I’m so happy someone else has had the experience of discovering Dream Theater. My first experience was one of my friends putting on Scenes From A Memory while we played video games at his house back in 2006 or 2007. My life has never been the same.

My father introduced me to dream theater through three albums he had on cd. He thought I'd enjoy them, just as he had. By god was he right! A 10 year old me was put through images and words, train of thought and awake, all in one single long car ride. Thank you so much for that, dad!

8:01 The solo of "The best of times" is absolutely outstanding. The context of the band in that moment, the reason the song was written for... the perfect notes for a funeral song, and for goodbyes.

Black Clouds & silver linings is and has always been probably my favorite dream theater album. It doesn’t have the legendary concept status that SFAM has, but the songwriting, riff writing, and solos have to be my favorites.

My favorite of all these solos is definitely the one from The Best of Times. I'm no guitarist myself, so I may be saying nonsense, but I feel John Petrucci managed to capture perfectly the feelings Mike Portnoy had at that time. Sadness for losing his father to such a terrible illness. Joy for the time they spent together. Grief. Loneliness. I remember being brought to tears when I heard the song for the first time, and I showed the solo to my father. He was almost crying as well by the end of it.

Absolutely amazing playing bro! The margin for error is so infinitesimally tiny that it barely exists... Millions will learn and play guitar, many will succeed and rock, many will fail and quit. Many will Djent, but few will shred. Even fewer still will emulate John Petrucci, and out of the many that will succeed, none, if any will nail the phrases flawlessly... Lest you are Andre or JP himself Out of all those levels of Petrucci Guitar Initiation, NO ONE have proven their capabilities quite like you. Like your other 50 Riffs videos, they're just PACKED with flawlessly executed playing, mixing and presentation! You're truly one of a kind and I aspire to play like you someday.. you're in every sense of the word a 'Guitar Hero'. Thanks for the inspiration and badass audio. Peace from Philadelphia!!!!!! -Shane Boynton

However it was nice to hear different solos for once and you played all of them perfectly. And playing The Best of Times was the perfect way to end this video. Probably my all time favorite guitar solo.
