I tipped a canoe in a swift river at 13 yrs old, but my dad wasn’t even pissed that everything was lost. He was so grateful when he saw me and our Mexican exchange student who also served as the second mate. We could’ve easily been swept away and drowned. At least we didn’t name her Excellent and run up on the pier and destroy a crane😎

EDIT: I posted at first only after just seeing the first very large crane accident... Then when continuing to watch, I see which crane you are referring to. Ooops ! My bad ! Sorry! 🤦 Nobody was running towards the crane operator - they were all just running the hell outta there!!! They're trying to get as far away from mayhem as fast as they possibly can 🤣

In truth, the only thing that matters is that no lives are lost and that physical injuries are completely recoverable, everything else is a matter for accident investigators, insurance companies, owners and lawyers! Despite phenomenal advances in technology, the majority of incidents are caused by the very people entrusted with the safety of the vessel. These seemingly inexplicable incidents occur with a depressing frequency and it is as though professionalism, good observation and sound judgment have takn time off!

What strikes me is the superficial approach to environmental disasters and how little people learn from them. It is evident that we need to change the way of doing things. We need radical actions and changes against these disasters. The people in these accidents all made it out alive and what about the environmental and ecological impact they had? What about the horrible landscapes because of unnecessary activities. To understand the meaning of "necessity" we have to have the ecological overview of impact and actual needs (not "wants"). Otherwise it's just recklessness. Way too often in our system people are trained to put "environment" as last concern, or some "negative externality" of secondary importance. We need "wisdom" to be again the way forward. Not reckless "progress".

Early 20th Century battleships still had a ramming bow built onto them, exactly for this chance that they'd ram enemy ships. But of course they lacked the giant sail structures for bandana'd crewmen with eye patches and cutlasses could swing aboard.

Sigh.... 1. 5:46 - Cables under tension don't collapse; they snap. 2. 7:07 - The guy who jumped from the crane may have driven it there, but he wasn't driving it when this happened. He was the crane *operator*, not driver. 3. 7:16 - He broke his leg, but needed only a "quick visit" to the hospital? This guy's doctor must be the fastest surgeon in the world if he can get this guy into the operating room, cut open his leg, set the bone, sew him up, and put a cast on it, all within a "quick visit". 4. 7:38, 7:49, et al - Shung-hi? Is that really how to pronounce it? 5. 8:45 - The ship full of sand didn't crash into land; it crashed into a *pier*. 6. 9:18 - How can a crane fall into a *river* and then sink in a *bay* if it sank at the same spot where it fell? A body of water cannot be both a river and a bay. Pick one and stick with it. Better yet, pick the *correct* one and stick with it. 7. 9:23 - Do you expect us to believe that the reason this ship's crash was investigated was that the video of the crash had gone viral? As if authorities wouldn't care why the ship crashed and the dock was destroyed and the crane was destroyed if it hadn't been caught on tape? 8. 10:14 - "Cruise ship"? With enough seating for maybe a dozen people? Try "small boat". 9. 1:10 - You mean the guy with the camera was thinking, "If those ships were unoccupied, I wouldn't bother pulling out my camera to film them crash into the bridge; but since I think there are people on them, I will trouble myself to go ahead and film it"? Is that really what you are trying to make us believe? Are you somehow trying to drive up your rankings by intentionally using incorrect terminology so that people like me will leave comments, and therefore fool KZread's algorithm into thinking you are getting meaningful engagement from the public? If so, it is backfiring with people like me, because it is too infuriating to endure any more of your scripts, so I told KZread's algorithm to not recommend your channel anymore. But first, I must correct myself. Earlier I said you were being careless with terminology. I amend that to say you are also playing fast and loose with your stories, to the point that it stretches your credibility to the breaking point (snap!), causing it to fall into the river where it sinks in the bay. You might want to investigate the cause of that mishap.
