You should add Adobe Character Animator to the list. You can drive your 2D puppet with your webcam! Using your webcam you can easily create lip sync animation and now it has full body motion tracking.

Great presentation of different approaches in 2D animation! I prefer to use Adobe Animate for animation and edit with Adobe Premier. I am not a beginner. I have been working with Flash for more than 20 years, it is a very convenient and logical program.

Yeah, it's A-'doe-bee or A-'doe-bae, depending on where you're from.

I love ToonBoom sm. It's a very technical software, but very effective if you get the hang of it. I especially love its 'deformations' feature.

I’m surprised photoshop wasn’t mentioned anywhere, some of the best animators around these days work in photoshop

TVPaint is wonderful for both animation and illustration. First rate. I shun Adobe since a) they took the Path of Darkness and went subscription; b) they’re ridiculously expensive; and c) they’re overrated - there are other competitive alternatives out there.

Their software has often been bugridden. I bailed on CC when a Photoshop 'upgrade' nuked the program. We had a very long thread on the Adobe forums about this, many people were unable to run the app, and there was ZERO assistance from Adobe about it. The fact that we were paying $ for this, to be treated so shabbily, really speaks volumes for how awful the company is now. I bailed on Adobe then, my fix was to buy an old version of PS CS6, which does everything I need when I do need PS; and I've migrated to Krita for trad character animation.

Hi, of quality 3d motion graphics of course Cinema 4d ( There are more motion tools ) for 3d generalist of course Blender for 2d animation, cartoon series, compositing and vfx - After Effects for classic professional cartoon animations - Moho

Adobe animate is more for classic frame to frame 2d animation plus it has many features and tools and after effects as its name says it has many effects that you can add to your animations or you can create animations for audiovisual projects in resumen adobe animate for drawing, after effects for post production effects or animation... both software can be used together or separately

You did not mention Adobe character animator. Any reason why?

For animation on an iPad try Callipeg or Rough Animator. Rough Animator also works on Android tablets.
