This is not reading...but it is a clear example. When a parent makes a huge effort to teach there children at a infant to toddler stage! Bravo to this mother for all the effort reading to her child...he now recognizes sight words and makes hand gestures and looks up and points to the sight words....which is fantastic at this age! This child will learn to read sooner than his peers....again excellent work to the parents of the baby....

Screen time doesn’t “damage brain cells”. Over exposure and inappropriate apps can cause mental and social harm with addiction, sleep schedule, and antisocial behavior, but I believe as long as you curate educational apps, limit screen time, and have co-interaction/don’t leave them alone with screens, they can become resourceful educational tools… on the other hand if you let them use any app (ie TikTok), alone, whenever they want, however they want, that’s is not good. Usually vague health recommendations against screentime are stated in order to try to prevent parents using screens as babysitters.

The child isn't understanding a single letter, he has no concept at all of the meaning of the words let alone understanding what words even are in the first place. This is the same as training him to point at a certain object when he sees a picture he's trained to associate with it. And a lot of it is very likely influenced behind the camera.

Well, aren't we smart, so many ways to go, so many options, and in the end we think we got it right, but it is only because we fool ourselves to believe in our possibilities. What we see here is a mother and a child interacting, it works because both are willing to cooperate and react with one another - the child is not reacting to the book, and it is not reading it is the mother, experiments have shown this extensively, it only works with the mother's interaction. If you love your child or children, get them to interact with you, games that make fun, sing songs and tell little funny stories, get the child in a happy chatty mood ask questions and react with approval when you receive an answer, make corrections as part of the game, don't insist it's game not work, show the child that you love to play and be together touch and hug the child comfort and cuddle and be happy and chatty if you do this whenever you are together with the child you will get the child you want the child you love.

It is supposed to be read quickly. He is listening and watching intently. When we speak to our children, we speak at just about the rate she is reading. Children pick up language quickly with that and with repetition. She will read those books to him several times each over the course of a couple months. He will absorb the words. This is about learning words by sight, and not so much about the content of the story, but the baby also learns the story as time goes on. Babies love being read to this way.

A babies brain works like a super computer. You need to go at least this fast for them to absorb the information because they are constantly trying to make sense of the world around them. If you go to slow, they will lose interest. Same thing with repetition. If you always teach them something in certain orders, like 1,2,3... they will remember it ends with 10 and get bored. The younger they are, the faster and more random you go.

Caroline Taylor We would recommend that you read Glenn Doman's book "How to Teach Your baby to Read". It provides all the background on how to do this Reading Program with your child. You can buy this book and other materials, like the reading words that you see in this video, at www.gentlerevolution.com.

iahpvideos I have read four of your books already and have bought reading cards as well as the dot cards, I just loved how this woman made such nice little books. Plus I have gathered hundreds of pictures that I want to convert to cards at home. Any suggestions? I think your organization is just a blessing to anyone willing to try. Thanks!

Please consider coming to our Institutes in Philadelphia and attending the "How to Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence" course. We give it three times yearly. We teach parents during the course about teaching children to read, do math, encylclopedic knowledge, becoming physically superb, speak foreign languages, etc. If you're interested, contact us at facebook@iahp.org.

'Phonetic reading' has been shown to be the better method of learning to read than 'whole word'. And it is definitely better if you want your child to be able to read anything...not just memorize whole words by their shapes. I suggest that parents NEVER say the names of letters but instead the sounds. I had to actually shield my children from learning the names of letters because it is just SO confusing for a child (or adult learning a second language) to learn both. Learning the sounds of letters can initially be a challenge for parents. Example the letter 'O' goes AW....as in HOT. It does not normally go OH. At least they should not learn the OH sound first. Later. So I called the letter 'O' = AW. "Give me the AW." My little Christopher was almost at his second birthday and could say any vowel learned over 2 weeks casually as magnetic letters on the fridge. I then introduced consonants, one at a time. Btw I would be cooking at the stove during all of this. No pressure. It all came as easily as a toddler learning to identify any object in his environment; ball, pencil, hat, A, E, I, O, U etc... (Remember sounds only!). At his second birthday I strung TA together, then MA, then BA etc..and he could say them. I made up silly sounds which he loved....MA TA BA BA KA. One day I put CAT on the fridge...and I got down on one knee next to him and I put my finder under each letter and he said them all. Then I told him to keep his voice going and slid my finger from C to A to T...and he himself realized he had said the word CAT. At his second birthday Christopher could read...and was toilet trained! Two big accomplishments! He was reading Dr. Seuss books at his 3rd birthday. And at kindergarten the school board tested him at grade 6 level with comprehension. They didn't test at a higher level. I taught my other children the same way and they were about 6 - 12 months behind Christopher. As young children they could read cereal boxes, messages I left them, newspaper headlines!...library books, store front names, menus, instructions, workbooks etc... They also LOVED to write things down themselves. It became a favourite activity. Drawing and adding titles and messages was fun. Phonetic reading opened up a while new world for them.

Robin Michetti - Hello Robin, thx for the brief, good report. It's similar to what I imagined I will do with my baby regarding teaching them to read. You proved me right, thanks again :-). Btw. your other children were behind your first son (at same age) maybe because you naturally didn't have anymore the amount of time and focus left for them and their older sibling(s) like you had it with your firstborn alone. You automatically have to divide your attention, teaching and time on more kids, hence the younger ones got a lighter education version per day, although you structured the programme the same. Greetings from Germany.

İn Germany children are tought to read with the phonetic sounds of the letters rather than the alphabetical names at 1st & 2nd grade in school. Even though we started of later to read than this age, İ can totally relate to that statement! Way easier to understand it

Exactly Robin! My wife and I had to search high and low to find a program that didn't just use sight words. We had wonderful success with this one: www.how2teachreading.com . We started using it shortly after our son started talking and it was a great program. He is now in 3rd grade and is well above his reading level!

Envy? Why the rush is a legitimate question. If we look at the countries that have rushed their children they score much lower in future happiness scores. Also there is no evidence that if a kid is identifying pictures at this age (not reading),. that they will be any better at reading that a kid who is not rushed by age 12. A survey of teachers in Australia for instance found that they don't want kids to be able to read before they start school, that is their job to teach them....what they do want is emotionally stable children.
