15 inch corn

just a fun experiment to see what happens. after seed cost the 15 inch had an 18 advantage. will try it again next year.

Been doing 15" corn for 6 years , I notice the big difference on marginal land, hybrid selection is critical. Hybrid designed for 30" rows sometimes do not do as well in 15" rows. Corn with Upright leaves are usually best for 15" rows. Don't bump the population a ton, about 15% to 20% max. If you really want to push yield, bump your fertilizer the same. At least the P and K . Every year is different but I have had success. Still learning.

Really cool experiment ! I think farmers need to experiment like this on all kinds of different stuff .

I think after those results it would be worth doing ten acres like that next year. One thing I foresee is mould being a larger issue but if your already spraying for it then I think it would be fine. The yield with those numbers would out wigh the drying as long as it doesn't go grade 5. Good job

So if I’m watching this correctly the 30” dried down way more. That might be worth taking in to consideration. It’ll get you out there to harvest sooner, save you some propane, and maybe it won’t take on as much weather damage when it’s really ready to harvest? if I remember right there was 5 points difference in the moisture. That might get you out in the field a week earlier?

As far as storm damage or in General? For storm damage most of the wind came out of the northwest these rows for east and west. For General whether I wonder if the spacing more of a grid pattern helps each plant get a little more sunlight through different times of the day? Little more canopies of the ground for Less evaporation and water loss?

Thanks Jon, from what I've read ( university studies) show narrow rows to yield better north of I-80 , but I've never read anything stating why ?

@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 as you can tell, I've finally carved out time to watch some of your videos. I'm sure you can tell when I've grabbed some time... your old videos get a few more views and likes and then you start getting comments on 3 year old videos...🤡 I still really appreciate them, Jon. Someday I'll work through the whole catalog then be able to comment on current videos.
