arm was damaged in 1916 by a huge explosion on an island nearby so tourists can't go there anymore since so anyone pretending having been there is either a liar or has false memories

What. The ladder isn't damaged... during the black tom incident the arm bent forwards, they fixed it but they finally decided not to let people back up since it's a pain to even get there. People reportly got scared to even get back down, the arm also sways more than the rest of it.

I don't know how accurate this is....growing up we always had field trips to visit elis island and we walked the statue several years in a row...I remember we could walk up further then the crown(observation deck)..but wonder if we only walk the arm
