    You can also be getting water in your fuel at the diesel fuel pump if they use underground fuel storage like most fuel stations, The simplest way to control water at fuel pump if it's in an above ground tank is to drain the water off. But many fuel station can't do that, especially if they use underground fuel storage.

    Good on you for the fuel cap o-rings I thought about them this morning. I'd let the biocide sit while you're on vacation so the algae doesn't continue to grow. You don't have to completely remove the tank plugs, just crack them enough so it drains, or you may have one heck of a mess on your hands. Unless you're low enough and have enough fuel on hand to make it to refuel with fresh fuel. If 1-2 weeks go by and there's no results, I'd consider having the tanks drained cleaned and flushed. Maybe consider doing it while you're on vacation so you're not tying up the truck on the road, or have to head home or find someone on the road to do it.

    perfect time to work on draining the fuel tanks, after your vacation and the truck has not moved or has been running.all the sediment and water should have settled to the bottom of the tanks. a clean 5 gallon bucket to drain the tanks.(cut a 5 gal bucket down if its to close to the tank to get your hand in there to pull the pug) the plug should be a pipe fitting tread , meaning its tappered and the harder you tighten it the more it will seal.( so dont over tighten it) you can use pipe tape if it makes you feel better, it is probably not needed. especially if you have owned the truck for the last 14 yrs and they have never been taken out. enjoy your vacation, we enjoy your channel, kali dog is going to miss her youtube time.

    Two things: #1 the places you fuel at have a reputation for nasty fuel, is water in them. #2 empty tanks condensate water faster than full tanks. While the rubber orings might be a problem, I think unlikely unless they get torn as long as you tighten them adequately every time you fuel. That is a mechanic's point of view. I also drove flatbeds for years as well

    It can also make a difference depending on the weather and what time of the day you fill up.Driving in England and Europe I was told to fill up in the morning when it was cooler as the moisture in the underground tanks had settled. Diesel bug,as it's called in NZ,can be treated with a biociyde agent but be prepared to use up a few filters.Hope you can sort out the problem and have a good holiday. ☺☺🚛💨👍

  • @captgary278

    It looks to me as if you got an algae bloom, we get that shipboard when water remains in the tanks. I was concerned when you said you dont fill your tanks to earn credits. Any space above the fuel will collect condensate as temperature varies. Best advice has been given; look in the tanks if possible, open the drains at the tank bottom to remove any water and sediment. If you run low on fuel on a bumpy road you can suck up crud into the pickup tubes which should be about 2" from the bottom. Good Luck, enjoy the vacation and compliments on a beautiful daughter.

    hi dan, every time you park your truck, the fuel cools and sucks in moisture via the breather, causing condensation in the feul tanks. this helps the algae to thrive. if you fill up every night before you park it leaves no or little space for air to get in. hope this helps. like your show. thanks.

    A few years ago, we had a problem similar to yours on a 2005 Columbia, Detroit. We put the same bio stuff in our truck......over and over and over. ( I kept telling my boss to send a sample to Auburn and have the fuel analyzed) Drained the tanks, cleaned the tanks, etc. still gumming the filters. Finally had the fuel analyzed and it was coming from the vendor that we used. ( We are a 100 mile radius plus outfit) One of those "fuel only" outfits next to the paper milll in Prattville Alabama. Stopped putting their fuel in the truck and the problem mysteriously disappeared.

    If water is a problem my bet it's condensation in the tanks from not filling them up. Those shower credits are costing you money. *Here is a quote from web* "Diesel tanks have a tendency to attract algae if the tank is allowed to sit for an extended period of time without being filled. This is partially due to the nature of diesel fuel." *A little more detail* "There is one simple rule when it comes to microbial growth in a diesel fuel tank - it cannot exist without the presence of water. There are a number of ways water can enter a tank. Dry rotted seals, corroded orifices, and moist/humid air entering the tank on filling or inspection are the most common ways water is introduced. Aside from the damaging side effects water can have on an engine, its components, and the tank, free water found at the bottom of a tank is a breeding ground for microbial growth. The microbes live between the water and the fuel, feeding off of the fuel while living in the water. As the bloom grows, it binds with other forms of fuel contamination, such as particulate, rust, and dirt, to form sludge. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the bloom has an acidic byproduct, promoting tank corrosion." I hope this tells you that you should fill up those tanks, I don't know how much showers are but the cost of repair seems like more.

    Water comes fom service stations tanks or by condension, if cab is on there is njot going so much water even on truck wash that it makes problems. And that sediment and black things are coming from ethanol in diesel attleast here in Finland, before having 100 % diesel was never groving something in tank.

    have u ever replaced ur crossover lines since u bought the truck? when i had mine i had to-cause they started to break apart from the inside. that algae in the wintertime freezes to little black balls. when i ran a cat-D-10 dozer our company bought some cheap fuel, we had all kind of problems from it. they finally bought some of that stuff like u got-only they got it in 5 gal cans. the primary filter on it was just a metal screen, when i would tap it on the hood-all them little black balls would roll out. lol. had to change and clean those filters for a solid week-till we got it cleaned up. if u didn't shut the motor off soon enough-then u had to crack the injector lines to get it started again. get that stuff taken care of right away-or it;s gonna cost ya big bucks. have a nice vacation-ok

    It's not "true" algae but bacterial microbes. Rather than me trying to explain it go to bellperformance.com. In a nutshell your PH balance is off in your fuel tanks probably due to high ambient air temp. and humidity in your tanks. You need a conditioner to counteract the acidic value in your tank. Hope this helps.

  • @Chuck59ish
    @Chuck59ish7 жыл бұрын

    Part of the problem could be your 50-gallon fillups, you'll get condensation in the tanks from the cold fuel and the warm metal of the tanks, along with the algae. Seems the low sulphur diesel is causing the same problems as the E85 Ethanol fuels.

Water is commonly used to keep the storage tanks from floating to surface in areas where the underground water table is high.

    Only just found your channel but see you are having fuel/water problems. The only question I have for you regards the problem is - are you filling your tanks at the end of the day to prevent condensation forming in the top of the tank and falling back into the fuel?
