15 Most POWERFUL Dams on Earth - HIGH PRESSURE

Ойын-сауық

With increasing power demands worldwide, hydroelectric energy has been a popular alternative, in the past century, to traditional fossil fuel based options. As technology continually improves, the efficiency of this means of electricity generation is almost unbelievable… but the infrastructure and alteration of the landscape to make this possible is equally as drastic. Featuring some of the largest structures ever built by anyone, these are the 15 of the world’s most powerful dams.

in 2012 at the Grand Coulee Dam, I delivered tanker truck loads of oil for the new transformers being installed at the Powerhouse. The oil had to be slowly pumped out of the tanker and thru a special process before going into the transformers and it took about 10 hours. While waiting I was given an unescorted access to Powerhouse which was 5 or 6 floors. It was very interesting to wander around this hugh building with massive equipment.

DAM !!! This is incredible ! Great compilation ! .. I have a question about the term "megawatt" .. When the number is given .. what time frame is that ? As in 5,000 megawatts per ? hour? day? minute? ..? Constant , sustained at all times? Very curious and not afraid to admit my ignorance about this..

It is istanteneus max power, therefore you dont need time. Energy is measured with time (e.g. 1 GWh). Power is measured in Watt (e.g. 1 GW)

If you search on youtube videos about the construction of Itaipu Dam (between Brazil and Paraguai), you'll be 😵😯😲 It was and still it's one of the largest projects ever built on Earth. The second biggest in America continent, just behind the Canal in Panama.

OK.... In the first 10 second is says "Nasa calculates the force of this dam slows the rotation of the earth by .6 micro seconds per year".... How? Like isn't that like standing on a skateboard with a leafblower into an umbrella expecting to accelerate forward?

The dam is holding a large quantity of water at a higher level than it would naturally be at. This is making the Earth's moment of inertia slightly higher, like a dancer moving his or her arms outward while pirouetting.
