175) The GR10 (part 8)

The GR10 (grande randonnée dix) is located in the south of France. It is a 954-kilometre hike that traverses the Pyrenees mountain range from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Mediterranean Sea in the east. The guidebook outlines a 55-day itinerary to complete it. This is day 29 to 32 for me, August 1st to August 4th, 2023.
Refuge d’Artigue Au Gîte de Mounicou
Kms à date: 651 of 954kms
Ascent à date: 37 400m (67.6 CN Towers)
Day 29 to 32
August 1 to 4, 2023.

I try! I have a horrible memory already, but on this hike, as well, there was just way too much beauty to process. I’m so glad I’ll have these videos to look at after. This channel is also my memory book. Nice to hear from you, Anson. Eight days left here in Paris, and then I come home! Looking forward to it. Thanks for all your support, as always. 🥰🙏🏼✌🏼

Well, you missed the snow but you got a little cold and rain. Still looks like you are enjoying yourself (except for that painful little toe.) It might be kindle of difficult for it to heal since it has to take such a beating on the trail each day. I guess you will just have to somehow work around it for a while and hope that those pain meds keep working for you. You will find a way. Thanks for allowing us to join you, see you on the next one.

My morning routine consisted of wrapping the toe and popping an Advil. This was enough to cope. I ran out of Advil during the most remote section of the trail, though, and passed no pharmacy or place to buy more. Benoit, though, took it upon himself to inquire among one town’s few citizens and found me both ibuprofen and Doliprane. So very thoughtful of him. He found me enough to last me to the end of the hike. I’m forever grateful to him. Thank you for all your lovely comments throughout this adventure, Mister Campfire. I read them in real time but wasn’t able to respond. Thank you again. I hope you had a great summer, too! 🥰🙏🏼✌🏼

Looking at the maps, Gite de Mounicou is one of the few places the GR10 meets the HRP which then connects to the GR11 in Spain.

@@Womaninthewoods13 My brother lives near Olot just off the GR11 so I was going to start there. Hike GR11 to Andorra then link up to GR10 via HRP and continue west till time runs out. Won't have time to do the through hike so will bail when it time. It looks like the hike offers plenty of opportunities to bail when needed which is not something you get much in Australia on a long hike.

Oh, who maintains the cabins/shelters? Is there a “GR 10” conservancy like the “AT” conservancy we have here? Hoping one of your adventures will bring you to the AT soon! Take care and be careful 🇫🇷🇨🇦🇺🇸 🤍❤️💙

It really depends. Some are shepherd cabins that are independently owned and so kindly shared with hikers. Some are maintained by whoever passed through, not by any organized system. Some are maintained by organizations. Some are not maintained and in ruins. It really depends. Yes, I may do the AT one day (and PCT). It would be wonderful to meet you! 😊
