5 Years ago in 2016 Greg traveled to New Orleans to visit the Roman Chewing Candy wagon. At the time lots of stories were told. It took 5 years to get around to editing this, but here is the story of this candy, and this wagon in Ron's own words.
It was a windy, hot day, near traffic so the audio is not perfect, but the story is.

Dude, one of the funnest things about living uptown in new orleans is those times when randomly driving down st charles you find him in his cart somewhere on the side of the road. I pull over almost every time. I literally keep 1 dollar bills in the car just for this.

Nice, we just got back from a vacation there. One of the days, we went to the zoo; everyone was excited to see the animals, but I was stoked for the Roman's cart! Wish we had time to meet the man himself, the candy was awesome, even brought a couple sticks back to missouri!
He is parked right across from my late grandmother's house in this video! I've never seen him that far from St. Charles/the zoo before, I think. If y'all ever get down to New Orleans, you absolutely have to try his candy
The way he pulls the taffy is mesmerizing
"Can't drive and make candy at the same time." This guy is awesome.
Yes! I was immediately captivated by the Roman Chewing Candy stall and I'm very glad to see it again!
As many times as I've been to New Orleans, I've never seen this. I'll definitely have to try to find it next time.
It's always good to see living breathing everyday history like this
I remember going to him as a kid in the Zoo in New Orleans. We would have field trips there for school, and he would have lines of kids just waiting for the taffy!
Love the history of this. Seeing old school traditions being kept alive is always interesting. Keep up the great work Greg!
I just watched part 1 yesterday and was wishing this would come out!!! Perfect timing!
Only five years but felt like an eternity. Glad to see it out after all this time!
Oh wow a flashback from 2016! What a Treat! (Pun not intended lol) I love that you dedicate so much time showing off the craft of candy making.
I just stopped by the shop for the first time yesterday and picked up a bunch of candies to try!
Hope he's still around and selling candy.

@@Jesse__H That's the only real classical chewing candy; anytime you see stick chewing candy it's always taffy. Similarly, classical candy had no advanced rubber for gums, but they did have gelatin; however those were gummies then, and now. Chewing candy has always meant Taffy.

That was fun. Thanks for finishing this.
I love the sound of those scissors cutting the taffy. Now that's ASMR 😂
That looks so tasty, if I ever get the chance to go to New Orleans I hope he's still in business.
$1 seems too cheap for that amount of factory produced candy, let alone for something handmade.
This video should have gone on for hours! Thanks :)

great video, great vendor... i was surprised that none of the customers said "please" when they ordered.
i just found your channel recently. one of the first videos i watched was the roman candy, being from new orleans, i loved the video. i instantly went looking for part two. so happy i subbed so i saw this as soon as posted. thanks for your great work
i ordered candy from Roman Chewing Candy because of this video. very excited to try.

I love how you focus on the slowly sagging candy while he talks. It's gonna hit the floor! ...nope.
5 freaking years of waiting 😆
I see their rum site is doing well and they have an Instagram for that, but I can't get the web page to load so hopefully it'll work later cuz I have the craving for this again
This is so cool! I grew up in the New Orleans area, but I haven’t lived there in year. My mom has such fond memories of eating these as a kid. They’re so good, but she swears they are the best fresh off the wagon.
Bucket list seller. As soon as I can leave this tiny island this is one place I want to go

Hey love your stuff man keep it up
I had the chance to visit New Orleans last week, sadly I couldn't find the Roman's Chewing Candy Cart, however I was still able to get the candy at Royal Praline Co in Royal street. Royal Praline has two locations, one on Royal and the other on Decatur street, both of which stocks Roman's Chewing Candy. I got all 3 flavors and tried each one individually at first, then tried them Neapolitan style, and I liked Vanilla the best, though Strawberry came close second. The Chocolate was good too, but when combined with all three flavors its an amazing experience. One thing I regret is not finding was their Candy Rum. I hear they also make candy rum in the same three flavors, but I couldn't find it at the Rouses I looked in, it was on my way back home, so I didn't have time to check any other grocers that is supposed to stock their rum.

Literally thinking about salt water taffy today and you go and upload this 😅
great vid thanks for sharing!
I have said many times that a true craftsman/expert/professional makes there skill look like there's nothing to it , but you'd be hard pressed to keep up. He's a great example he may not be able to tell you exact specs on the recipe but I bet he's consistent and if he says the pieces are 15" there spot on... In 5 min I'd be burned, covered in coloring and look like I generally lost a fight with the candy on the hook.😉 Him, Greg, and the folks at Hercules are all talented professionals in a world that rarely values them properly.
I see his website on the cart and I’ll be ordering some.
1:00 in and it’s extremely accurate

@LoftyPursuits
3 жыл бұрын
We keep the current estimated ship time on the front page of our website. It's not perfect but it's pretty accurate on the day that you ordered. If you ordered a 3 weeks ago I believe it said 10 to 17 days to ship. I'm sorry it's taking so long but when we get backed up we get backed up at his handmade candy. We try to give as much information about ship time as possible. This month we got four times the number of orders of last month and we're catching up as fast as we can and we're producing candy pasture than we ever have. Sadly we're still behind I can only hope our candy is good enough to be worth the wait. We make our candy within a week or two when it's shipped to make sure it's fresh and that means we can't keep a large inventory and stock at any given point quality is more important than speed we feel. Last month I turn around time was 24 hours.
