6:55 You will probably find it very confusing but in Germany it is forbidden to wash eggs! Because eggs have a natural protective film that protects them from the air and bacteria. This protective film is destroyed when you wash them. That is why eggs do not need to be refrigerated. In other countries this is different. There you wash the eggs at the producer and therefore they must be cooled all the time.

Well there are about 155 million native German speakers so the effort of dubbing stuff into German is more lucrative for companies than many other languages. Also because we have such a long tradition of dubbing dubbs are usually very high quality and more known actors even have a dedicated dubbing voice, so they will sound the same in every movie they star in

Afaik all streaming services let you select the language of a movie after you started it via an options menu. At least I‘m using this often when the German dub misses a joke or a cultural reference, so I can hear what the author intended. 🙂 And I don‘t know where this dubbing culture comes from, but perhaps shortly after the war in Germany nobody was really speaking english. So perhaps to make movies more accessible they were dubbed. I personally like the dubs most of the time, because sometimes the original actors voice is somehow buried in the overall sound and for me it‘s distracting to read the english subtitles while following the story. So sometimes when the German translations is bad and the English sound is bad, too, I switch on the English subtitles, because the German subtitles are often not a literal translation. They are sometimes not even the same as the German dub. 😉 And for me, at least for the movies I watch, the dubs are mostly synchronized to the lip movement. So there may be some words and phrases that are obviously different like „no“ and „nein“, but overall the German dubbing industry tries their best to translate and dub the original that it comes close to the original actors lip movements. But I also try to look in the eyes of the actor. 😉 And even if an escape from prison is not punishable it still has consequences if a prisoner helps others to escape (that‘s illegal), if he/she commits crimes while escaping or out of prison and of course a prisoner has to still serve his/her sentence to the end with now only a very little chance of early release.

About the breaking out of prison being legal: that only applies if you do that without doing anything unlawful while breaking out. So no hitting officers or breaking a glass or a lock or taking anything but yourself with you (stealing). If you are used to the OV, dubbing is pretty much annoying, but you get used to it. That you don't get punished escaping, is just theoretically. In most cases you get indirectly punished, f.e. for theft (keys or the clothing), mayhem, property damage, black mail,... If you got someone to help (or encourage) you, this person might join you in prison for up to five years. (I wonder, how this topic came up to you.) Breaking out of prison is no crime, BUT using false papers/documents, damaging bars, bribing or hurting, intimidating guards, ... are crimes and that means that you are in more trouble than before when you catch you again. And as lots if not most prisoners are released before they have served all of their sentence if they behave well and show signs of positive development (reintegration/resocialisation...) it is foolish to risk that chance. All in all the number of convicts that try to escape or simply do not return from periods of time that they are allowed to spend outside the prison walls as part of their resocialisation schemes is low.

imagine German parades with German flags on national holidays. I’m certain, 90% of the world’s press would say: see, the German Nazi is arising again… We have a very different concept of national pride today due to our past that we still very actively work through today. Our national holiday is the 3rd of October, which celebrates reunification. It is a political day which focuses on the lost years of a separated East and West Germany and thus, is a lot more solemn that gung-ho - let’s party!…

the reason for so many dubs lays in our history. It isn't that common to speak proper English. 20-30 Years ago a big part of Germans don't speak much English, and so they dubbed everything, and it changed in a big industry. These days we can speak English, but we are used to it.

@rashomon351 Жыл бұрын
Dubbing sucks. It takes away a big part of the actors expression and art, like intonation, play on word and puns, vocal acting and even accent. Most of the times, dialogs doesn't even make sense anymore because they need to be changed to better fit lip sync. And you're absolutely correct: why, Amazon prime, aren't you offering the OV versions of your content (or at least so rarely), just like Netflix ? Why is Netflix able to offer both and you aren't ? Don't tell me it's because of those media industry pimps - legally called "Rechteverwerter". You're buying from the same pimps as Netflix does.
@Marcel_Germann Жыл бұрын
The escape itself is not punishable, but damaging anything or injuring people for or during the escape is punishable. So to get an unpunishable escape all personel has to vanish, and all doors need to be open. Which will actually never happen. The national holiday is nothing special, just when East Germany officially joined the Federal Republic. But there were other days that were important too. For example June 17th 1953, uprising in East Germany, that was national holiday in West-Germany before, also called "Day of German reunification" before. I remember in 1990 we had both holidays, the June 17th and October 3rd. I was a student back then. And I liked it, no school on these days. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_German_uprising_of_1953

Just commenting so much to trigger the algorithm a little bit
Nope even Germans who are somewhat capeable of the English language tend to prefer everything in English. It goes thus far that I'm watching shows from Thailand which English subtitles even if they have German subtitles once in a blue moon...I guess people under 40-50 just got "used to it."
The thing that upset you, was it the dubbing of movies. 🤣🤣🤣 It was so hard to tell. 🙃🙃🙃

@@elisesbubble Yes, it was just a joke.
escaping prison is NOT legal, but it is not punished, because we see the wish to be free as a human instinct and if they manage to escape prison, the fault was with the prison design or personnel…
the reason for so many dubs lays in our history. It isn't that common to speak proper English. 20-30 Years ago a big part of Germans don't speak much English, and so they dubbed everything, and it changed in a big industry. These days we can speak English, but we are used to it.

You should be dubbed, too
Dubbing is expensive and it does not pay off if you are a smaller country. German is the most spoken language in the EU after english. Bad thing is, Germans are no so good in english as others.

"German is the most spoken language in the EU after English"... that's presented a bit strangely. More people speak Finnish than English in the EU, as Ireland has only 5.06 million inhabitants. Presumably most EU residents speak English as a second language.

Yeah true:) A reason why is probably because they just watch dubbed movies🤷♀️

There are only 10 million people in Hungary and all movies are dubbed. A lower percentage of Hungarians than Germans speak English. My cable TV service offers an original language option on about half the channels.
It's the whole point of a prison in the first place to keep prisoners in. That's why you build it! Not my fault if they're bad at their job.

Not celebrating the German National Day (3rd of October, "Tag der Deutschen Einheit")?? That’s nonsense. Well, we’re not celebrating it as enthusiastic as aMuricans (as the "United States of Germany" are only existing since 1991).

The dubbing is one of the things that drives me nuts, whenever my anglophonically challenged in-laws comment on the acting in a film I get exceedingly annoyed because they *can't* have an opinion on that, only on the abysmally annoying dub... Best regards Raoul G . Kunz
