Awesome live album list. Live After Death is a classic. Was so glad I was able to find a good vinyl copy of it. I have never seen AC/DC Live on vinyl before. Great find !! I have to look for that Whitesnake live album. I tried to see them in concert in 1990 and those bastards cancelled the show !! Love Beast From The East !! There is also a live pro shot dvd of Dokken from 87 when they opened for Aerosmith, great live video from the 80's. Both those Rush live albums are great, but yes Exit is my favorite too. Good to see Magpie from Marillion, have not spun that in months.Great list of live albums bro !!

kingsdrummer Thanks bro! Saw your latest pop up in the feed, have to catch it, was gettin' worried about ya! Remember you grabbin' Live After Death, originals are scarce! You are 100% responsible for me owning Magpie and I couldn't be more thankful. I can't count how many times I've spun side one of that and now know it note for note. Didn't realize you had come within an inch of catching Whitesnake live in '90! Sarzo, Aldridge, Coverdale.....man, it doesn't get any better. Grabbed that one at Amazon a year or two ago, maybe they still have them in stock? It's a killer listen! Thanks for tunin' in bro, I'll get caught up soon! - Lj

Great video LJ! I saw the Scorpions on their World Wide Live tour in August, 1986. They were the headliners for the European Monsters of Rock tour (was around long before the one in the USA). The lineup was MSG - Bon Jovi - Def Leppard - Ozzy - Scorpions. They put on a great show. This was in Germany when I was stationed over there a month before I got married. --Tim

Killer stack, Props LJ for showing both Scorps live offerings. Its one of those 1 and 1A choices. No Sleep At All is unbelievable. Sabb's Live Evil is arguably their best album cover ever for me. Goddo Lighve is killer. Something so down and dirty about Goddo thats irresistable. I have the German import of Best seat that has the inside gatefold image (trashed seats) that you showed as the actual album cover. Great energy and update my friend. cheers,Lee

Hey Lj you made my week so cool to see Goddo make your list. I'm a huge Goddo fan, have been since 1976. I got to see them live once in Rochester, N.Y. and at Uncle Sam's in Niagara Falls, Canada! Someday soon I am going to get involved with the VC and I will share some Goddo memorabilia with you!! I just had the "In Goddo We Trust" cd in my car deck last night The Bus Driver Blues & Too Much Carousing Rules! Saw them do a 15m version of Cock on live they always extend their songs at live shows! Let me recommend the Goddo cd "Under My Hat" Volume 1 lot's of live trks from various clubs around Toronto back in the 70's!!

Maria Horvath Hi Maria! Thanks for takin' the time to catch this! We're 100% aligned on Def Leppard. Those first two albums, and even the third to some extent, were just off the charts. Like you, I've always wished they had put out something from those tours but I truly think they want nothing to do with those years anymore which is just sad. Someone mentioned that the cd reissue of Pyromania comes packed with a live show from '83. I haven't heard it but it may be worth checkin' out. Let me know if you do! Thanks again and hope your Halloween was a great one as well! - Lj

Metal Theologian The Def Leppard buy was a moment of either weakness, completest or both 4-5 years ago. If memory serves, it was less than $20 brand new at the shop and I figured what the hell, at least it's got no material from Songs From the Sparkle Lounge. What band pulls that title out anyway? Man, talk about forgetting where you came from. It's not good man, avoid it and track down a live Beefheart release instead. - Lj

Man, I turned on that band so hard that I completely wrote them off for years and years.. it was only within the last year, that I managed to bring myself to get another copy of High 'n' Dry (after ditching my old one, damn, probably in the 80s) when I came across it dirt cheap..... and surprise surprise, it's a great record.

ryanrocks84 Ah, Deep Purple! Excellent choice Ben! so hard to narrow this down to just fifteen. While I love Made in Japan, I do kind of feel like it's one big long jam session and I guess I just tend to prefer more songs than I do a 20 minute version of something. Just personal preference! Glad to hear your familiar with Live Evil, it's a masterpiece! You've been awful quiet for the past couple of weeks, hope that means your settling into the new place and we'll see it soon! Hey LJ! Great choices there, some i know, some i'm unfamiliar with. I'll comment on just a couple, Unleashed In The East,i had it somewhere in the late 80's/early 90's, didn't like it (can you believe that?) and sold it. A few years back i bought it on cd and now i think it's among the best heavy live albums of all time. I've been looking for it on vinyl for sometime now,but no luck yet. I have seen it several times, but it's either with too damaged cover or with a barcode, which i'm usually not against, but now that i have time to look for it,why not go for one without. Scorpions World Wide Live,i listened to it a LOT during the first year that i had it,then i bought it on video and have barely listened to it since,on record that is. That's why i choose Tokyo Tapes. Live Evil has really grown on me,it's easily my most played live record from the last year or two. I have the one cd version and i'm now looking for the vinyl, though i'm not sure if i'm going to be spinning it much as i'm used to hearing it the way i have it now. Whitesnake,i haven't bought that Donington 90 record in any form. I loved Whitesnake so much until Vai joined the band and completely ruined it. That first cover Fool For Your Lovin' was equal to a massacre of a great song and i've never forgiven Vai for it. Coverdale wasn't without blame either, just listen to that bloody awful ballad Deeper the Love. Live in the Heart of the City includes one of the very best moments of Whitesnake, Ain't Gonna Cry No More, perfection from the first notes in the intro to the very last notes fading. Take Care, Pasi

Another great list there Lj, cant disagree with much from it, its scary how much were alike in taste, agree the Leppard stuff is really sad, to me "on through the night" is killer and "wasted" just hammers down the high energy and sets the tone for me.. One i may have included in the top 15 list would have been another one of my favorite bands, UFO with "strangers in the night" so many killer songs," Love to Love" being up there. Got the same 1st press of Maiden live after death, one of my top vinyl . so many to rebuy or still get out in the wild.

Jacks2start Hey Guy, Hello America! We're 100% spot on, On Through the Night and High N' Dry are just hands down classics! I'm even comfortable, although a little less so, with Pyromania, but anything that followed just got worse and worse. Strangers in the Night, dammit! Fantastic album, great call and Love to Love is by far and away the best cut on the entire album! You started by saying it was wild how similar we were. When I read that it was your favorite track as well, I agree! Thanks for tunin' in, great to hear from ya! - Lj

***** Hey there! Glad you dug the video and maybe even got inspired to check some of them out. As far as modern releases go, honestly, it's only the bands that were around back in the day like Saxon, etc. that seem to still remember the format and it's appeal. I really just don't see many newer rock or metal bands making live releases. Of course there's a few exceptions but as a mainstream thing to do, the format's lifeless (appropriate for Halloween!). BioCYTE1 Was telling Scotty that recently I was buying an OG 1st UK press of "# of the beast", had it in my firm clutches until the seller told me €20 ($25)- what?????? He tells me that metal vinyl prices are going through the roof here and he would have no problem selling it at that price. Sensing a copious amount of bullshit, I left him with it. I'm going after the recent (non-picture disc) reissue, instead. That VC member in Finland ("Mikka", I think) loves that live Maiden and what he calls their "prog" release "Somewhere in time". Yeah, I'm drying out. Well, until the pubs reopen in 21 minutes, 12 seconds time. Tick, tick....

Hey LJ, some great picks. Believe it or not, I'm a moderate Kiss fan and have all their 70's albums on vinyl minus the solo ones, yet DO NOT own alive, i've never even heard it. I've never been big on live albums, however next time i come across it in the wild, i think you talked me into buying a copy, its certainly not rare. However i do own the Maiden live after death. Its good but sometimes dickinson gets annoying as in the version of Running free when he keeps talking to the audience. Rumor has it Priest unleashed in the east was a studio recording with fan sounds edited in.

Bryan Fitts Hey there Bryan. Agree 100% that reports have abounded for years about technical wizardry employed when fixing notes or glitches but the rumors surrounding Unleashed in the East just about take the cake! Well, it's rumored that Slayer's Live Undead was recorded just about the same way. I guess however you slice it, as a listener, if it feels like a live album and sounds like a live album, I'm happy. Speaking of happy, I'm happy to hear you're planning on giving Kiss Alive! a chance. Absolutely fantastic and one of the over-hyped albums that's actually worth the praise it's received. Holy hell, what a list! My hawkeye is spotting that killer RAM album...not to mention, the mighty Cowboys From Hell \,,/. Onto the list...Runaways had a live album?! Shit man, just looked it up and it's a bit pricey. Def 1 I'm putting on my list! Maiden, Scorps, KISS, Ozzy, Sabbath, AC/DC...all essential! 'World Wide Live' was 1 of those albums I remember spinning constantly as a kid, staring at that gatefold for hours on end. Loved the VHS version of it as well, u got the VHS or seen it before? It's awesome and got worn the hell out! 'All The World's A Stage' is essential and a great way to experience those early Rush albums. Dokken!! YES! They were on fire and could've done so much more after this...sad that this was really the end for them for the 80s, but one hell of a way to go out w/ a BANG! Priest...Unleashed In The Studio! ;). Who cares?! It sounds killer and is a great cap to their 70s output. Just shows why they are the 'Metal Gods'! Slayer, Testament...perfect entries representing Thrash. Ya know, I remember when u showed that Def Lep awhile back. I just can't listen to anything of theirs past 'Hysteria'. Yeah, the albums that followed had some good songs here and there but not enough for me to jump out of my seat and run to the record store. If there would've been a live album after 'Pyromania', that would've capped it all off perfectly. Isle Of Wight really is a great moment in time where The Who were just firing on all cylinders! S&M, yeah I can agree w/ ya there. I'll just stick to my live Justice bootlegs and be happy w/ that :). 'Intermission' is one of those moments where u get high hopes that it's going to be great b/c it's Dio and it's live...uninspired is right! Still, I def need to get it on vinyl b/c I'm a damn completist...or an addict...or a vinyl hoarder...whatever fits best depending on the day lol. WHEW, that was a long one! (did u expect anything less? haha)

***** Craig's firing on all cylinders tonight everyone, watch out! Hawkeye servin you well and you know your album cover (like anyone would have thought otherwise) if you caught Cowboys from little more than the corner peekin' out!! Ram's Lightbringer is a killer album, that one has to find it's way into your collection sooner than later! You love your Priest and you'll love that album! Sadly, your right, The Runaways stuff has become very collectable and very hard to find for anything that resembles reasonable and the Live album, as far as I know, was never released in the US which only ramps up the difficulty. The one I showed is a Canadian pressing that I've had for awhile. Such a good album though and 100% worth it! Priest in the studio maybe but I'm ok with that. Hard to find a love album without overdubs but as long as it feels live and the crowd is cheering, ah, who cares. Early Leps for the win every time, thanks for hangin' out brother! - Lj

If you say that these were great live albums of course I have to take your word on it. I am not too hip when it comes to live albums. But you did represent some great bands. I counted the bands that you showed and I saw everyone of them live except for one. Can you guess which one? It was good to hear that Bon got a mention on 'If You Want Blood'. I am familiar with that one and it was a good show. Although the recording itself was weak. I was never a big fan of David Coverdale until I heard the album he did with Page. I always thought he was walking in Plant's footsteps. But the Page/Coverdale album proved me wrong. He can sing and he surely has payed his dues in the lead singer category. Way to go Lj~ Rob/Boston

Paneeks1960 Brother Rob! Coverdale has paid his dues and then some for sure and that Coverdae Page album is fantastic. To this day, I remember when you got it on vinyl in a VCLT package and I just paused and drooled. Finding that in the wild would take my breath away. It doesn't surprise me in the lease to hear you've seen every one, well almost every one, of these bands. Guess which one? Oh wow, one guess? Dio. Am I right? I couldn't not give Bon a nod. He's was the ultimate showman and I love but for energy, set list and production, the Johnson era package wins hands down. It really is driven by mood though which one hits the turntable. Thanks a million for taking the time to watch this through and tolerate another 15 minutes of my endless fanboy drivel. - Lj/SnowOnSunday?

Good guess Lj. It was actually two of the bands that you showed that I had not seen live One was Goddo and the other is Marillion. I did see Ronnie James Dio with Sabbath in the early 90's. He was actually in my top three alltime favorite metal vocalists. The guy was amazing. But so isn't Halford. Rob/DidUSaySnow? I am hoping that Christmas comes and goes so I can start counting the days down to another endless summer. I am letting my sick time, personal days and vacation days build up so I can go somewhere warm next year when winter arrives again. I just do not do well in the cold Lj. I've not thought of, watched, or listened to that one for a loooooong time. Still, wish they had released a proper live album at some point alongside Maiden's Live After Death! It's ok though, I've read that they're planning to release a couple hundred useless live shows from the past 5 years or so now. I guess they think they're now the Grateful Dead. Hell-of-a-string of live albums, Mr. Lj! I have to admit that I don't have all of those but at least I have some... I'd like to comment a few of those... - "Alive!" by Kiss is a real classic. The thing that I really love about it is that the versions are not one-to-one compared to the studio versions of those songs. - "Speak Of The Devil" by Ozzy has interesting versions and especially guitar parts are the ones which catch my attention. Mr. Gillis definitely didn't try to re-create Tony's original guitar parts. - "Live Evil" by Black Sabbath has a unique guitar sound. That's the sound that cannot be found on any album anywhere! - There was a time when I thought that "Live After Death" was the best live album ever... ;-) - Scorpions were on fire during their "World Wide Live" period! It may not be hard to find on vinyl but around here it would be hard to find in a really good condition with the poster. Still alive and kickin' my aZZ, Jarkko / MyVinylBar

MyVinylBar Now those are some seriously awesome and accurate comments! You hit the nail on the head about Alive, the studio version can't even compare and the live albums that do are just useless. Have you heard Duran Duran's "Arena"? I do love Duran Duran but that album is just a pitch perfect recreation of the studio tracks. Just useless. Did you say you "used" to think Live After Death was the best live album ever? Calling the paramedics now, they'll take you to a nice padded room and play Live After Death for you over and over until you remember it IS the greatest. Have you seen A Clockwork Orange? ;-) Keep kickin' Azz my brother, thanks for tunin' in! - Lj

Man, your videos are like a guide for what album to get when I'm out hunting for vinyl... from the ones you showed I only have Iron Maiden, Rush and Kiss live albums and they are killer live albums, I wouldn't know which one is my favorite... I saw that Whitesnake live album in a music store here, I'll go for it next week end and check it out... By the way, I already listened to the Iron Maiden reissues, and Live After Death sounds awesome. But Killers and Number Of The BEast don't sound as great as the originals, this new reissue of Killers sounds exactly the same as the picture disc of 2013, dull and as if a blanket was covering the speakers... But the first album has a great audio quality, it's the best of them all, I think that's a keeper... Piece of Mind and Powerslave have great audio quality but not as great as the originals. So if you already have the original editions you don't need to get these new reissues man, unless you want new and clean copies of each one. Great new video man! Have a nice day... -IQ

Israel Quezada IQ! Hey brother! Thanks for the lowdown on the Maiden reissues. Really. I've seen a lot of people showing them but not a lot of people talking about how they sound. I have a complete collection of originals up through Fear of the Dark (which I'm missing) and they sound killer. I'm sure I'll pick the reissues up eventually if they turn up cheap but it's too bad about classic like Killers that it wouldn't be top notch. I suspect a lot of collectors that never had them though will be so happy to own them and without an original to compare it too, they may not know the difference. Oh, the Whitesnake album is a killer, you'll love it! Grabbed that one on Amazon a year or two ago. Thanks for tunin' in, bring on the weekend man! - Lj

I have tons of live DVDs and I rarely watch them. Just don't seem to ever have time to sit and watch a live concert. I listen to music constantly, but to watch a concert, it just never happens any more.

+MrLorence Agreed. I've had LSB&P since it was released. Too bad it never found it's way to vinyl. Amazing, given their popularity that apart from it and S&M, there's never been a real quality official release of any classic ('83-'88) era show on vinyl. - Lj

Just a followup to this convo...found something floating around that probably is the closest to an official release from them. Its called Japanese Justice and its a 3 LP set..I might pull the trigger on it at the right price..I found your channel looking into the 2M cart since then I built my first setup (McIntosh MA5100 and Pro-Ject DC Esprit SB TT going into McIntosh XR1052s)..keep up the cool videos since we are into the same music mostly!

Another update..I got that Japanese Justice LP set in the mail today finally..got it for a decent price..its a SBD recording pressing but its still pretty good quality. I had to enable the loudness to enhance the lows and it sounds like an 8.5-10..not as good as LSBP, but hey its close..gonna try and score the Live at Auburn Hills MI set next..

I have river plate. It's good but I think the crowd noise is a bit overdone and the band just doesn't sound as good as on Donnington Imo. Stiff upper lip was a great live dvd album aswell.

Do you not own Cheap Trick at Budokan? The Runaways are my 2nd favorite band, but the way Cherry Bomb was presented on that Live from Japan album makes it one notch lower than that Cheap Trick album, which is probably my fave live album. I can never understand the love for that Kiss Alive! album. When I first listened to it I knew that they would leave out one certain thing in the song Cold Gin that must be in there! Just before the lyric "The cheapest stuff is all I need..." there was a "ha-ha" or a "huh-huh" on the studio album missing from that live album. I don't know why but it throws me out of the album every time. And I'm not a big fan of the other songs on the album, either. I guess I just like their studio stuff more. Don't ask me why, because I do not know. It's been said that the Alive! album is rawer than that of the studio counter parts, and I usually like rawer material, but there is just something odd about the album that makes me just cringe while trying to enjoy it...

Scott Provin Hi Scott. I have Trick's Budokan, great album and great call. This list was insanely difficult to knock down to fifteen so some had to be cut. Ideally, it would have been 100 and Trick and others would have been included. The full show that was released on cd much later that restores not only missing tracks but also the correct running order as opposed to the song order that was on the original is equally awesome. Alive! can suffer from it's well hyped reputation but for me, it's what Trick is to you....perfection. Thanks for tunin' in, great comment. - Lj

You mention Live after death, great live album, specially the part from Hammersmith ´84, but for me the live album from ´88 is better, Maiden England. The Runaways, ok live album, but perhaps not qualified as top 15. My list would be like this; 15. Iron Maiden - Maiden England/NEC ´88 14. Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East 13. Led Zeppelin - The Song remains the Same 12. Whitesnake - Live in the Heart of the City 11. AC-DC - If you want blood, you´ve got it 10. Candlemass - Live in Stockholm 1990 9. Kiss - Alive 8. Thin Lizzy - Live and dangerous 7. Deep Purple - Live in Graz 1975 6. Scorpions - Tokyo tapes 5. Motörhead - No sleep til Hammersmith 4. Rainbow - Live in Germany 1976 3. Deep Purple - Live in Stockholm 1970 2. UFO - Strangers in the Night 1. Deep Purple - Made in Japan

Hi Dont have many of these, the 2 rush ones and live evil, that and exit stage left bought new back in the day. Have put a better list on scott's video. My 2 absolute favorites are made in japan by deep purple and queen live killers, you dont get better entertainment than now i'm here and brighton rock on live killers, queen were at their peak, and there is freddy mercury, to me the greatest frontman of all, yes it is hard rock. On made in japan, all the big numbers and a side long space truckin, what more could you ask for. My record buying history petered out a bit in the 1980's, have seen slayer live, never paid them much attention so cant remember anything about it, other bands on the set that i was interested in, thats history now.
