Yes, that is deplorable. I’ve made a comment about this to the pastors of three different Catholic Churches. I was visiting my daughter in Northern California and every church I went to had the same thing. The tabernacles were all on the side. One of the priests I talked to was a visiting bishop. This is how he responded to my comment. He said, but during mass we bring Jesus on the table. And I said, this is His house bishop and He belongs in the center of His house at all times, meaning literally and symbolically. Before I left I told him, I’m sorry bishop but what you said is not convincing to me. And I started praying about it everyday. In a matter of 5-6 months when I went back to visit my daughter and I went to the same churches I was stunned to see the tabernacles of these churches were moved to the center.... 🤭🙏😋

Hymns during mass coincide with movement of multiple people. Processing, presentation of gifts, communion and recession. It's to help cover the distraction of the noise made by this shuffling around. As a music minister, I do respect the desire of the parishioners to pray after receiving the Holy Eucharist. More meditative hymns should be sung during this time. The purpose of the ministry is to enrich the mass not be a distraction. The Holy Bible does multiply reference God wanting us to worship Him in song but reverence in musical selections is important as well.

We got a new paster in my childhood church. The pastor he replaced was very old and everything you spoke about and more, went on during Mass. Either he didn't care or didn't have the energy. Being respectfully dressed was uppermost on his list. If you wore shorts and went up to communion, he'd tell you to sit down. On one occasion, a young guy had on jeans and a "do" rag on his head. When he walked up to receive communion, Father Nugent said, "Take that think off your head." He did.

I am a revert after 40 years away from the church. One of the things I couldn't understand in the other churches I attended was the lack of reverence for being in Communion with Jesus. After returning to my roots, I needed to learn about the Euchrist, and what I found has touched my soul at every Mass. I believe I feel when the Holy Spirit changes that host. Many times, it puts me in tears. At first, taking the Host ny tongue felt better, but I felt the need to show my reverence by keeling with or without a kneeler. I am an Eucharistic Minister, and I question if I should be administering this sacrament. I am in awe and truly believe in His presence. I wish we would kneel at the altar in our church, but I will do what I feel led to as long as I am physically abke. 🎉

I'm an introvert, but I appreciate that, properly understood, the liturgical sign is truly a good thing, one that I've come to appreciate and even look forward to at Mass. It is a sign of unity, Christ asking all to give and receive, reconcile and offer his perfect Peace before receiving his gift of himself. Additionally we pray the OUR Father. Christ asks the introvert to stretch himself this one tiny bit.

As an Anglican convert, I have always felt that the place where the Peace is nestled is a distraction. I would prefer for it to be taken out of the Mass completely, or in between the Liturgy of the Word and of the Eucharist around the offertory. Same thing for the announcements. There is hardly any time for thanksgiving and silent adoration of the True Presence before Joe walks into the Sanctuary and tells everyone about the pot luck.

Because as a musician, I do it to the glory of God and He’s the reason it sounds so good because he’s given me that talent anyway. It’s so uncomfortable. You can go up to a musician afterwards in private and tell him/her that their music helped you worship God better. That is always kind and loving and appreciated. To put it into perspective, If the music is world-class, but doesn’t help promote worship, then that defeats the whole purpose.

My sisters and I were baptized, made our first Confession ( Penance), our First Communion, and our Confirmation under Vatican 1. Our maternal grandfather was Lutheran when he married my very devout Catholic maternal grandmother . They had to get married in the rectory and he promised any children would be raised Roman Catholic. My grandfather did free plumbing as a master plumber for the church, the rectory, and the convent. He was generous with the priests and the nuns. He became a Catholic on their 25th Wedding Anniversary. My Roman Catholic mother also married a Protestant man whose family were very involved in their church. My father and my mother were married in the Catholic Church outside of the rail. My father had to promise to raise all of the children as Catholics. I remember watching the sorry amount entire families gave in the offering basket when I was very young. Each one of us children put more in collection as toddlers. My father impressed us how much we should be supporting our church since we were young, because he came from a Protestant Church. We went to Catechism every Friday afternoon of our entire childhood. Our parish's priests would drive buses across the road to our country elementary school to pick up the Catholic students for Catechism for the entire afternoon , broken up into ages groups, and we were prepared for making our sacraments. I used to read our huge Douay Rheims Bible cover to cover as a child. I actually went to both a Protestant Church and a non - denominational church for Bible studies , in order to learn the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. I go to a very traditional Roman Catholic Church for the Ordinariate Mass. The only thing that I believe the Roman Catholic Church lacks : they don't teach the entire Bible cover to cover. Why don't they don't offer Bible Study.?

Respectfully disagree with the statement that the reason we go to mass is to receive Jesus.(i.e. Eucharist). The reason we go to Mass is to worship God on high through the highest form available to human beings provided to us by Christ's Sacrifice. We enter into that sacrifice to worship Almighty God. Receiving the body, blood, soul and divinity of our Lord to be nourished is the second reason.(provided we are in a state of grace)

Growing up in the 70s, I became used to the traditions of kneeling at the Communion Rail, the Ringing of the Bells, both in the Bell Tower and during the Eucharistic Rite, being quiet prior to Mass starting, fasting 1 hour before Mass, going to Confession weekly, lighting REAL candles, dressing properly and respectfully (no jeans or gym shoes), waiting for the Priest and the Cross to leave at the end of Mass, before we left the pews, and all the other things you gentleman covered in this video. There is something to be said about tradition. There seemed to be more reverence for the Mass, and the fact that you are in God's House, back in the 70s. We have lost much of the traditions and reverence and it breaks my heart. Mass is just not the same.

I chose to join the Catholic Church when I was six. I got baptized and made my First Holy Communion the same weekend. It was joyous. We kneeled at the altar rail. It was all in Latin and the Nuns made sure we knew what was going on in the mass. Vatican II made a mess of things. It got worse and by 16 I left the church. I no longer felt I belonged. I've tried going back many times but I found communion in the hand so disrespectful. If I wanted to shake hands and hug everybody I would be a Baptist. Now at 70 I can't get to mass. Instead I have a lovely DVD of the Latin mass. I view that and pray, giving God my glory. What happened to all the traditions? Why were they tossed out with bath water? I miss covering the head in church, saying the rosary at the communion rail during the week, and lighting real candles.

Where in the Bible does it say you can't partake of communion unless you are baptized? Infant baptism is non Biblical ! Jesus was 30 years old upon baptism! Baptism is an act of obedience! It does NOT SAVE! BUT IT IS IMPORTANT!. I WAS BORN A CATHOLIC AND BAPTIZED AT 6 MONTHS! I became a Christian at 9 and was baptized upon understanding what baptism meant!! There is nothing in the Bible that prevents you from communion once you accept and ask Jesus into your heart! That is the ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN, NOT ALL THIS MAN MADE RITUALS!!

I prefer it my way because I have always had a problem with handling cash during mass. It reminds me of the moneychangers in the temple. The rest of it I sort of agree with but taking the Host on the tongue and sharing the chalice spreads disease, as does hand shaking, so deal with it. Lastly: when the consecrated hosts have been removed from the sepulcher (it’s not a tabernacle) for the mass, then genuflection and bowing is directed towards the altar, as we are venerating the body and blood of Christ, not the box it was stored in.

I started going to Mass again about a year ago after being away for decades. I showed up wearing a shirt, tie and a sport coat. I was a bit taken back by people showing up wearing flip-flops and shorts, men included. When I last attended Mass everyone dressed for it. I spoke with my friend about it later and she dismissed it, saying it was Florida and that was just the way things are down here. I still show up every week wearing my tie, even though there are only a couple gentlemen who wear suits and ties. I don't judge but it is a bit disheartening. I figured if Jesus took the time to invite me to His banquet the least I can do is dress for supper. Like the man here said, if all you have are jeans and tee shirts, okay, better to attend than stay home because of some dress code. But if you have the ability to buy a shirt and tie, why not wear it. It sets an example for the young people. That is the thing. A lot of the kids who attend Mass dress in their school attire, and they look better than a lot of the adults. Maybe I was just raised in a different time. When I was a kid, if a grown man showed up for Mass wearing sandals, shorts, and a tee shirt, he would have felt more than a few eyes wondering what his deal was. Call me a stick in the mud I guess. I'm easy to spot though. One of the ushers was telling another that I'm a regular at 11:30 Mass. She said I was easy to spot because I always sit near the front wearing my jacket and tie. I sit near the front because my eyes aren't what they used to be, but I dress appropriately because I was raised that way. I know a lot of the men in my parish were raised that way as well. I wish they would remember that.

I make it a point to dress up a bit for Mass, not to show off, but because I feel I should present myself in the best possible light before God. As one parishioner has pointed out, if you won't dress up for God, you won't dress up for anyone. That's a bit of a radical judgment, but I get her point. God loves us all, and He will love those who show up in jeans, T-shirts, flip-flops, etc., but I just feel, for myself, that I should give Him more. Also, I was raised in the 1950s, prior to Vatican II, and everyone dressed in their Sunday best for Mass, and I like to continue that tradition.

This was one of the best discussions of this ilk I’ve ever watched. I’m a “relaxed Catholic” but a lot of the things that were mentioned really rang true with me. If it has not been discussed already, I’d love to hear Father Pagano’s and the other two gentlemen’s thoughts about the Latin Mass and why it has become so verboten. I’m old enough to remember the Latin Mass from when I was a kid and I still prefer it. There were a few Catholic Churches here in NYC that had Latin Masses but sadly they have stopped. Why is Pope Francis so dead set against the Latin Mass? I used to attend one sometimes at St. Agnes on East 43rd Street and it was always packed - and I mean SRO. There’s obviously a preference for this type of Mass by some people and I don’t see the harm in it. For my money, it seems to be a more reverent Mass than the vernacular Masses now. Thoughts?

@@cherylrawlings8875 So, for the 1.2 billionth time, Catholics do not pray to anyone but God. Catholics believe that those who are already in Heaven can also converse directly to God. So just like many non-Catholics do here on Earth, we ask for our fellow believers to pray for us. We just believe that those in Heaven can also pray for us too. And who better than Jesus' own Mother, who he had a special relationship with. And we also believe in the Biblical concept of the Gebirah, the Queen Mother, a Jewish tradition that the mother of the King held a very special position in the court. And that his mother - the Queen Mother or Gebirah, still holds this position in the Eternal court of heaven. So, please STOP with the "Catholics" pray to Mary. Cause that's not what they do - intercession of Saints (those already in heaven) is just another way of asking people (dead people) to pray for you.

@@cherylrawlings8875 wrong dumb dumb. The Catholic Church put the Bible together so I think we know better. The book of Revelation shows the saints worshipping God, singing hymns, playing instruments, making requests to Christ to avenge their martyrdom, and offering prayers for the saints on earth (Rev. 4:10, 5:8, 6:9-11). In a dream, God commanded King Abimelech to ask Abraham to intercede for him: “For [Abraham] is a prophet and he will pray for you, so you shall live” (Gen. 20:7). When the Lord is angry with Job’s friends because they did not speak rightly about God, he tells them, “Let my servant Job pray for you because I will accept his [prayer], lest I make a terror on you” (Job 42:8). James says: “Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects” (James 5:16-17). Thus, according to Scripture, God wants us to pray for one another. This must mean that prayer for one another cannot detract from the role of Jesus Christ as our one mediator with God. Try to not be so stupid. It is annoying.

This is a special moment when God comes into my heart and soul. It is a private personal moment with God. And then it’s rush rush rush out.. sign of the cross and it’s over. Can we get five minutes to be alone with Our Lord before it’s over? My dad was always in the deepest prayer after communion. A beautiful memory. I love this time❤️

And Yes, I am a newly appointed Eucharistic Minister for my church and during our services there are no more than 3 Eucharistic Ministers to assist our priest during Communion. But I can remember a time when I was a small boy when there were no Eucharistic Ministers assisting the priest and he distributed communion alone with only the Alter Server's to assist him and with a much larger congregation to administer too....How times have changed.

Oh my goodness just last Sunday I made the firm decision that the next time a parent is allowing their child to fuss and cry through mass, I am going to take action. May I preface my comment by saying that when I see young families in mass, with a father or a mother out both, and small children, it fills my heart with joy and love and admiration. I always smile and send them Good vibes and try to make them feel welcome and wanted. It's really important that we make these young families feel supported in bringing their children up in the faith...If the child is laughing out loud once in awhile or gurgling or babbling happily, I literally feel like crying from Joy. This makes me so happy. There is a difference between crying fussing and an outburst. If the child is crying out once every 2 minutes for 20 seconds each time, that is crying! That is a steady, fairly constant distraction. When I hear a baby cry steadily for minutes and the parent won't leave I become really upset. For those of us with child abuse issues it is extremely triggering. the next time a parent is allowing their child to fuss and cry through the whole mass I am going to approach them and ask if I may assist them with the child in any way. If they say no,i will kindly, with all the love in my heart, firmly inform them of the crying room, its purpose and location. Do you know how embarrassing it is that my face is covered and wet with tears every time I receive communion because I've listened to babies crying through Mass? But guess what!? I get to offer it up as a sacrifice for the Lord and be with him on the cross and I love him so much my heart fills up with joy! Thank you!😮

So, he began his homily one Sunday, asking parishioners if they could "talk" for a moment. He began with this question: "How many of you here today have ever cheated on your spouse?" Of COURSE no hands were raised. He asked again, highlighting how in this particular church, everyone was considered "family". Still no hands were raised. He thought for a moment and offered THIS: "Those of you who have been unfaithful, may leave mass early this morning!" Needless to say, at the end of mass, no one moved! 😉

Kimberly Riddell Sweetheart, I have. You are quoting a Bible verse. And that is our standard of testing all doctrine and truth. So since there is just one church, one faith, one baptism. May want to get back to the OT and NT and the teachings of the apostles. The church -ekklesia- means the called out ones. Called out of darkness and into light. Called into salvation. The Jews weren’t saved just because they were “sons of Abraham”, they still had to accept Christ and get baptized. Neither is one a Christian simply because they claim to be. The church isn’t a structure. The church visible-is a Catholic idea. It’s the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us into which Jesus is building us into a temple of living stones and He is the chief cornerstone, Head of the Church, and High Priest in Heaven. And the baptism of the apostles. The Bible teaches a parent can bring the baby to the church to be dedicated to the Lord, like Mary and Joseph dedicated Jesus as a baby. But in order to be baptized, one needed to be hear the gospel, repent of sin, accept Christ as their own Savior, and be baptized. The word for baptism literally means to immerse. Why? Because we are baptized into His death and resurrected to new life. The water is a symbol of the grave. So no babies, no sprinkling.
