This is textbook "confident beam work"! I wish other gymnasts could have a flow to their routines but it's probably difficult because of all the very difficult skills, which seem to necessitate a pause before starting. US College gymnastics has a lot of beam routines with beautiful flow and execution (their difficulty standard is lower). There are a number of college girls or graduates competing here today! Sandra Elsadek (EGY), Aleah Finnegan (PHI), Anya Pilgrim (BAR), Lynnzee Brown (HAI), Leanne Wong, Skye Blakely, Kayla DiCello (alt) (USA), Luisa Blanco (COL)! There are quite a few college gymnasts among the men at worlds as well!

Love this routine. She did amazing. Its so different from most with skills and choreography. 🥰👍👍👍

Die souveränste Balkenübung, die ich jemals von ihr gesehen habe. Was für ein tolles, abwechslungsreiches und spannendes Programm! Dagegen könnte ich bei den Übungen von Sanne Wevers mit ihren ständigen Drehungen links / rechts einfach nur einschlafen. Die ist zum Glück nicht mehr dabei, dafür Pauline. Ich drücke dir die Daumen, dass du noch einmal alles so perfekt auf den Punkt geturnt bekommst, wie bei dieser Übung. Und wenn dabei noch eine Medaille für DICH rausspringt, umso besser. Du hättest es alle Male verdient.

Fourth one. Simone and Shilese also scored over 14 and Jess Gadirova got a 14, which counts in my book. This score puts Pauline in 2nd, just barely ahead of Shilese.

@@aliciamcdonald7105they really are, especially with Zhang Qingying also coming in with a 14.100. The top six contenders all got scores of 14.000 or higher, so I’m hoping for a much more exciting final than last year. Edit: Top 7, actually. Ashikawa Urara also scored a 14.000. So, we’ve got Simone Biles (14.533/6.3 D), Zhou Yaqin (14.500/6.4 D), Zhang Qingying (14.100 6.3 D), Pauline Schaefer-Betz (14.066/5.8 D), Shilese Jones (14.033/5.9 D), Jessica Gadirova (14.000/5.8 D), Ashikawa Urara (14.000/5.9 D), and Rebeca Andrade (13.800/5.9 D). And if the 2 PC rule didn’t exist, Ou Yushan would be qualified between Schaefer and Jones with another 14.066 (6.3 D), and we’d have a final where no qualifier scored below a 14.000.

Pauline has to have the best, most involved, most consistently themed routine or the open code era. (The theme, as far as I can tell, is murderous witch, and it’s great.)

I love this gymnast. I struggle to describe her place in elite gym. Hard to call her underrated because she has an amazing medal record as a specialist, but she is just so excellent and is maybe....underappreciated?

@@kyleswingle5844 agreed! Her eponymous skill is undervalued in the Code of Points though. (Warning: tangent about stuff you probably already thought of incoming) It’s a side somersault with a half twist, and it’s only rated E. On paper, that might make sense, since you’re taking a D skill and adding a half twist to it. But that’s not how it works on beam. The additional half twist creates a blind landing, and the gymnast is already somersaulting sideways! Plus, the regular back somersault is a C, while the Arabian, which only adds a half twist, is an F. I think that the Schaefer salto is at least as difficult as the Arabian or the full-twisting back tuck. It should be at least an F, but I think that you could argue that it should be a G. Then again, the full-twisting back layout to two feet should be an H, not a G, because the back layout to two feet is an E. After all, the regular back tuck is a C, and the full-twisting back tuck is an F. That’s just the most logical progression. Plus, the two footed back layout is two tenths more valuable than the back tuck, so that full-twisting back layout to two feet should also be two tenths more valuable than the full-twisting back tuck. Following that logic, the full-twisting back layout mount should be an I. Currently, it’s rated G, the same as the regular acro skill on the beam, which is stupid and inconsistent, but mount values are inconsistent anyway. Normally, it’s only the front tumbling skills are weirdly (and wrongly, IMO) valued the same as mounts as they are when they’re acro skills done on the beam. (Seriously, though the front tuck mount should be an E, and the front pike mount should be an F. Currently, the front tuck mount is valued the same as a switch leap mount, and the front pike mount is valued the same as a LOSO mount, despite the fact that almost all gymnasts looking for a valuable mount would pick the switch leap over the front tuck and the LOSO over the front pike.) And of course, the Biles Dismount should be a J because the current dismount progression for the back double tuck dismounts is back double tuck (D) -> full-twisting back double tuck (G) -> double-twisting back double tuck (H), and that’s insane. So, yes, Pauline is super under appreciated as a beam queen, and I think that a big reason for that is that her D score is factually never as high as it should be because her eponymous skill is so egregiously undervalued.

It is heartening that the technical committee took the advice of the Americans when evaluating the Biles II. Maybe some more nudging is in order, though the current values are such a mess.

@@kyleswingle5844 oh, I agree that the switch leap mount is justly rated D. I’d just raise the value on the front tuck mount and the front pike mount by one letter each. The great mount upgrade of 2017 was a good idea and brought back beam mounts; I just want the upgrades to be more consistent.

She qualified in second place so she must be doing something right. I'm saying this as the eighth subdivision is still qualifying, so maybe China or France has someone who has a higher score.

Beautiful Bb work, I hate the dismount. It killed all her work. She is clean, gorgeous movement, elegant. But dismount 😢

Her dismount is deceptively simple but extremely hard to do without major deductions.

There is nothing but arm waving in this routine. I will never understand her getting the least artistry deductions T WORLDS LAST YEAR

@@sketchers987 Unitards and shorts as options for women only just got approved in 2021. Because gymnasts told FIG they wanted the option of competing in something more covered up than leotards. So far, the only girls to have unitards as a team are the Germans. There's a Muslim gymnast in US college (Fisk iirc) who also wears one.

You're welcome to your opinion, but most of us love the unitards! 💜 Saying something should be banned because you don't like it aesthetically is.. well, it's a thing you can say I guess. A particularly bad look when some women wear unitards so that they don't have to show so much skin.

Please wear a normal leotard!🥴
