15 Signs Your Dog Considers You Its Mother

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The bond between dogs and people is unlike anything else, especially once the animal learns to trust people. Sometimes though, dogs can take this special bond to a whole new level. Dogs can imprint on people--which means that they get extremely attached to their human.
There are tons of ways a dog can show their love, but there are a few specific behaviors do indicate imprinting.
In this video, we will talk about 15 signs that indicate your pup has developed that extra special bond with you.
You have a little four-legged shadow
Following you around the house is one of the most common signals that your dog has imprinted on you. Dogs have a tendency to stay close to the pack members they trust. If your dog follows you to the bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen, then you and your dog have developed a deep attachment. It shows how much your pet enjoys being in your presence. Your dog sees you as a valued member of its pack and wants to be close to you as much as possible.
On that note, keep in mind if your canine friend insists on maintaining a distance from you, then there's a good chance your pet feels uncomfortable around you, and you may want to look into figuring out why.
Preference for Your Company
If your dog shows a consistent preference for your company over others, it could be a sign of imprinting. They may ignore or show less interest in other family members, friends, or even strangers, focusing their attention primarily on you. Imprinted dogs find comfort, safety, and happiness in your presence, which leads them to prioritize your companionship above all else.
They follow your commands easier than someone else in the house
A well-trained dog listens to commands from most people, but if your dog has imprinted on you, they’ll listen to you more. High responsiveness is a positive sign that your dog has bonded with you deeply because they’re trying to please you.
It is important to remember that training a dog is not only about the dog itself but also about the bond shared between both the dog and the owner. If a dog doesn’t trust their owner, they are less likely to respond well to training.
They lean against you when they are in new environments
If your dog comes up to you and lean their body weight against you, or perhaps cuddle against your side, they are showing affection. For many dogs, the lean is like a full-body hug.
In some cases, dogs lean against you when they are in an unfamiliar environment. This means they are nervous. So they lean on you for security and backing.
Similarly, your dog may sit on your feet as a means of seeking protection when they are in an unfamiliar environment. They are looking at you to protect them because they feel safe with you. In other words, your dog considers you a reliable and protective figure in their life.
They mirror your behavior and mood
New studies have shown that when humans cry, their dogs also feel distress. Dogs who share a deep emotional bond with their humans often mirror their emotions and overall mood.
If you’re having a rough day, you will often find your canine companion coming up to you and nuzzling or trying to cuddle with you - it’s their way of showing empathy and comforting you. In some cases, dogs may even experience feelings of depression when their owners are going through a period of depression.
They snuggle with your belongings
You have probably noticed that your dog carries your laundry or shoes around the house.
Dogs have a highly developed sense of smell, and they associate your scent with comfort, safety, and the feeling of being close to you. When they steal your items or sleep on your belongings, such as your clothes, pillows, or blankets, it's their way of seeking comfort and being close to you. This behavior demonstrates their strong attachment to you and their longing to be near you. It's their way of expressing their love.
They glance at you frequently, especially in new environments
If your dog "checks in" on you during a walk, from another room, or in a new environment, it's a sign they love you and that they are making sure you're nearby. You may also notice they may randomly pop in to check on you, then go back to their own activities, like sleeping. This behavior demonstrates their deep attachment. It’s a sign that they have imprinted!
You’re their sleep buddy
Dogs are very concerned about their safety and won’t sleep where they aren’t sure about their surroundings. If your dog has imprinted on you, they may take their spot next to you and snuggle up close. This means they consider you part of their pack.
If your dog sleeps with you, it’s a sign of trust, love, and security; all signs that your dog has imprinted on you and considers you part of their family.

My partner, who was very close to his mother, actually SEEMED OK after her transition from this earthly realm and into the next, but....he wasn't the same, and I knew that he was very depressed, but he was trying to hide it. Well, I had always had dogs growing up, but he never did; he has asthma, BUT...one day, I thought to myself, a dog! He needs a dog, because he loves to nurture babies, so he'll bond with a short-haired dog. SO....I took in a 2 mos. old Pit Bull rescue puppy, and he was sort of pissed, at first....but NOW?! These two are INSEPARABLE! After I house trained this pup, which took all of 2-1/2 weeks because this breed of dog is VERY SMART, those two are in their own little world, myself be damned sometimes, lol. I don't care....I love having a dog in my life again! I wake up every morning with this pup crammed right up next to me, lengthwise, with his big, fat, wide head propped up on my pillow next to my head, snoring away. This dog loves everyone he meets, too! I believe that this dog has actually saved my partner's life from a downward spiral of sleeping pills and depression, absolutely!! Dogs enrich our lives!!❤❤

I would rather have a dog in my life than any human. Dogs are genuine, unconditional love. They don’t care what you live in what you drive or wear, they don’t care if you are rich or poor, what religion you are, or what color you are. They won’t talk behind your back or use you up and then look for another source of whatever. If you are looking for TRUE love get a dog. Give them their best life they deserve it

I'm so sorry and feel your pain. I lost my heart dog, a rescued Pomchi I named Rose. She traveled everywhere with me, to see family that live in another state or on fun spontaneous outings. She was the perfect partner when I traveled alone. She has been gone about 4 yrs now, and I still burst into tears if I see a photo or try and spread her ashes in her favorite place. I even wrote a song about her not long after I got her, and I want to sing it while spreading her ashes where she loved to run and occasionally chase a rabbit or squirrel. I often wondered what would happen if she actually caught up to one..she'd likely lick it to death 😊 I now have 2 pups. A Morkie with a wonky leg, and a Yorkiepoo named after a character played by Audrey Hepburn, Lula Mae, and I call her Lulu. I rescued her also, and like her "brother" her world revolves around not me, but my partner Dave. I told him I'm going to keep bringing rescues home until I find one that loves me more. I think he's spoiling them with Bully sticks 🤔💜 I'm truly sorry for your loss, but I believe people who love and are loved by a dog, will see that dog and all the others again, in Paradise. 💜

It’s been over 7 months now that he has passed and the hurt that I feel from losing him has never gone away. It never will. Me and his sister Cedes miss him terribly. I’m running a marathon in 2 1/2 weeks wearing the same shirt I had on holding him when he took his last breath. It was an honor to be part of his life and I told him how proud of him I was. I wrote 🐾 prints on my new running shoes. Run4C ❤️

This is a pure description of the bond between me and our family dog. We got him when he was 8 months old, and at the time he slept in a cage. The first night he cried the entire time, so I(I was 11 or something at the time) took my pillow and blanket and laid next to him, on the floor, for the entire night. I remember him putting his little snout in the corner closest to my face and the morning after he wouldn’t leave me alone. He is the best thing to ever happen to me. Now, 8 years later, he is still by my side through everything; He didn’t leave my bedside more then absolutely necessary when I had cancer, and had to be convinced to go out to pee and such. He is the kindest soul and a true blessing

I’m watching this with my wonderful 10 year old Yorkie by my side. He’s my first dog and has been my baby since I bought him home. He also absolutely adores my husband and our kids (our eldest was born when he was two). He’s been the absolute best big brother to them, when my babies were really little he would sit by my feet instead of next to me- like he knew I needed that extra bit of protection. He used to love putting his head on my belly and gazing into my eyes when I was pregnant- he did it before I knew with my second so I went and got a pregnancy test and it was positive!! I always tell people that he was the first to know. My kids love nothing more than cuddling up with him after school- he always knows who needs a bit of extra TLC. I’m hoping he’ll be by our side for many more years- he’s such a big part of our family and couldn’t be loved any more ❤❤❤.

Couple weeks ago, I had an emotional breakdown and he started licking my face as if he were trying to stop me from crying. Today, I was having really bad cramps. They say shibas are stand-offish but I've had 3 and this whole list fit 2 out of 3. The 3rd was more than half. My Koro always came and laid his head on my chest when I was sad, anxiety or sick. His sister hachiko lays asking my legs. The 2 of them slept on either side of me facing the door and protecting me through the night. I lost my Koro and my 3rd one, Kenji and was devistated but hachiko is still my best friend. I can't imagine not having had them in my world. If this is your first dog. Know that shibas are nothing like other dogs. Ask dogs are amazing but shibas are above and beyond.

@@rmojo1974 all three of my doggies have been “supervisors”, so to speak. It’s part of their spaniel nature; being hunting dogs they have a high prey drive, but also have a “follow the leader” mentality regarding their respective roles. It’s a good thing management is so cute. I would’ve complained about it otherwise. But seriously, since I don’t have children I love them like they are my kids. It’s not from lack of trying on my end; I have tried, numerous times, to have a child of my own. I’ve accepted it’s not in the cards for me right now, if ever, so I’m taking my maternal instincts and feelings out on my doggies. I never expected them to feel the same in turn. The fact that it is, is just a bonus.

A lot of these happen with my pug but for different reasons. he stays close to control me, sleeps and cuddles with me because he think it's his rightful spot, licks me when I'm sweaty because he loves salty things, runs ahead in case he spots something he wants (so he can sprint off before I notice it). He does get my mood though, but that also applies when I am annoyed and then he's annoyed and gives out to our other dog for no reason. Oh and he would NEVER look at me or pay attention to me in a new environment, he just gets too excited for adventure/new people/potential snacks. This also means his attention is never on me if there is anybody else that is giving him the time of day. But of course is the BEST BOY!

Growing up , we had dogs but they were only treated as guard work dogs…it was a different generation in the 70’s, they were even chained to their location around the house. So When I was small child ,one dog that was not chained was closer to me, I was upset at the dog that we took over who had puppies because she bit and killed her own. So I was angry at it that I was shooing her away and I noticed the other dog started getting upset as well and started barking and chasing her away from me. This dog sat next to me as I mourn for the puppies .That was the first time I know that a dog understand and can feel your emotions.I will never forget that moment. Now in my 50s, I consider them as my children and have bonded closely to one chihuahua mix ps we have more lol ..love him so much and dread the day I will loose. I am angry why dogs have a very short life span .But I believe they have souls and we will be reunited again

She saw me and Vary Slowly waged her tail and made her way towards me and sat on my foot. Looked up to me with those eyes, one being slightly malformed. I fell in love right there. You could tell she had been abused by previous owners. She was Soooo Shy. So I named her "Shyly"... Brought her home within the next couple of days, mandatory Sterilizations... She is the Biggest Baby and a Spoiled Brat after just one year. I Didn't have to train her to stay in the yard, she just does. She Lays next to me at night, loves being infront of me. Loves her Belly Rubs and Kisses. She Tells me Everyday how much she loves me. Every time she yawns, she makes noises while looking at me. She Loves to Snuggle at night for bed time. Always has to Touch me and places a paw like she is Hugging me. Loves to tilt her head back when laying infront to give me kisses. She is VARY Protective of me. She will Bark at the cars and people going up and down the road.. a Normal Sounding Bark.. Then when/if she sees the neighbor Right next to me, Oh She Gets VARY FIERCE! A "I will Kill You" Bark... ( no one on the road likes him or wants anything to do with him )... With her Messed up eye, when she looks at me, you can't tell if she is Surprised or being Stern with her normal eye at me. And She Loves being Tickled and back scratches. You can tell She is Laughing. When she Snuggles, she looks like a Fetus and I am Pregnant. As she sleeps, she takes up Half the bed for being 50pounds and Stretches completely out. Feet almost always next to my head and front pays down by my feet. I am 6'4.... Ah and then Farts alot!... So Yeah, She Picked Me and I Thank God for her Every Night and tell her I Love Her several times a Day, like I did my Fist one right before her.

Not bragging but I’m a dog magnet:) all the dogs I’ve ever had treat me this way. My daughter’s family dog (yellow lab) won’t leave my side when I visit weekly. My oldest son has 2 huskies and a Maltese when I’m at the house outside one husky sitting by my side, one under my chair and the little one on my lap:) my other son has two huskies and they won’t leave me alone. My current husky follows me all the time, lays by my chair, sits on my feet, howls when I leave, howls when I come home, and leans so hard on me while petting her that if I move away fast she almost falls on her side! I’m blessed! Dogs are great!

My cat does most of those things. She's totally devoted to me, and such a needy little thing like she never got the memo that cats are supposed to be independent and aloof.

Our trainer gave strict instruction on this! My boy listens to me more than hubby bc of her instruction. Which is a good thing since I’m training him to be my service dog. Love my Lab boy🐕‍🦺🐾🐾

My cocker does something like herding. She gets in front of me and keeps looking back to make sure I am following her. Sometimes she stops and I have to walk around her. She seems to think I need her guidance. Weird.
