I wonder why some disliked the video? I am a Health and Science professional and I study nutrition (MD and Ph.D.). Everything Frederique says is medically supported. LOVED THIS VIDEO. One can watch hundreds of good videos to get the same information. You did it in 16 min. Great content! Thank you. If people can follow that, they would stay fit and healthy. But, here is the catch, it's not easy if you were not raised that way or the food culture around you is not helping at all. Fats and sweets are so addictive... Look a plant-based diet, low impact exercise (walk), hydration, short fasting, small portions, and mindful eating (sit down for food), one glass of wine (except for some diseases, ask your doc.) fast transit time for stool to minimize colon and rectal cancer, positive attitude absolutely supported by the medical community as a healthy lifestyle. Which is exactly what was told here with a French twist, of course, and so much more enjoyable than reading tons of medical literature.

Smith mostly for ecological reasons and because they taste better. Although some people also argue that it is better to eat seasonal food because it's processed better by your body, in relation to the weather and stuff. But really, because fresh fruits that have grown naturally in a field will always be better than fruits artificially grown in a greenhouse with chemicals and stuff. (I still buy mangoes and pineapples tho because they are so good)

Anyone struggling with a few extra COVID pounds - this is a MUST watch! This video taught me how to re-think my body as a whole system. A few of my epiphanies were: drink (mineral) water between meals (much of our food is deficient in minerals due to depleted soils); Winter = soups 2-3 xs per week Summer = salads galore; balance food intake over the course of a week; fasting gives your body time to HEAL (from inflammatory foods we eat - ie. meat and dairy); don't eat in front of the tv; be happy when you eat (not stressed - makes difference in how your body processed the food). This video is a cultural life-changer! Liked, subscribed and I hit the bell! Thank-you.

I’m originally from Argentina...we follow a very European way of living and eating. Nobody snacks..we eat fabulous beef (beef country) grass fed, healthy, vegetables, salads and fruits for dessert. Women take pride in looking good. It is part of the culture. People do enjoy good wines..but there is also an awareness to not overdo it. We have markets that sell fresh hand made pasta and in my family we ate that on Sunday’s. Fresh bread no preservatives etc. I think having to walk everywhere also helps a lot. It is a very different way of life. My mom is 69 and is slim and very fit. She is my inspiration to continue taking care of myself. We live in the US and continue our traditions.

Love this! We lived near Montpellier for six months and I lost weight while eating an almond croissant almost every day. So many things that Madame Bros says are true. We walked every day for at least an hour, exploring the garrigue near our house. At work, everyone stops working at noon and eats together. The lunch is leisurely and lasts until everyone is finished, and there is a lot of laughing and talking. No one eats at their desk alone, and no one snacks during the day. Even getting a coffee is a social thing, and it is strange to go and have a coffee on your own. For sure portions are smaller but the food is good and I was never hungry. I did wonder about the role that stress and the microbiome played in my weight loss. I felt much less stress, and the walks in nature were wonderful. Also, I think that my microbiome changed from eating the local cuisine & cheeses & breads. I definitely did not avoid carbs. I also wonder whether my weight loss was due to drinking mineral water. No one drinks from the tap there and everyone drinks bottled water. The tap water is safe, but culturally everyone drinks mineral water. I wonder if this also plays a role in weight loss. But really, I think the French approach food as a sacred social event. They take their time, they eat only good healthy seasonal food, and they make sure that it is enjoyed (but not in excess). I never saw a French person pass on dessert because they were watching their weight. I love that. I miss my time there. The French know how to live...

Amy Ramsey They don’t eat junk food or fast food or eat all day long like Americans do. They eat healthy whole foods. Junk food and fast food and soda are full of chemicals and empty calories. Many Americans have terrible eating habits, and eat huge portions, They are fat but their nutrition is terrible. That’s why there are so many cases of diabetes and cancer and heart disease. These are lifestyle diseases. It’s mostly the poor who eat this way because junk food is cheap. You rarely see a rich obese person here. They eat well and exercise and do the right things for their health.

Take time to eat, is what I recall why, the food is chewed properly, the full feeling has time to develop, all that chewing and taking ones time allows for more stomach acid concentration, this allows to maintain a fast digestion and metabolism. Just that in itself let alone good music and socialization gives one good health, good energy levels.

You are spot on about all of this! I’m American and with my ex we would eat such huge meals! I realized that when I was little and my family was financially struggling we had a very similar way of eating to the French. We never had junk food in the house, ate fresh veggies and fruit for snacks and dessert, and my favorite meal was a small bowl of pinto beans for dinner or oatmeal 😂 I was so thin eating simply. As I’m older I am trying to get back to eating smaller portions and re-incorporating fruits and veggies. This has helped regulate bathroom breaks... I would go 4+ days without #2. You start to feel sick, sluggish, and like your body is breaking down. Now my current partner and I split meals, eat small portions, and encourage staying active. It gets better a little bit everyday. Even 15-30 minutes of barre work everyday helps.

I'm Canadian too, and I think that a large part of why we don't walk as much is due to the weather extremes. It's just not practical to walk 20-30 minutes each way for groceries when the weather is -15°C for the winter and +30°C in the summer, with rain in between. Plus if you have kids (I have 8) you can't carry it all. I suggest that you find a few workout styles that you enjoy and can do at home! I love to bike, but when the weather is crummy I do TRX workouts, dance workouts, lift weights and do bodyweight tabatas. I am an average size, but healthy. Cook your own food, exercise at home, and you'll feel like your best self again in very little time :)

Yes in America is believed that you should have to loosen your belt after a meal and is even a common practice among men. It's disgusting. as children were brought up to think that we should eat everything off of our plate before we can get up from the table even though the portions given to us were most likely an adult size. It comes from generations of not knowing anything about food and nutrition. Our parents and our country contribute heavily to the fatness.

That's funny. I was based in France for many years, but spent one year in Minneapolis as my husband was offered a job there. Coming from Europe, it struck me that so many people in Minneapolis were eating on the move, either holding a burger or a sandwich walking in the streets or on public transport and it's very common to see people walking around holding a cup of coffee or a huge drink cup. This is something your rarely see in Europe. The meal (or even a coffee break) is seen as a social thing done between people and if you live in a family, you almost always eat at fixed times and always together.

Over a year and a half, I have lost 56 pounds. One of the things I do is cook the vast majority of my meals at home with fresh ingredients. If a friend wants to go out to lunch with me, I will just have coffee for breakfast, eat half of what is on my plate at the restaurant, then have a soft boiled egg (I love eggs!) with toast for dinner. I prefer to have friends come to my house for a luncheon because I can control the menu. I'll make quiche and a green salad and serve mixed fruit for desert, for example. I'll use a nice tablecloth, silver, and the good china to make it special.

It’s just not impressed here like it is in other countries which also happen to be healthier and slimmer. It’s a complex psychological issue I’ve come to address in my Therapeutic Eating program - and largely a huge part of that mission has been influenced by that first trip to Bordeaux.

Those were great tips! I grew up in Israel, where there is plenty of fresh fruits but we eat A LOT, But the food is high quality and fresh, and we cook with lots and lots of herbs. There is also every fruit and vegetable under the sun. I noticed that when I moved to Canada I gained so much weight so quickly, and I think it’s because the food is so modified, and way more processed. It took me a while to go back to cooking the way I grew up eating, and the weight fell off. I have to say that Saying no to wine and chocolate everyday is hard because I love wine and sweets, but that’s what we have to do. Also, I found that doing excercise daily really helps, even if it’s just 20 minutes of yoga. In the past I thought that I had to kill myself in the gym to see results, but now I understand the consistency is more important than overworking yourself, and then not wanting to work out again for another week. The same thing goes with food, being consistent is more important than eating lots and then doing a diet.

I’m not sure where in Canada you are living but we have access to every fruit and vegetable under the sun. Readily available and I shop every day to cook dinner. Unless you are in a very isolated area I simply cannot understand why you can’t find what you need.

@@LinA-it9vd I didn’t say that I couldn’t find fruits and vegetables… I said that the food here is way more modified and processed than in other parts of the world. Also, the quality of the produce is very different when it’s locally grown and when it’s imported. Canada imports a tone of its produce, especially in the winter.

@@irinalektser4706 I disagree if anything the imported fruit is better than most we get locally grown. The only exception I have found is peaches and strawberries. Ours are superior to anywhere else in the world grown in season. We have green hothouses that grow vegetables year round.

And it's literally in everything. If it isn't, industries use corn syrup instead 😒 Not even to mention Monsanto foods, garbage preservatives pumped into everything (even canned beans, so you literally have to get organic, no option), "meat culture" where it's recommended by the government to eat meat and dairy (because meat industry pays government. Monsanto does the same, too, btw), etc. ALL contributing to disease, which makes millions/billions/trillions for FDA every year. And the fact there is ONE industry for both Food and Drugs just says it all right there.

Yes it sucks! It’s completely unnecessary and disturbing how many products it’s in. Along with soy- I notice a lot of European sweets and crackers contain soy as well. Soy is terrible for both male and female hormones especially female it promotes imbalanced hormones and low fertility. Damn the FDA!

I am actually the same weight as I was in my 20's before my two sons were born. I also hate exercise but I do enjoy yoga and walking. I think exercise is like cleaning. You don't have to love it, but it has to get done.

I’m an American man but I still found this video a great watch-so much common sense. No fads or tricks, just a healthy, balanced approach to life. I’ve only been to France once, but I so admired the French approach to living, eating, culture. They take living well very seriously. It’s a priority not just marketing or trend watching. The fasting is interesting. That’s relatively new here in America. When I first heard about it, as a Texas boy, I thought it sounded insane. But more Americans are learning about it, including me, and it’s catching on in popularity. Thank you for the French wisdom!

Thank you for sharing this insight. I agree. I have chosen intermittent fasting (16:8) with a low quantity (but quality farm reared) meat up to 3x per month, fish 3x per week and largely plant based. Look up the Blue Zone diet! I avoid technology and electronics where I can and move throughout the day. Gratitude based meditation and yoga in the evening. My favourite snack is a square of 85% dark chocolate and a small glass of red wine.

I did not find French cuisine particularly healthy or well -balanced when I was on a cultural exchange many years ago although Europeans in general eat more fruits and vegetables. I believe the main reason the French and other Europeans are generally slimmer is that they do not all own cars therefore they walk more and take public transit or prefer to cycle to work or school. North American lifestyles are dependent upon the car. Also, North Americans snack between meals, Europeans do not do so.

Hello from NorthEast USA. My husband and I have been doing intermittent fasting for weeks now. However, we are just recently improving our diet. We definitely need to be more active. I am 5'5" and about 245 lbs. Years of damage done to my body because it was a way for me to insulate myself from trauma and low self esteem. I have a long way to go. I'm tired of being heavy, exhausted and in pain all the time. I only eat from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and fast from 7p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. I'm 42 years old and I really want to know what it's like to be lean and limber.
