I am just back from holidays trip in Kona across Europe ( Poland Germany, Switzerland, France). Two legs of 1400km, 15h drive time, average consumption around 18.5kWh/100km with roofbox. Kona handled that nicely even with roofbox and 3 people onboard. Ionity as charging network in Europe made it much easier and cheaper.

The rockies in Canada are really beautiful in the area you drove through. Thank you for the video. I enjoyed watching.

Great to see you back! Love the Kona...we put just shy of 48,000km on our 23 Ultimate in 10 months of owning it - we picked up our Ioniq5 last Friday. I love the Ioniq but I do miss the Kona. Whoever gets our old Kona will be getting an awesome vehicle...no battery defradation that we could see, excellent range, not a single problem with it...we just needed more room when road tripping and the faster charge speed is nice as well! Thanks again for the video and look forward to the next one...BC is my old stomping grounds lived there for 10 years and we will be back there this fall again - road trip! 😂 Mike

You should do a review on your e-kona. Likes/dislikes after 4 years ownership. I enjoy your meticulous videos, they are very informative.

Hello S. Interesting to see this part of your road trip as we did Regina to Nanaimo in our 2022 Kona this June. We also used the Electrify Canada chargers as they just "work" all the time. And we always started with 74kw on activation which was great. I found it interesting that our range was better in the mountains than on the flat prairies but realize that wind and elevation are a factor on the prairies. The On the Run chargers we used were very good as well and your observation echoed my research as to "split" charging but we were fortunate to be the only vehicle at the chargers when we used them. Thanks and FYI your videos were very important when we planned this first ever road trip with our Kona! cheers, Elmar

Great video! The impact of elevation gain or loss makes a clear difference in your efficiency.

Scenery on the ice field highway is breathtaking. We just got back to Los Angeles after a 4400 mile loop through Yosemite NP, Olympic NP, Victoria, Whistler, Jasper, Banff, Calgary, and Yellowstone NP. We took our E-Bikes as well. It’s really the best way to ride up to lake Morraine. We took our Ford Explorer SUV instead of our Mach E due to insufficient charging Infrastructure. Your Vlog encourages us the take the Mach E next time

around the 10 min. mark, i was just thinking about your packing. i just bought a bolt euv. the rear view mirror can use the rear camera as it's view in case of interior blockage. blind spot sensors and indicators in the side mirrors. just need a clear view of them. i live nw of edmonton and liked your trip from edmonton to calgary by jasper/banff. let me see there are some chargers around here. 😄 hwy 43 is still sad state. we don't road trip and edmonton is an easy return destination, along with whitecourt and stony plain/spruce grove. spent the money on the car to save on commuting energy costs. right now i pay 15 cents kwh, while gas is at $1.33 ltr. 😁

Do you have a whole collection of apps for these different charging networks? I haven't done a big trip in my kona yet, but I've been collecting apps to see what it's all about. It'd be nice if they just had an interac machine on the chargers.

Good luck at new job. With hot battery. What is charging time to 75% at 70 plus kw.

If I am charging at full speed around 75kW from 0% tp 75% it will probably take around 45min. The Kona seems to be able to manage the battery temp in warm weather well. When I was on a trip from Seattle to Calgary ambient temperature was between 30C to 35C. The highest battery temp I saw while repeatedly charging the Kona on Electrify Canada at full speed was 42C. The Kona would thermal throttle with battery temp at 50C. I don't know how well it handles full speed DC fast charging under heat wave conditions of 40C ambient temp.

Does your Kona also suffer from the clunking noise when braking?

  • @READYSTEADYCHARGE

No, my Kona does not have clunking noise when braking. Have you had your brakes checked? Because I use regen a lot, sometimes the brake disc gets a bit rusty. But as long as I use the disc brakes once in a while it is okay.

@@READYSTEADYCHARGE Nah brakes were never changed. It was purchased with only 6800kms on it and its a 2023 model so its relatively new. It is apparently a common issue but no recall from Hyundai or any notes in regards to fixes. It does not happen when regen braking is applied but will happen fairly often when braking by foot.
