The bigger question is how do you justify changing the laws by saying the game is not exciting enough? Who ever made that sale must be salesman of the century.

The thumbnail, editing and preference in content tells me the URC media team has undergone some transformation. The last few seasons all we got to watch was 3 minutes highlights that missed all the highlights in the game (The irony). Well I am impressed by the quality being served now🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾

Particularly impressive to make it sound like there’s an atmosphere when the stadium is 90% empty

Yup they played 3 Super Rugby finals in a row from 2016-2018. Unfortunately they didn't win a final but they were an exceptional team back then.

The Lions have a culture of turning so called average players from other franchises into stars🎉🎉🎉Love this team. Less complaining from the coaches and only beautiful rugby being coached 😅😅😅
Sanele Nohamba is special. I mean, successful counter-ruck by a fly/scrum-half. And it leads to a try ! Ôo

You can almost feel sorry for the Glasgow guys. When they won that red card decision, they must have believed that they had this one in the bag. Then the Lions woke up! Sorry Glasgow, not sorry! Very proud of the Lions!

Now that there seems to be a firm decision on using the blitz bokke as a Springbok/15's pathway, I think we will see a massive skill jump for most players, especially for the loose fowards.

The 1st half performance couldn’t be worse for the Lions but the second half especially this ten minutes couldn’t be any better! As a Stormers supporter I would be stupid if I thought that a first half performance will hand the final judgement. I am extremely concerned but exited for what the Lions will have to bring here!

People say travelling to the stadium is dangerous as it's in the inner city, but the truth is that most people just don't have the disposable income to go and watch the regular pool games. Nothing to do with the quality of the rugby or the location of the stadium, but rather about how the incompetence of the govt is eroding what's left of the economy.
@shaunk6822

Ellis Park is an area called Doornfontein, and it's really dodgy, even for Joburg. I was a victim of a smash and grab stuck in traffic in that area. You get harassed by 'car guards' also, as the bulk of the parking is on the street. A very unsafe area to wait for Ubers as well.
Awesome stuff. A lot of people immediately think of forward power when South African rugby is mentioned, but I have always associated it with exciting running rugby when the game becomes looser. Well done, Lions, from a Cardiff fan.
According to World Rugby we have to change the laws because the game is boring. They must be out of their minds.

The problem isn't the size of the stadium, it is the rampant crime outside it. People don't want to go watch rigby if they don't know if their car will still be there afterwards. Johannesburg is a bit of a cesspool
@shaunk6822
24 күн бұрын
@@stephanbecker7918 exactly. And the area around Ellis Park is especially dodgy, even for Joburg. Warren Whiteley was held up at gun point on his way to practice
I'm not South African so I don't know the answer to this but why don't they choose smaller stadiums? I'm guessing there were about 15/20000 in there, which is about the crowd of my local team, Leicester...but because of the vast stadium is seems so empty and not too loud etc! Yet, leicester is pumping each weekend!!! The SA teams could create a really hostile cauldron atmosphere with smaller stadiums and be pretty much unbeatable!

Traditionally the unions own these large test stadiums and they rent the suites to businesses on long term leases, which also includes any tests played there. The Lions' Ellispark complex also have a smaller 30k stadium, mainly used for athletics and by the nearby Central Johannesburg College (I assume), but this stadium doesn't have suites, so I suppose it doesn't make financial sense for them to move. Personally I would like to see these games moved out of the Jo'burg CBD to a safer and more accessable area

The TMO looked at it.
After the second try, you have to consider changing how you play. How do you keep getting back foot ball off the kicks and keep kicking? Backline clearly isn’t making any forward progress so why not set up pods and crash the ball up with your forwards? Or am I missing something?(didn’t watch the match)
At 10:40 isn't that a high tackle? Lions played massively! #FightOnLions
JC Pretorius. I really hope this man gets a springbok call up.
Love it! LIIIIOOOONS!
Lions players playing with purpose and enjoying themselves it seems. Whereas the lowly Sharks players cannot get motivated as you might be replaced by someone bought in a heartbeat (especially if the new signings dont have to play to get paid as they have already been). P.S.: I am a Sharks supporter. Also Sanele is a perfect example.
For everyone asking about the stadium crowd numbers, they will increase once the lions become more consistent with these performances. In 2017 when they were the best in the country people went to else park alot i am one of them, but then over time the lions became the worst team in SA based on performances thats when people stopped going to ellis park. They are on the up now as we all can see and they will attract fans again with more consistent performances like this one
They guy who got sent off looked distraught, probably thinking he had just single handedly blown his teams chance of making the playoffs, only for his team to be like 'Hold my Beer'

He immediately knew what was coming as he already had a yellow card earlier. In the end it was a straight red, not a second yellow, then red. No difference to the effect on the game but a massive difference to any bans in the offing
hey, its Morne Steyn! is he Lions' kicking coach? awesome
Stadiums are very quiet - need to advertise the games more! Cheap tickets fill seats!
Lions should start with 14 men, you heard it here first 😜
LIONS !!!!!!
Witness the effect of playing at altitude
fabulous entertainment, the depth of natural SA talent has further strengthened, the legacy of winning 2 RWC on the trot. Meanwhile Welsh RFU is assembling a 38 man committee to decide what brand of loo rolls to buy …..
Sad that the match officials, Ref, TMOs seem to be doing everything in their power to find a reason NOT to award the tries...
The Lions need a smaller stadium like UJ Varsity Cup or Wits Varsity Cup venues. It's safer and can accommodate over 15k fans, stands and open space. Lions management must really consider this, the team plays entertaining rugby 😅😂
Edwil is the next kolbe
JC Pretorius (aka Kwagga Jr.)
For those mentioning how empty it looks, important to remember in South Africa we film away from the sun, meaning that the majority of people sit behind the camera, as it is in the shade. The sections of the stadium shown on camera are almost always in the sun, meaning that very few people book those tickets to avoid cooking in the sun for 2 hours. Also Ellis park will always have the worst attendance due to the crime in the area and the size of the stadium. I would love to see the lions relocate to a smaller stadium in a safer area, but probably not going to happen. Perhaps a concerted effort to redevelop the surrounding area will be the most viable solution. That or a roof over the stadium lol
I just see a bunch of Scottish lads being attacked by Lions

Is Van Der Merwe South African or Scottish? A RSA 'flag' appears by his name in the video yet he represents Scotland at international level.

The main problem for those guys are the altitude. Typically around 60 minutes these guys' lungs start to burn, shouting for some more oxygen.
