173) The GR10 (part 6)

The GR10 (grande randonnée dix) is located in the south of France. It is a 954-kilometre hike that traverses the Pyrenees mountain range from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Mediterranean Sea in the east. The guidebook outlines a 55-day itinerary to complete it. This is day 21 to 24 for me, July 24th to July 27th, 2023.

Kms à date: 515 of 954kms
Ascent à date: 29 100m

I am a little late here because I was travelling and camping for the past 2 weeks. I am happy to see that you have put out some new videos during my absence so I will get caught up with your adventurous thru hike. A very good one here to start with I see. It's a good thing that you are filming this because you will have to revisit the videos this winter in order to finish absorbing the beauty of what is surrounding you at each corner that you take on this long and difficult trail. The views are amazing for certain. Thanks again for taking your camera along to share it with us Christina, I will see you on the next one.

Exactly! There was way too much to take in in one go, and I definitely plan to watch this series myself at some point. Thanks for watching, and commenting, as always, my dear! 🥰🙏🏼✌🏼

Thanks for sharing days 21-23 with us. I loved seeing what was the end of my hike again, and seeing a bit of what lay east of Luchon. So glad your 8 km leg helped give you some energy back. If you ever make it back, the hike off the GR 10 to Lac Espingo between the Lac d'Oo and Luchon is lovely.

@@Womaninthewoods13 All I know is that the refuge Espingo was about 15 minutes uphill from the GR10. I'm not sure how many trails go off from there. It looked like mostly rock climbing from what I could see!

@@karenbergmann209 There are next-to-no bugs here in France. It’s nuts. When someone complained about the handful of mosquitoes, I laughed and told them about Canada, how they only come in hordes, how I carry a machine (Thermacell) with me to cope, etc. I wore no bug spray the entire summer. Definitely going to hike here again! There’s a heatwave happening here now, it’s brutal. Anyhoo, I’m happy to hear you still got out there. I’m not surprised. 🥰

Another great video! Sorry to hear about your boots! Is there a way to make a one time donation outside of Patreon? What were you eating near the end at the cafe? Looked like cat food!!! Stay safe and stay healthy (physical and mental) The views continue to be amazing!!!

Yes! You can e-transfer me at womanintheoods13@gmail.com. That would be a HUGE help! I was eating pâté, which is very similar looking to a can of cat food, I agree! Who knows how similar it tastes!? 🤣😂 You should see my boots now, they are almost front-end flip flops, haha! Ten days left! Very bittersweet! 🥰

Serious and deep question for ya... I have hiked "only" 20km through the Zhangjiajie mountains in China (think Avatar, the movie). And, at some point into it, the "overload" of gorgeous natural beauty started to sort of desensitize me from it. What I mean is, it began to get slightly boring and more like a chore... it was a constant barrage of beautiful and unique sight. I cannot remember going through one single stretch that was truly boring. But, after a while.... I don't know... it was like drugs, or something. It just felt like my "tolerance" went up too quickly. Do you know what I mean? Did that happen at all to you? Walked about 20 miles of the Great Wall, too. Same thing happened. After a few miles... "oh, look.. more wall." Sure wish I had video of that trek, now, of course. I would *love* to sit back and appreciate it slowly, now. Maybe that was the issue? Maybe because it was so planned and the pace felt forced? If we could take longer and mosey?

Yes! I know exactly what you mean. Sensory overload. Hence why I am thankful for the foggy days when you can’t see a thing. You just hike, nose to the ground, get the work done. Wow, now you have me thinking about hiking in China! 🥰

Sure wish I could help by being a patreon but I'm struggling on a fixed income currently :( Maybe someday! Since you shot this set of videos almost two weeks back, I hope things are going well into what will soon be mid-August. I'm absolutely stunned at the beauty of the French Pyrenees. Stay well and safe.
