    These ARE incredibly beautiful stones, but the second most important stone ever found and displayed is the 2.3 carat blue sapphire I gave my wife on our tenth anniversary. And the most important gem ever found? When I found my wife, I knew an important gem when I saw her.

    I facet a variety of gemstones, never held an interest in diamonds. I prefer stones that have " personality" and "speak" to me when I make a design (I generally custom design for most stones) and cut them. A diamonds main value is from marketing, which sadly this has cause many misconceptions. On the brighter side many are starting to get engagement rings with colors any gems that relate to them.

  • @vitos8594

    @vitos8594

    Жыл бұрын

    @@moiramcfarlane706 if comparing a diamond vs white sapphire if not togetherin hand, the quickest tell is a white sapphire will have a "silvery" brightness to it. If together you will see the diamond as much "brighter" this is due to the reflexive index, basically how much light is reflected back. While these numbers may be a bit off, being from memory. A diamond has a RI of 2.2, where sapphire is RI of 1.6. Next you'll notice what is referred often as "fire" which gives a bit of a spark of multiple colors, this is dispersion, and best way to explain it. Remember the prisms from school light goes in, rainbow comes out... same thing. Again this is greater with diamond (again off top of my head) being 0.4 with sapphire being 0.16. With colored there the same in this response, but have to take color in account. First with color, a sapphire will always have a more vivid color. Only exception is if the diamond is treated and not natural. Next sapphire always have two (sometimes more) colors. This can be hard to tell (especially when heated, most are to remove silk (milky color)) and often only seen by looking at complete and unnatural angle with light behing or at about 45°. When we facet general rule of thumb is to hide this so we lay it out to hide it, but more recently more common to allow it. These being your "mermaid" and "parti" colors. Me personally, I like both, but found many designs beautiful with multiple colors at various angles. While beautiful, the change in color at different angles catches the eye of others. There are a few other ways to tell the difference, but these are the easiest without tools. I can with ease and with confidence tell you which is which with the basic tools I have. The common myths of holding underwater, scratches / cutting glass and all that are not gonna help. With regards to scratches and cuts glass... I use a pocket knife to mark 90+% of the stones I facet when marking them. Others use a metal (often an aluminum) pencil, but I prefer a small pocket knife because it's a sharper (no pun intended) line. Now in its natural state you got two different factors... gemmy and not gemmy. 99.99999999% is not gemmy. I would put money on it you have kicked, stepped and tossed away more diamond and sapphire than you seen in all jewelry stores you have visited. Your not gemmy are often much larger, easily finding pieces the size of nickels. They look like common gravel, except sapphire and ruby have a more distinct color... sometimes... They have a few "flashes" often where breaks and cracks are, but basically not much out of the ordinary. I showed my dad recently some much larger diamonds found in this local area.... he couldn't believe it. Said he is sure he has tossed a few in the river while fishing and just messed with in general but never kept. Gemmy (even super low quality) on the other hand often flashes enough to catch your eye, even while standing. Most often just thought as "dirty glass" and very small. Generally you will find outside of mines about the size of "BB's" often smaller. A find the size of a "pea" is a big deal, worth looking greater in the area... if more or larger are found there, recommend staking a claim if possible and dig away. Run water heavy over it and sort seprate.... I hope this helps, and sorry for the delay. Just saw you replied in my email as clearing it out.

    The largest, most expensive diamond in the world is the Cullinan I. It's 530-carat! It's worth more than this entire list, many times over. It's part of the British Crown Jewels, so its province makes it even more valuable. It's set in the Royal Sceptre. The second largest and most valuable is the 317-carat, the Cullinan II it's set in the Imperial State Crown. The 45-carat Hope diamond, is not the most valuable jewel in the world, it's not even close.

    This is a list of the most “expensive” jewels in the world. Not the most valuable. Several jewels are priceless such as some of the Crown Jewels of the UK.

    This is sort of irrelevant but I’m in a small town in Tennessee, how do I go about finding someone who can look at stones and such for me? I’ve got something but I have no idea what it is lol maybe worthless, I just want to put the curiosity to end lol

    Most better jewelers can identify gems for you and often have a device that can assess components and verity the stone.

    I don’t know if your info is accurate, but all the time you are talking about one stone or the other and showing two or three photos of obviously different gems. It doesn’t look very serious.

    Clarification..COLORED diamonds are expensive. However other gems are far more valuable due to their rarity. Diamonds are only "valuable " because of marketing

    Because of how naturally orangish-yellow that man-made Diamonds are, from Nitrogen contamination, I would be highly suspicious of any orange diamond put up for sale.

    It's amazing how they're stealing all these diamonds from Africa and not giving these people any of the prophets made. This world is wicked and that's where the terminology comes from blood diamonds

    What's crazy is that diamonds are as rare as courts so there's no reason for it the cost this much the reason they do is because we mine them and hide them away only letting a little out at a time so the price stays high ☺️ that's why half of these come out of no where trust fund baby's need there trust fund 😂

    There is no such thing called a "coloured diamond"; genuine diamonds are crystal clear and sapphires are always blue in colour. The so-called diamonds shown in this video are synthetic and artificially coloured; and then sneaked on to the market with no history behind them because they are fake!
