, higher amperage, and tethers to prevent loosening. The Powerwerx line of connectors, tools, guages and accessories are among the best for DIY'ers like us.

I like the interlocking foams, the magnetic door stops, and folding mattress. They are great upgrades/modifications. I wish the manufacturer upgrades the door hinge to wind-resistant. I question ALL RV monitoring gauge/reading accuracy (battery charging, water level, etc.); they are junk. The floor is easily replaceable with aluminum when the plywood is rotted. They cheap out on the floor. Increasing fuse amp is great to reduce the burnout; however, there is a small risk of fire hazard because if the electrical wire is small, not rated for higher fuse amp, it will get hot and will melt and cause fire. I only run portable electric heater; it's safer and more efficient than propane heater.

Hi David. Thank you for watching, and for the question. Clearance lights are not required on a trailer of the size we have because it is less than 80" wide. This reference covers the lighting requirements: www.dps.texas.gov/section/commercial-vehicle-enforcement/lighting-chart

@@wobblyotteroutdoors I went ahead and put some 3/4 button lights (After all the hours I put in on the fiberglass and topcoat it was hard to drill that first hole😅) They look nice and they'll help with night set ups. I'll post a short vid. Thank you for your response! Have a Happpy One!

How deep are your cabinets in the galley area? Do you wish you had a pass through?

  • @wobblyotteroutdoors

The galley is 21.5" deep. We do have a pass through from the cabin to the top shelf of the galley, and are happy with that. We got the optional cabin cabinets, and those along with the cabin shelves provide plenty of interior storage.

Nice mods. Where's the power plug for the travel fridge, and are you thinking about installing a slide for it?

Thank you. Oh, to have a 12-volt fridge. That's a cooler (ice chest) in the video. We have discussed getting a 12-volt fridge and how to get power to it. That project is currently shelved. At least it's on the list. It will be interesting to see how it develops.

Do the lights have a blue light in them all the time?

Hi, Matt. No, the little blue light is not on all the time. The first tap turns on the small blue light, which is sort of like a night light.

You have no idea how I appreciate a camper storage/setup video that isn't amazon affiliated. I have to buy plenty of things from them as we are in very rural Wy right now but the affiliate links in every other video are just excessive and frankly, I'm sick of amazon. I like your method of showing what you bought but not recommending any one place to buy the items. Hence, a question. Those lights you have that have a number of different settings, what are they called? I really like those!

Thank you for watching and the comments. They are called RV/boat dimmable, 12-volt ceiling lights. Here is a link to the one we purchased (we bought it through Amazon) so that you can see it, as well as other suggested items related to it and reviews. amzn.to/2Qija7O It is our WOO affiliate link. Regardless of what is purchased after using one of our affilitate links, we may earn a small commission. It helps keep our channel going. We appreciate everyone who watches our videos, as well as those who find our product and informational links helpful.

🤣 We didn't have any cutting oil, so we used 30-weight motor oil... thus the smoke. Kinda dramatic looking isn't it? Thank you for reminding us. Cutting oil will be in the shop soon.

the dual smoke & carbon detectors not good choice bc 1 rises ceiling mount & 1 is heavier than air & sinks, but better than not hving them & tiny short ceiling camper so fine in this case.

Thanks for the info about the different layers of each type of danger. We appreciate too that those layers are compressed in the tiny campers short air space - and prefer to have some warning system. We mostly have it to help warn about carbon monoxide.
