To feed your hunger i'll give you an alternative point of view to what a break is :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/en132qiMos3gfpM.html Im not sure if break in the rock world means the same thing. I think a drum solo is when the other band members go to the bathroom. A break is a part of a song when the rest of the band lets the drummer take the spot light. A drum fill is something leading to next verse, chorus etc. These are just my interpretations though!
As a drummer I’m triggered, loudwire clearly doesn’t know the difference between drum breaks and drum solos

Blast beat @ 0:49 I want Samus to know this.
There is a difference between a drum solo and a drum break. A drum break is a short part of a song where the drum plays instead of the other instruments. A drum SOLO is when the drummer goes to town in a concert with a focus on them over the other parts of the music, such as vocals and other instruments. A solo can take the place of a break in a concert or live performance; however, they are not the same thing. For example, what Tommy Lee from Mötley Crüe does on his rollercoaster in concerts is a solo. It is not a break. A break would be if in a Mötley Crüe song, Vince paused singing for a moment and Tommy played a few beats before Vince picked back up. Tommy is excellent at both, but THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
I agree with Rush but both YYZ and La Villa Strangiato have better drum breaks.

There's an old story about how, in one of the later Black Sabbath reunions, when it became clear that Bill Ward wasn't going to be able to play, someone suggested they get Ginger Baker to sit behind the kit. Tony reportedly replied, "I think we're screwed up enough." But this video makes me wish they had, because Ginger Baker was amazing.
