A few months ago I stumbled across this page by accident. I watched several and was fascinated. My Dad was a locksmith (late 40's to 62 when he died, I was 8 then) and I loved watching him work on a lock and also make keys. He had a large box truck from the locksmith company with thousands of key blanks and tools. His tools are lost to time as I was too young to have them. You inspired me to try it out in my old age (68) so I bought a beginners kit off of amazon and spent about a half hour practicing on the see through padlock. Just for giggles I grabbed an old Master padlock #3 I have had for years. I picked it in less than 30 seconds the first time. You sir, have created a monster! ;) Thanks for convincing me to connect just a bit to my Dad, 59 years later.

Been following LPL for 6 months, and my children and I can now pick Master locks. Love the content. I'm a criminal lawyer (hold the jokes) and wanted to chime in that in 20 years of practice I have never once had a lockpicking case. I've had crowbars, bricks, people cutting through tar roofs, people cutting through drywall, people hiding in bathrooms until the store closes, people stealing codes from management, safes opened with jackhammers or backhoes . . . everything you can imagine except lock picks. Which means one of two things . . . either none of the lock pickers get caught, or nobody does it. I think it's the latter, and I just can't imagine why given that my 11 year old could now empty the average self-storage unit.

It's important to remember that the LPL is literally one of, if not the single greatest expert at defeating locks on the planet right now. It's highly unlikely that he's going to show up at your place and try to get inside. The real question is what level of security are you comfortable with since nothing is totally secure. The LPL does us all a great service by identifying the crap from the so-so to the satisfactory to the good to the great. It's our jobs to pick what we can stand to use.

As long as you have a small understanding as to how locks work, the most average person can unlock a lock with a pick in a few mins or less. It has been proven over and over with a little bit of showing you how a person can pick open a lock. There is a good example on I think it might have been CBC about locksmiths. Showing the news person how to pick a lock open and then calling a locksmith who then says he can not pick a lock and needs to drill. The lady could pick the lock in about 30 seconds. Now I am not saying that someone can pick this lock that fast it might take them a few mins yet Its very possible that they will get it. If the LPL can pick a lock so can we all. It just might take longer.

Grease is simply oil in a soap-like carrier so it won't drain away. The carrier is resistant to movement to keep the oil in place. Grease is not really suitable for situations where there are lightweight parts that must move freely, being moved by very small forces. I submit that a pinned lock (of any sort) is just such a place; clockwork is another.

There is no finer entertainment to be had than a craftsman plying his trade! If L.P.L. is as masterful in his law practice as he is educating the masses about locks he is a force to be reckoned with! That coming from the guy who was smart and married an attorney!

He got out of law practice to sell lockpicking tools. And he's so good at educating and inspiring that I bought a handful of locks to learn on. I can do masterlock 40d, masterlock 1 (made in milwuakee) and a bunch of little brass ones. So far no luck on American Lock, but maybe one day I can develop the necessary feel and skill. It's a lot of fun when the locks open. Sometimes it's even a surprise
