30 or 35 years ago I was living in small town in mexico, and old man ,he was car electrician,he build with wind turbine and car alternator and two car bateries, power for the whole house, only no't for the refrigerator, but the house had power including 2 t.v.now the house have regular power because they have washer, drier, refrigerator,blender,etc.

It is not a voltage regulator. It is a rectifier which converts AC current to DC current

Jeff, you are correct all metal parts are new and the blades are not labeled with Raptor (or anything) and are black with a new paint job. The PMA has a different wiring harness and it was painted yellow so I cannot see any markings on it to say what it is.

This a car alternator for max 150 W (rotor could be modified for permanent magnets) and high rpm > 700

None of the wind generators that I see on KZread seem to have any kind of speed control. Out here on the high desert of Arizona we get some strong winds and a speed unregulated wind generator would tear itself to pieces in a short time... Some years ago, I built a 3 level Savonias rotor out of galvanized stove pipe that was 6 feet high. The cups were spring loaded so that they opened as the speed increased to slow the rotor down..The vertical shaft was mounted on an auto front wheel bearing and belt drove an auto alternator charging six 2 volt telephone company batteries. These were discarded batteries weighing 250 lbs each and had lots of life left in them for my use... I used them to power my Ham Radio station, KB7NK

Hey Brian, Please keep us posted on your results. But that 1600w turbine, looks like an old style GM alternator that's been painted yellow. If that's what it is and it works out, it could be a huge breakthrough for the DIY wind power enthusiast. And best news is they're only $25. at any local auto salvage yard. No having to pay for shipping!!

Great job in your explanation of a wind turbine, however, I see that you are mainly using the two (2) 6-volt connected batteries in your trolley to now form one (1) 12-volt battery. But, what purpose did the two (2) 6-volt batteries on the right (R) side of your trolley perform? Also, what type of a 12-volt car battery works best: AGM, regular battery or gel type. And. at what CCA would be best? Thank you.

The bolt is not too long. It supposed to be longer so the blades cannot hit the pole easily

I actually saw 30amps DC out of this turbine with a good wind.

you may be right about 12 volt pmg/alternators but i do want to inform you. That PMG is NOT 12V that generator in the video has 3 wires making it a 3 phase 120V. The box with 5 pins that the poster calls a regulater is not a regulator. Its infact a AC to 12Converter so you can runn the cheaper wire from the windmill to your setup, then convert it to 12v then use larger wire so you dont loose any AMPS. I'll soon be getting a full size generator my self and might post some vids

correct! car generators cannot be used directly as wind generators without stepping their speed up through a two-stage planetary gear. furher you need their rotor coil replaced with a neo ring magnet using aluminium or hard plastic, like delrin, as a spacer in place of the rotor coil-core to keep the poles apart, whilst tayloring its diameter to the ID of the ring magnet to keep it in centre. if the length of the magnet is short then take it up by same size iron spacer as the magnet 4tight fit.

Why does it have a pivot bolt hole and a locking bolt hole? The housing is definitely a car alternator housing. Can't say what's inside, but the idea of how readily available alternators are, and the fact that they come with built-in voltage regulators would make this kind of thing much more relative to cheap power for the common man.

That's not a Missouri Wind turbine. Look inside the pma, that's Thermodynes pma, not ours. All of our blades are light grey. That was a counterfeit made by Thermodyne qaz661 and sold as ours.

How can it be 1600w? Its impossible with that small of a wind area. It's like putting a 1000lt/h pump to a 10lt/h water stream and then wonder why it won't pump those 1000lt that is is capable of...

Look up Betz law on wind. With 6 feet in diameter you can get up to about 20 watts out.

I actually sold the turbine, at my location there was not enough wind to generate power. The person I sold it to has a better setup for wind. He is finding that these MW&S turbines do not make power until they are spinning very fast.

I am questioning what type of turbine this actually is, I bought it off of Ebay as a "Used Missouri Wind and Solar 1600w". After looking at the 1600w units on their site this does not look like it at all.

You seem like a nice enough guy. Sorry you got ripped off. There's a reason they can be sold so cheap. If you have the means, you should consider buying a "real" Missouri Wind & Solar turbine. You will be much happier in the long run. Give them a call. They're great at helping you get the best product for you situation. Best of luck to you.

that's not a car alternator. It's a permanent magnet alternator.

We tested the same turbine - max 300 watts, never 1600!!!

, it should be as high as possible , 50 to 60 feet , it should only need 3 blades , the more blades it has the slower it goes , and if you have 11 to 13 blades and it's under 20 feet , yeah maybe 300 to 400 watts ,

+racketman2u I agree, 1600 watt woud need heavy wire, this seems to be a modified car alternator (the largest ones I have seen put out about 1200 to 1600 watt, at high RPMs and get hot), 1600 watt means also a baseline power of above 2 hp, plus losses which could put the number in a ballpark of 4 hp total, or, for a two square meter fan a wind speed arround 50 km/hr (30 mph)

That's a Thermodyne wind turbine, not a Missouri wind turbine. They don't make a 13 blade wind turbine. Those are hornet blades. The raptor generation 4 blades are twice as wide and grey, they say raptor usa on the butts. Thermodyne,qaz661 on eBay ripped you off. You won't get any power from those 13 hornet blades. felejtsd el, ! a generátorokból épített dinamók nem tudnak 1600 w ,. a gyári gen is csak 35 - 55 A ez átszámolva 300 - 600 w max !! butaság az egész ! Normál 1 m átmérő szélkereke kb 100 -160 w energiát képes termelni .

Sadly Brian Shaw has orphaned this post. It would be interesting to see if he is/was pleased with his purchase or disappointed due to poor workmanship. As a knock off there would almost certainly be expected shortfalls in performance and durability. Perhaps he is embarrassed by a mistaken purchase and wishes not respond?

Those are hornet blades painted white. Replace them with REAL raptor blades from missouri wind and solar. Those are cheap black plastic blades.

Missouri Wind and Solar has nothing to prove, thermodyne does. Paul Geist wrote an article on thermodyne and the owner Ron Graefe in 2001. Thermodyne CLAIMED TO HAVE THE MOST POWERFUL WIND TURBINE IN THE WORLD " with a car alternator? " Go to my channel and see the article. The wind world was amazed at thermodyne's claim so much that they sent an authority on wind turbines, Paul Geist, to interview Graefe. Geist said the California Attorney General will get involved with thermodyne. Phil

That's not a Missouri Wind and Solar turbine. That's another cheap knock off by thermodyne. Thermodyne has been busted over and over for it. CarlVanDoren below is thermodyne. Ebay was removing him for counterfeiting MWS. Thermodyne is no longer a top rated seller and on selling restrictions.

This would only ever produce 1600 watts if being powered by a car engine , you will only get a few hundred watts max from this, misleading in the extreme.

Looks like you have A Refurbished, car altanator. Maybe with the diode's, bridge rectifyer, missing".... LOLOL okay well, now that you have it, put it together and, see what she can do.

Not refurbished but modified with magnets inside and a special wound stator coil.

That size of blades cannot even produce 20 watts. even if you put a very long blades it will not produce big power because you are just using car alternator. you dont know the mind of the children today. they are not easy to just believe.

Wrong, Orlan7s1 has decided to keep his Chinese made Drone and get rid of the junk thermodyne firebird. All he got was 35 watts at 17 mph with the firebird..some higher instantanious watts in 35 mph wind which don't count. Get your facts straight thermodyne.
