Agreed but that statement is all about control. She has a great deal of anxiety and anxiety breeds control. She is trying to maintain some level of control by dictating when she is ready to leave. Initially she is telling them that she isn't going at all and at some point, she realizes that she has lost control of the situation and is, in fact, going. She then tries to reestablish control by dictating the terms of her departure by saying that she will leave once she has food. I deal with these sorts of mental health patients when transporting them in the ambulance all of the time. The councilors are clearly trained in these techniques by getting her some food and allowing her to think that she is in control while in truth, they are in control. It was well done. We have to do certain things like this to get people on the ambulance by asking them if they want to sit in this chair or that chair... or if they want me to put the blood pressure cuff on this arm or that arm. These are irrelevant decisions but they make the patient feel like they are in control when again, my only goal is to get them into the ambulance and they really never had a choice about it because the police section 12'd them and they are going whether they want to or not.

Despite whatever behavior she presented, this is traumatic for any child or any person. I’ve personally been sent to facilities like this, and it’s the most terrifying and heartbreaking feeling. The feeling of betrayal from your guardians, the fear of what will happen when you get there, it’s awful. These facilities also don’t give much information to the child and sometimes not even the parent. There is so much abuse in these industries and in psych wards, it needs to stop. Sending your child away is not going to fix their behavior or mental health, it’s going to traumatize them and they will never trust you again.

I would like to say I have been in these parents shoes my daughter was 14 and I wanted to send her to a place for troubled teens and the tables really turned on me when she did her own research before I even sent her. She came to find out that where I wanted to send her also had abuse allegations and come to find out that they closed two years later and moved their facility out of state. In my opinion I think they closed snd moved because of these allegations and were gone before any real charges were filed. So they pretty much got away Scott free. As desperate as I was to send my child to a place that said they help troubled teens I am grateful for my daughter that she did research this facility and We found out what was being alleged. I could’ve sent her to a place where she could’ve been mistreated. She saved herself from her mother’s desperate attempt to get her help and she could’ve came back even more damaged and traumatized.

So glad my parents discipline me. I’d never talk to them if they did this to me.

Failure of the parents. If you start disciplining kids with age appropriate punishments a young age, they most likely will not turn out like this girl.

Y’all are gonna all disagree with me but she should not have to go if she doesn’t want to. Especially a place like Turn-about Ranch. It’s a wilderness therapy camp. All those places are abusive and toxic. She’s deadass having a mental breakdown but people are just dismissing it as bad behavior. All those wilderness therapy camps NEED to be shut down. Especially Turn-About Ranch

If I had acted that way at her age, I'd get slapped upside the head, even if I was bruised up! I would have shut my damn mouth before I got more smacked!
