Super David :D Maintenant tu sais!
I definitely said most (if not all) of these, but I’m pleased to say that I only forget and say one or two now. The phase “Je suis excité(e)” has been discussed recently on a couple of learning sources I’ve noticed. One said that it is something that is being slowly accepted into the french way of speaking!! I hope not. I am SO glad you said that you are not going to say the wrong way just in case we remember them. So many French teachers do that and it is wrong for that exact reason, so thank you. For the sentence “Je regardais la télévision quand le téléphone sonnait”, can you use the “gerondif” tense on sonner? Mille mercis Dylane

That's a great question Martin! Yes, some people use it, but most of the time, they are people living in English-speaking countries. If you say that in France, it won't be a good look, especially if the person doesn't speak English :) For the sentence “Je regardais la télévision quand le téléphone sonnait”, can you use the “gerondif” tense on sonner? Not in this case since the subject doesn't perform both actions. But you can say: je regardais la télévision en mangeant quand le téléphone a sonné :)

@@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane Ahhh superb! Thank you for taking the time to answer that made sense.
Salute madam Dylane, I like the way you teach us french. I used to study french. And I was taught " imparfait " as " used to" mean a habit that what we usually do it, but now we no longer do it." Etre en train de " present or past continuous tense. For example; j'etais en train d'ecrire ma these quando Le trembliement de terre a frappe. Because the action was on progress when the earthquake happened. If use imparfait, for example Je jouais Le football. Maintenance, Je ne joue pas. My question is when you make two sentences, why don't you use past continuous and simple past rather than imparfait and simple past ? Sorry I didn't use french keyboard, I couldn't write the french word correctly. I think you will understand it Thank you very much

A good way to know how to remember when to use “être” in the past is 1. When there is movement, and 2. A change of state(ex. Wake up, be born, stand, sit, all are changes of state which require être in past. Remember 1 and 2, and you have the formula of when to use être in passé composé

I subscribed to a regular paid online French lesson. Later on , I stumbled on a free one to which I adhered. Recently your clips attracted my attention. Regarding common mistakes.. Once I read “attendre” I thought of “to wait” That’s what I learned in both programs and that’s the google translation too. I wonder if yours is for higher levels Thanks .

@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
Жыл бұрын
C'est vrai ! Mais tu sais, même moi je fais encore des erreurs en anglais après 8 ans. Et parfois je pense à quelque chose mais mon cerveau décide de dire autre chose :/
For "J'ai retrouvé mes beaux-parents au centre commercial," a better English translation would be, "I met UP WITH my in-laws at the mall." That would clearly distinguish between meeting for the first time and having an appointment with them.
