The instrument was at Finchcocks for many years and documented by Alastair Lawrence who examined it technically. Now tuned to Kirnberger III temperament the instrument comes to life amongst the instruments at Hammerwood Park, Sussex UK, tuned by David Pinnegar. This was Broadwood's concert grand, used by the Hallé Orchestra and was probably in the London showroom played by Clara Schumann. It was bought at the new price of 250 guineas by a member of the audience in Manchester who said that it was the most amazing piano he'd ever heard. Straight strung, it was instruments like this which inspired Steinway.
