14. OBSCENE EFFORT - West Ham United - The Billy Bonds Years - 1991-1992 Part 6 of 6

Part 14 of a series charting the history of West Ham United during the four and a half years of Billy Bonds' management.
The Hammers are all but down. The arrival of Clive Allen boosts morale but he can't stop the overwhelming tide. West Ham go down fighting though, a 1-0 win over Manchester United goes part way towards handing the title to Leeds United. A final day flourish against Nottingham Forest is a fitting farewell for Frank McAvennie. Bonds knows he will need to bring in new faces and the promotion back to the new Premier League is essential if the club is to survive. He turns to a familar old, somewhat saggy face.....

Overshadowed by the incredibly sad death of Bobby Moore at only 51 in the February. But on the field we were a joy to watch with Keen and Robson running the flanks. And the Cambridge match - I was only 14 and felt uncomfortably squashed on the North Bank. Only time I've been a bit frightened for my safety at football. What scenes afterwards though!!!!!!! ❤👏

I'm a Manchester United fan, have been since 1984, and I would rather watch this great series than any of the rubbish that football has become nowadays. I was on the away end for our defeat at Upton Park. I was gutted. Yet I suppose it turned out OK in the end!! The bond scheme was disgusting. No wonder the West Ham fans protested like they did. In fact I thought that they were very restrained.

The Norwich game was perfect. We played brilliantly and looked a totally different side with Alvin finally back from injury and Clive Allen settling in. What a beautiful sunny afternoon it was. Almost as if it was like a one-off match. Missed Man Ure game though. Cheers Rob. Thankfully 91/92 is out of the way now. 😊

Many thanks for these brilliant videos Rob they are fantastic and bring back loads of great memories (both good and bad when you’re a hammer!!🤣👍). Went to my first game in 91/92 home to Coventry - we lost 1-0 played rubbish and it was raining like there was no tomorrow but none of that could lessen my love and loyalty to the best club in the world COYI⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️👊😉👍

It's kinda ironic that it takes Frankie boy until his last ever competitive match for the Hammers to notch his first ever hat-trick for the club. What's tragic is that it's set against the back-drop of a club already doomed to relegation. Still what a way to sign off Frank. You are a club legend!

"Subject to change". Wonderful Robert. Wonderful. Love it so much. Ps: Frank is timeless as a West Ham hero. Regardless. And I speak as someone who truly loves Billy Bonds. The latter being my one true hero. Thank you for these programmes Robert. Wonderful. ⚒️♥️

The Palace game was my last regular game watching West Ham. I'd gad a standing season ticket for the chicken run for about 10 years, but with the Bond scheme, relegation, and the 30% hike in ticket prices I gave up going. I did manage the odd game after that.

@johnnyhubbard2227 That only £2.26 per game. No way. Average price for the Premier league ( which we missed out on) the next season was £6 standing, and that would mostly be behind the goals.

I'm a Manchester United fan and I didn't agree with what Fergie said after our defeat at Upton Park. West Ham still weren't relegated at that point and had everything to play for. Plus those sort of games always give the opposition a big lift. I was there in the away end and, although I was gutted, West Ham deserved to win. I'd rather watch this great series than the rubbish we get nowadays. VAR nonsense, overpaid players with no loyalty and grounds with no atmosphere. No thanks.

I agree with you spirit and loyalty has gone from the game . If u watch Banksys work it makes you realise , even the music was better.Fergie went on to make special history which will never be repeated , though we occasionally disrupted him.

@@andycornell6942great point about the music, I totally agree with you. Yeah, the end of the 1994/95 season was another game I went to at Upton Park that I'd rather forget!! West Ham have always been a proper old school football club that do things properly. Although they made a mistake moving from Upton Park, in my opinion anyway.
