They actually fixed it though, by making Struggle deal fixed recoil (always a quarter of the user’s max HP) They also made it so that Shadow Tag fails to work if there’s another Shadow Tag user on the field

This isn't correct. Wobbufet was banned from Smogon Singles because it's just insanely hard to deal with in Gen 4. Shadow Tag is an inherently broken ability. It was banned quickly because people had already worked this out from gen 3. Even in Gen 9 shadow tag is still banned in OU. It's less problematic in Ubers because most mons have the power to not actually care about Wobbufet. The actual clause that Wobbufet's struggle softlock caused was in gen 3 ubers and gen 3 VGC. In both formats Wobbufet is/was banned from using leftovers.

I much prefer his softlocks because he has transitioned to do more stuff that is TECHNICALLY not a softlock, but the amount of time it would take to escape the situation is so stupid that you're better off just resetting the game anyway. I would say it is worse than being softlocked because it gives people false hope of a way to salvage the save file. Not to mention the scenarios are so complicated that nobody would do them by accident, meaning you would only do this to mess with a friend

Don't forget the infamous Foppa softlock where you trade a finneon for a German Magikarp in the water route near the Survival Area. If you only have Finneon with surf, no rods, no pokeballs and saved, you are only left with a low level magikarp with no way to evolve it since you can't fish up pokemon

Funny how I discovered the shiny softlock in gen 4 when using the cute charm glitch and I did not know about it till it happened. It was amusing to say the least.

One thing to note about the Lorelei softlock is that you can escape to the Center if you Gen 1 miss (1/256 chance on "100% accurate moves", due to how the game checks accuracy) all 20 of Rage's PP. Pikasprey touches on this in his video, so I figured I'd bring it up here.

You could softlock yourself in HGSS if you used a cheat code to get all tms and hms. The moment you progressed in the story and an npc had to give you a tm you couldn't take it because you already had it. It would send the npc in a tailspin and you'd be trapped forever

I actually had the snowball one happen to me. Luckily i knew of its existance and saved before i entered the gym

I think for the bdsp stunky soft lock you have to go to the grand underground(a necessary item to progress up to that point) and white out. You should return to the last pokecenter.

10:05 So this Softlock basically is: An adult man is holding a kid in a corner, but than, warping through time and space, another kid which is borderline the same person appears to save them. 11:00 I wonder if that ever happened to someone trying out a Professor Oak Challenge. That would be extremely funny. You do everything you can to make sure to help Samuel with achieving his dream and he just ignores you.

There's one in Hoenn (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) you didn't mention. Beat Norman but before talking to Wally's dad to get HM03 Surf, use Teleport (Abra/Kadabra) to return to Dewford. As the Captain is no longer available, you will be stuck on Dewford and unable to progress, this soft locking the game.

There was a softlock in an update of Pokemon legends arceus. You could catch cresselia before the encounter cutscene, but then the story was waiting for you to catch the Pokemon you already caught and wouldn't progress the story. Happened to me. Took a few weeks for the next update to patch it.

There is also a burglar in Pokémon Mansion in gen 1 that, when you engage the fight on a certain tile, he will block the way a table and a wall. If you safe, he will be be blocking the path untill you get out of the building, which is very problematic if you don't have an escape rope or dig, both being very realistic in a gen 1 game. Your only option is to faint yourself against wild Pokémon, which can take an enormous amount of time depending on your team. While your not stuck forever, it is very easy to accomplish, even by accident and I bet thousands of people have gotten stuck that way in the past.

I know it happened in Twitch Plays Pokémon.... It was hysterical.

I had two shiny Pokémon at the same time in double battle before. Wasn’t the same species, but one used explosion and took both out before I could catch it. It’s not a soft lock, but still a pain. In legends Arceus I was trying to catch a Pokémon that’s in the water, from the bank. Ended up being knocked in by a beautifly…and warped out just to be on the Pokémon, unable to move, and knocked into the water over and over till I whited out.

For legends Arceus you could've saved the game before trying to capture it. You wouldn't have lost the shiny.

12. There are some exceptions to bag space limits in PoGo so there might be a workaround. Also, they have raised the max bag space several times so eventually they would probably do it again unlocking you.

As a hardcore pokemon go player I can confirm incubators do not take up bag space so there is no "Max storage" for them there might be a cap of 999 incubators (unconfrimed) but if so I assume at that point you will probably be prevented from bying more or there might just be not limit

You can recieve items beyond bag capacity from Raids, but only for the last year or so.

Loved this, and as someone who's been a far for yrs now I love how your editing style is becoming!

Awesome video as always!!😍 I guess 10:55 won’t work because you don’t Store eggs in your item bag. They directly go into your Egg-storage in your Pokémon bag.

The soft lock you mentioned in pokemon go can be broken with gifts, you can open them and get an egg even if your inventory is full

Fix to the pogo solf lock would prob be battling team rocket leaders to get a 12 Km egg from that. Or wait until the devs increase the item bag space

The RB Pokedex Softlock isn't Japanese Exclusive. I've had it occur on English during my Randomiser Speedrun Challenges. The BDSP softlock for the Snowballs was patched in 1.1 along with the ability to skip the Gym Puzzle due to the diagonal movement.

Trades can happen at any time in BDSP so trading for a mon that can transport solves the softlock.

15:55 you can escape this by loading up a "backup save." When the title screen appears, hold up (d-pad), B, and X. this brings up a menu that will a let you start on the save file BEFORE your current save file. example, if my save file put me in front of a building, and i released my shiny suicune by accident, and i walked into a building (prompting an autosave), i could get the suicune back by using the button input combination that i mentioned.

Regarding the second BDSP scenario, you can use Pokémon Home to get a teleport mon.

Nice compilation, i'd like to complete one thing, the "softlocks" After Pokémon Let's go is impossible because if you launch the Backup Save ( Up X and B) it loads the last warp you take, so in Snowpoint you are where the door is, and in Veilstone you are where you were before (Last Gate/gym/whatever)

My favorite softlock is to become a door in Pallet Town. :D The one you already covered in your previous softlock video.

Yeah, the Pokémon Go one would be able to be gotten out of exactly as you hinted at. Even if you have a full bag, you can still spin a gym for you daily free raid pass and it will work. On my one account, I was about 400 items over bag capacity because all I used that account for was raids. And both raid rewards and spinning for the daily free raid pass ignore the inventory space. That said, I am out of eggs on that account most of the time. With only one possible PokéStop spin per day, it isn't guaranteed you'll get an egg. And it would definitely be annoying to try to grind through those incubators to a point where you could play the game "normally" again.

I had one of the weirdest softlocks ever. My friend had a Japanese copy of yellow back in 1998. Just for kicks, we tried trading, and strangely it worked, but the route 1 Pidgey he sent me transfered over as a glitched name Gastly. I got to Lavender Town, but every time I left the town it would start a "wild Pokémon" battle, but it was a battle with Blue. Whether winning or losing, the game would just softlock after with a long continuous tone. I had to send my game to Nintendo. They sent me a brand new copy, and had to start all over.

Actually the Go softlock is no longer possible. This is because A) You can always receive items regardless of if your bag space is full if you are spinning a gym for a free raid pass. B) Now that gifts can be opened for stardust, adding a friend and opening a gift can still give the player an egg regardless of if their bag or Pokémon storage is full.

I did once before I learned how useless it was. When I was younger, I thought I could send it to some npc for a reward like healing items. Then I learned it was for friends only and was like "wasted my money"

In POGO you still get items for raids with a full bag and you can Get 7k eggs from gifts since they made it that you can open gifts for no items I think that works

in pokemon go, you can spin the gym disk with a full inventory if you don't have the daily raid pass already to get a daily raid pass so you can still get an egg there. or you can open gifts for eggs now that you can open gifts with full inventory.

You'd still be able to get out of the PoGo incubator softlock by obtaining Adventure Sync eggs by walking 25km or 50km in a week. You can then incubate those eggs to drop the item count again.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can get 12km eggs by defeating team go rocket's leaders, since the eggs themselves are not placed in your bag but in your pokémon storage, kinda..

some notable soft locks that i noticed that weren’t there is that in red/blue if you have no money for the safari zone you can’t get surf. on top of that if you’re in a spot that requires surf to get to a and you get rid of the pokémon leaving you with no surf or fly you get locked.

OMG I have one of those cursed white two copies, I remember having that glitch happened to me and I was so confused why the zoroark wasn't moving. I just kept going on about my business never getting two N's castle in that save file. I was a young kid when it happened, and didn't exactly have the internet to tell me what the problem was.

I heard about the diamond and pearl surf glitch back when the games first came to the US. I even tried it on my own copy when I got to the league. Was very disappointed to see it didn't work 🤣🤣

Its interesting in Gen III you can make wobbuffet battles endless but it has been changed in a few ways to make this not possible anymore. In Gen IV Leftovers and Struggle were changed as well as Shadow Tag users being immune to other Shadow Tag Pokemon. They also made it so Ghost types are immune to it in Generation VI. Definitely a good changes

I think the closest thing to a soft lock I've ever experienced happened a few weeks ago while I was playing Pokemon Violet. I was trying to auto battle a Vaporeon in area zero. It was so determined to escape that it jumped off a waterfall. I fell after it and got trapped between a rock and a hard to while breaking my own limbs. I got out though.

i remember i got bug/softlock like the fist one in sabrina using charizard rage, they flash you until you enter in a full miss but keeps flashing forever at pokemon red

I had one of those cursed white 2 cartridges and had to restart the whole game it sucked. So yeah, I got unlucky with one of those cartridges. Now I had no idea. It was a very rare issue in the English version back then.

#12 If you got no free pass as long as you don't go for a raid active gym, you can spin it, get a free pass and items despite space. This was added to encourage raids, but becomes a bit of an oversight but number of items depends on your level on said gym and if it's your team's. A low level gym doesn't give many items and can still leave you unable to catch much or anything. You'd have to use up an incubator if you ain't lucky.

Oh my GOD that's what happened? I had a double shiny golbat when I was a kid in diamond version. I dropped to ds and I thought that it just froze from me dropping it, but NOPE lol

Dunno if anyone else knew but in gen 5 (atleast the first 2 games) you could soft lock in double battles by either getting both your pokemon koed in the same turn or by not having enough pokemon. Can't remember exactly. But it happened to me a ton when I was younger

I think for the incubator one if you were to fight a team rocket leader you could get an egg from them and exhaust the incubators

Guardian tales is an amazing game I have played that game for over 3 years on my phone the references are crazy the story is unmatched the story of that game is so good and now I am waiting for world 16

5:10 if you don't have a daily raid pass you can spin for eggs on gyms only

I saw this a couple days ago and didn't think its something important but it happened to me yesterday and today in Pokemon emerald and i found this video again

15:00 it is in fact possible to get items from raid battles despite full inventory. But it will not give you any balls. The weekly rewards on the other hand will give you balls without spinning stops, so that you would be soft locked for a week max. Also it is possible to get rid of items by throwing them away. And I am not even sure if eggs contrivute to the bag space, I think they contribute to the Pikemon space instead. So this is not a soft lock at all.

One softlock, that I couldn't find to be documented anywhere on the web is in Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I managed to somehow get myself stuck with 15 badges and never was able to get the 16th badge. I don't know exactly how I managed to get the guy in front of the 16th Gym to never move, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's because I did the 7th badge (the one one Cinnabar Island) first and then completed the other 6 Kanto badges. Yes, I know, it's not a true soft-lock, as I was still able to do everything else in the game, but I technically wasn't able to complete it. Had to reset my entire save file, but in a second playthough I did all the badges in order and didn't encounter that bug, soo.... yeah...

Huh, neat, I think I have one of those cursed White 2 carts, cos I had this bug happen to me! Luckily it was just a nuzlocke run

I did the ice gym softlock I was so mad I had to start over to my last save point meaning I have to start over the gym again

In Number 1, the Double Shiny softlock, you mentioned that a Shiny Charm increases your odds of getting this softlock. That isn't possible. The Shiny Charm didn't exist until Black 2 and White 2. Even then, you need a complete National Pokédex and be in the post-game to even obtain it.

i love the one in sinnoh where the guy on the island on route 226, who wants to trade his magikarp for your finneon. if you arrive to that island with only finneon on your party, as your surfer (or no pokemon that can learn surf/fly/teleport), no fishing rod and no rare candies, and you trade the finneon, thats it. you're stuck on the island since the karp cant learn surf, cant lv up with rare candies or fish to encounter something you can catch that gets surf, or battle to evolve the karp XD

I actually got #13 during my first playthrough of the game, i freaked out at first but luckily i just got fly so i was able to get out
