It's a bit sad when you think about it. I remember Bosnian bill once making a remark about lpls gorilla grip style of picking being very unusual but highly effective. He must have a really good feel for things to be able to exert such pressure without destroying tools and still being able to feel for counter rotation etc. I'm a hobbyist jeweller and restorer (focusing mainly on old tools) so I also know the struggle of riding that knife edge between just enough and too much force
@herseem
11 ай бұрын
I know that of which you speak. As someone who has been fixing things since I was very young, I understand the relationship between force and success or damage very well. I took my sons to an escape room and the one thing that prevented us getting further was a lock for which I was sure we had the right key, but I was certain that putting more force than I was prepared to put on it would have bent or broken the key. Sure enough, it was the 'correct' key, but the amount of force the operator showed us that was required to open the lock was probably why it was bent already.
@Fyrefrye

@@Lilith-Rose I don't remember the video, but there was a colab that LPL did a while back and the others involved tried to pick a lock or two. He told them he could tell they were struggling or doing something wrong by the color of their knuckles or something like that. It might look like he's using a ton of force, but his control and knowledge of what's going on inside those locks is *stunning*
@Lilith-Rose
11 ай бұрын
@@Fyrefrye yes that's actually something I pay attention to myself when watching him pick, your skin whites out under pressure because the blood that gives it a pinkish colour is squeezed out of the capillaries (there's good first aid technique for checking if blood flow is restricted to a limb or a patient has drastically lowered blood pressure which can indicate internal bleeding, called the capillary refill test, which works because of this phenomenon). The more force the larger the area of whiteness around the pressure point

Since in the real world most theft is done quickly to avoid being caught or even seen if possible, even a mediocre lock can be enough to convince them to move on to another target. The local signs now say "lock your doors AND hide your valuables" in public parking areas for that reason.
