    Your humour, sometimes self-deprecating, sometimes sarcastic and surreal, just absolutely floors me, time and time again. I can't wait to play the Elvis megahit, 'Smoke on the Water' in a local kebab shop I'd never thought of Fur Elise in any different way. I would love a tutorial on that. Thank you for making this list and for making it so memorable with so much fun.

    You have created a very funny skit with the memes and comments between the songs. The little bits of songs really keeps the whole show flowing. This has been one of the most fun videos I have seen in a long time, regardless of the context. I was laughing the whole way through, like some Victor borge skit on the Johnny Carson show.

    Your jazzed up Fur Elise is amazing. Normally when people try this kind of things, I always think "I see what you're doing here, but if you're gonna play jazz, you might as well let go of the original piece completely because the rhythm is awkward and the melody keeps it very constrained". But here it's not, well done!

    Thank you. My Dad made his living playing in "saloons," as he called it. That was long ago -- he died almost 30 years ago. As a teenager I got to play guitar with him in those joints in Dubai -- I lie too. Was Dubai a place in the early 1970's? If so, I never heard of it. But, we did play all over New York and New Jersey, in some fancy clubs in Manhattan, summer nights on the Jersey Shore, one cold weekend at a place in the Poconos, where I first rode a snowmobile. Anyway, I didn't want to write about me. I wanted to thank you and to say that I enjoyed hearing your cocktail music. I'll be checking out your lessons, too. Nice job on that Elvis tune. 😊

    Some great suggestions there - quite a few overlap with mine. One I've found indispensable is Tea for Two. It's such a witty piece and I love improvising it into that teasy jazz-scherzo soundworld with lots of gaps, wrong notes and trills that get stuck. In an instant you can resolve your most delicate wee jest into a stomping big-band stride. It also invites madcap accelerandos - a truly great tune to play around with. (A new subscriber.)

    My son plays the Westin Valencia and works diligently to offer something new every week. It can be easy to forget that although guests are constantly changing, the wait staff is not, so he likes to keep things fresh with new material. He has also learned the international translations for many of the 'must know' tunes; for instance, do you know what they call 'Fur Elise' in Korea? My son had no idea when a sweet Korean couple requested, 'The Wedding Dream' but he took a wild stab with the Beethoven staple and sure enough, that was it!

    BTW, I love your playful approach. I always remind my son the task is to 'play' the piano, and not 'work' it. One tune he has particular fun with is, believe it or not, 'Chopsticks'. He sometimes begins with a bar of two fingers to lure them in, then flourishes into a terrific improvised jazz number.

  • @Zoco101
    @Zoco1018 ай бұрын

    I nearly got sacked for playing Girl From Ipanema with "too much rhythm". The restaurant manager asked me to play it and other tunes completely without any rhythm. Imagine that! It left me dazed, and almost unable to continue with the weekly gig. Finally, I found a compromise that worked, but I learned that just because they book you as a jazzy cocktail pianist doesn't mean they understand or value your music and its essential component - rhythm. I learned to play the rhythms more by innuendo than before, when my rhythms has been more comprehensive. The thing is that you don't need quite as much rhythm if you're playing solo or accompanying a singer - not like if it were a band.

    Ha "the latest hit by Christina Aguilera" - that statement alone says it has to say, since Christina herself fell out of fashion already! There are however some modern songs that I think you should consider putting in your repertoire as the clientele inevitably gets younger : - If you so much as play on repeat the opening riff from Still by Doctor Dre., all millenials will tip you immediately. Guaranteed. - Little Blue, by Jacob Collier (phenomenal player, if you want to do some extensions and inversions that are pretty mind-boggling; although the original isn't on piano there are several versions out there!) - The scientist by Coldplay, so simple, but the piano riff is just so recognizable! Just some suggestions to try if u want to freshen up eheh

    ich bin gerade über Deinen Kanal gestoßen und habe festgestellt, dass Du aus Berlin bist. Ich hoffe also, dass Du meinen Kommentar interpretieren kannst. Ich habe jetzt dieses Video gesehen und muss sagen: Respekt - aber ... ... es fehlt Dir das meiner Meinung nach wichtigste Musikstück. Als ich jung war und wir uns durch das Nachtleben von Wien bewegten, war unser Ende der Nachttour immer eine Bar, wo es noch einen Bar Pianisten gab. Und der spielte immer bis 00:00 Uhr, dann war seine Arbeit getan. Aber als letztes Stück spielte er immer "Last Date" von "Floyd Cramer" und ich habe lange gesucht, bis ich das Stück auf KZread fand, denn ich wußte weder Name der Stücks, noch den Interpreten. 40 Jahre später hab ich dann dieses "Last Date" aus Zufall gefunden und ich habe mit 64 Jahren aus dem Grund begonnen Klavier zu spielen. Ich werde kein professioneller Bar Pianist mehr, aber vielleicht kann ich mir in 8 - 10 Jahre doch ein gewisses Repertoire an Stücken aneignen und da muss dieses Stück "Last Date" dabei sein (sozusagen als Meisterstück für mich). Liebe Grüße aus Wien - Klaus

    Hi Christian. I am not a bar pianist but have played in public and on my small youtube channel, hence to say my repatoire is not as broad (or jazzy lol) as yours. My list includes classical versions of Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, The Cranberries and Van Halen, though I did manage a few from your list (Somewhere over the Rainbow, Yesterday and another few). I would put Will You Still Love me Tomorrow on the list (I know you have a great tutorial on that one 🙂), Send in the Clowns and even Danny Boy (for those crazy Irish lol) PS. I think songs should never sound the same as everybody plays them and should be demonstrated with the creativity from the player. Unfortunately there are too many plinky plonk pianists around today (maybe students of Simply Piano haha). Anyway thanks again and I hope you get a holiday soon 😘

    11:35 "the food chain of bar piano" (I see up above: the person is called: pianist - no egging, be at ease always, sorry for parenthesizing; sorry for find a lot of humor in the accompanying speech, which had escaped me so far mostly - I recommend reviewing everything, anytime, of this) ... the food chain made me giggle for the first time. BTW what's a "gig"? No big thing? Never let show how virtuous you are. Christian sure is among the best understating - or however the Americans would formulate to make a big compliment. Thank you for letting me be bubbly at your place, in advance!

    Definitly, you are the best piano bar player, few notes on left but difficult and Efficient chords on right to create a cool atmosphère. I like elise letter turned into jazz and summertime . Not too late for dubai ?

    I also would like a bluesy stridey fur Elisey Fuchsey version. And Lullaby of Birdland if you are allowed. I didn’t find that in your catalog.

    I got given €1s for playing _your_ blues on a play-me. I was riding trains home after a long work week in Hamburg. . Friday, Frankfurt 8pm. Missed my connection. I bought a coffee put it on top of the play-me and laid back. Suddenly I realised that people were putting coins in my Latte 🙄. I earned enough to buy a new latte before my next connection left.😁.

    It is funny how this guy can make ANYTHING sound so good. I mean i play yesterday with basicly the same notes and rythm but i cant get it to sound nearly as beatiful.

    When you audition for a hotel or restaurant, does the manager ask you, "Can you improvise over the dominant chord using the mixolydian scale?" Or does he ask, "Can you play Billy Joel?"
