Also, Three Amigos is the only movie that I know of that Randy Newman was involved with that he didn't do the score for. Randy co- wrote it and wrote the songs, but the score was done by Elmer Bernstein.

Here's another tidbit. Comedian Sam Kinison's final film was this one.. although the scenes were deleted and removed. Still looking to see if they ever found them and put them on youtube. That would be a find.

@@alg11297 The reviews at the time were mixed. I believe this is because the comedy content wasn't Neanderthal slapstick or fart jokes. It requires the viewer to have a brain. The humor was dialectic and alot of people, including some critics, simply didn't "get" the jokes. Most people who fall in this category changed their opinion after a second or third viewing. Think about your favorite albums/bands, you almost never fall in love with them the first time. The better they are the longer it takes. I apologize for my rude response and commend you for your rational one.

....and to answer your question, the scene where Martin Short falls on the table in the middle of El Guapo's henchmen and asks "what is this, are Amigos falling from the sky?" One of his men respond "Yes El Guapo!". Not very funny reading it, but the situation, the people, and the timing of the response are comic genius! The entire movie relies on clever stupidity and impeccable timing. The reason Steve Martin has been funny and popular his entire career!

It makes plenty of sense. Cinema was very much in its infancy during the time period in which it was set. So it's understandable that girl from a small Mexican village could see their film amd mistake the Amigos for real benevolent mercenaries. The movie also shows an accurate depiction of world history with the German arms dealers. Germany, at the time, was trying to keep the USA out of the Great War. So they were arming Mexican Bandit groups to try to keep the US military distracted with the chaos they would cause on the border.
