1850's Chuck Wagon Coffee Grinder Restoration
Ойын-сауық
In this antique restoration video, I am restoring an 1850's chuckwagon coffee grinder. This belongs to a family friend of ours and will be installed on a chuckwagon they will have at their home.
This was a challenging restoration, and I encountered many firsts.
Welding very thin sheet metal.
Japanning - (If you'd like a video on this process, leave a comment below)
Budget Hydroforming - (Same with this one) I had fun doing this
Overall I am extremely pleased with the result. If you have any questions leave a comment below!
Time spent - 6 weeks
Money invested - $150 in materials

Very nice restoration. Make a good gift for a coffee drinker.
Its nice to see people refurbish these old things instead of throwing them away
I like the way you explained all the steps and put what products you were using to accomplish what you needed. Yes please do a video on japanning.

Nice work. The Japanning was fantastic! Thank You
Very envious of this one. That is a fine piece. Meticulous restoration. Great to see this put back into working order and not just a show piece.
Your attention to the fine details and use of traditional finishes is admirable!

Getting addicted to these restoration videos. You don’t even have to appreciate the item, but you can appreciate all the different techniques. Japanning was new to me and great job on creating the badge. Many other parts I enjoyed as well, but those stood out. Nice work.

Man I couldn’t believe my eyes, my great aunt had one of those in her kitchen out on the ranch between Weatherford and Mineral Wells Texas. My great uncle said he found on the back of an abandoned wagon outside the Fort Worth stock yards in about 1908 or 9 when he worked there..

My grandpa had some old things lying around,, even kept his cast iron stove till around 73,, 1973 that is,, and gramma cooked the best pies in it,, !!!,, so yeah, seeing something from a bygone age, (before ALL of us were born), is fascinating, and it still works!!

Great video. This is how the restoration of an antique should be done, not just replace and spray paint but keeping as much of the original as possible. I just hope other 'restorers' watch this and take note. I also love the way you present, excellent job.
Great restoration this thing was a mess and you turned it into a master piece
Wow. Impressive resto. Also love the closely aligned before and after shots at the end.

I don't think I'm easily amused but I can watch these restoration videos all day, and sometimes I do. This was very cool because I love all things western (as i Cowboys and wagon trains) . That custom finish mix you applied looks very authentic for the time. So many of the restorations I see on KZread use finishes (e.g., powder coating) that give an especially fine appearance, though they look much more refined than would have been the case back in the day. Excellent work really.

You should use solder for cosmetic repairs like this. No need to weld and deal with all the splatter and over welding. Or use a tig.
