I see very super that at my beginning of playing clarinet my cats went always away - and now I play and my dear cat sleeps.

High tongue position for me was a game changer. Understanding that meant I finally managed to reach altissimo after so many years.

You managed to put into words all the things I learned over many many years but I never dedicated the time to them like you, which is why I think you sound great and your are an amazing teacher. I’m still working on my scales, timing and rhythm. I’ll be in touch again with you for sure.

Great thoughts! I always make sure to teach my clarinet students about the left and right B, C, and C# fingerings. Also, my professor in college (on saxophone) would also make the "hiss" analogy for the high tongue position, just like a cat. He would lift his hands up like paws and make the "hhhhh" sound. How fitting for clarinet, cats, and coffee

I'm so glad for this video. One main reason was because I used to tongue from the roof of my mouth. No one ever taught me how to do it. 18 Years later of just 'figuring it out' I realised that I'm on the reed (yay) but need to use the tip of my tongue. I use the middle of my tongue (anchor tonguing I think it's called). Genuinely pleased to know that I'm not alone in tonguing on the roof of my mouth!

Thank you for your excellent videos and sharing your Clarinet secrets!!! I’ve personally started playing double ups for two years and then my new teacher change me over to single app and I could play for longer after two weeks so my experience has been the opposite but I have what you say about biting. I very much like your clarinet sound and I know you like the Yamaha instruments But I suspect you sound good on whatever makes you proud thank you so much God bless you - Bill. UK

My biggest help from my teacher was having the right muscles engaged for my embochure, which helped with my airflow. It also helped me to be more inquisitive and experiment with words/sounds that help keep my face in shape! Thank you for the insight!

Amazing depth of coverage of super important issues! You are just the clarinet guru i ve been looking for. Where could i get a teeth guard? Is an Albert scale linked to the Albert system? I ve had trouble with sustaining the instrument so a Yamaha must be tried out.

New subscriber, having just discovered your channel a week or two ago. For me becoming more sensitive to tone, listening to long notes, and small upgrades to my mouthpiece and ligature have helped improve my clarinet playing. You have made some good suggestions about embouchure which I shall try out.

Since you mentioned the Albert[system], there s an interesting surprise awaiting...the players in Turkey and Greece use G clarinets with the Albert system. They have over 80 modes that include microtones. I heartily recommend for opening a huge vista, to watch Erdenaj Şenlendirici a child prodigy playing the G clarinet. I think he may be better than his father Hüsnü Şenlendirici. I d appreciate some comments about Erdenaj s playing. Just curious to hear Western clarinetists' impressions...i m looking forward to widen the Clarinet World with this important component[ the use if the G clarinet in microtonal modal music].

Yes! the first one, tonguing...took me one month to correct it! So annoyed by that "Kuh Kuh" sound... When I finally learned to tongue properly, the clean articulation made me so proud and happy

I have never held a clarinet in my hands. Watching your video and hearing how beautiful your tones are, I am curious to learn how to play clarinet. I am 61 years old. Is it possible to learn from scratch at this age?

Absolutely!! I don't think clarinet is hard to get started on. Just find a teacher to get you started with the right technique and practice every day. Pretty soon you'll be playing all kinds of fun stuff!
