That is not true. Šalina is rarely called šála or šmirgl. Drak - dragon is name for the latest local type of šalina. The same as at the begining of the video.

Brno! I’m Hungarian from Slovakia, but during Communist Czechoslovak times my grandad studied at University in Brno during the 60s, to this day he talks about how it’s a great and pretty city; with even better beer (he says he can’t remember half of his studies for that reason 😅) Love to see it on the channel 👍🏼

Talking about Hungarians I recently visited Budapest (for the fifth time). I have to tell, your capital is my favorite city in Europe! (I love Prague too, but Budapest's vibes is closer to me) Every time I there something amaze me. The food is superior, the cultural life sparkling, nice people, interesting badass history, alien language. But you have to know the city, or you have to get a Hungarian friend to fully enjoy that city because the lots of hidden gems. I was lucky because my brother studied there. I hope Honest Guide will make a vlog about it soon.

Brno (as my friend called it): "City where is nothing, but also nothing is missing."
During my travel to Czech Republic, i went to Brno and i liked it very much! It is a great place to discover Czech's culture, food, people... but without the crowd and tourist traps that are present in Prague.
Brno is not a city, it is a Lifestyle, arrived here almost 4 years ago and everyday there is a new adventure

Brno has a very special place in my heart. I did my Erasmus there, stayed in the city for 5 months. So many unforgettable experiences, so many friendships made. I've visited Brno in September 2020, next to Teplice and other sights Czech Republic has to offer. Brno was so much more relaxed compared to Prague (which I've visited pre- and during the pandamic). Excellent public transport and just a clean and beautiful city. Some plan to do a '2nd cities tour' and I highly recommend Brno to be on that list! Good prices, ambience, nice people and hospitality! Ps. Don't flood Brno with tourists, it's really nice and quiet compared to Prague, because it's the 2nd city 😜

Why is it nice? You are literally serving people for your job, its pretty low social status, i mean its not a janitor but its still not something to be proud of.
I spent my first Erasmus exchange in Brno in 2013. I truly fell in love with the city and people, visited several villages around the city too. I then visited the city in 2018 when already on my work trip in Vienna. It felt like going back home when getting off the train at Hlavni Nadrazi! Grateful for all the memories and good times I had there. Thank you for the video!
You should expand your coverage of Czechia. from Pec pod snezkou to Lipno nad Vltavou, Plzen to Ostrava. Czech is beautiful and driving around is a bless.

Thanks to your previous video about Brno, I decided to visit for a long weekend and I did not regret it. It's a beautiful and lovely city and well worth a visit. My personal highlight was Villa Tugendhat, a modernist style architectural masterpiece by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
You forgot to mention that it was in Brno that Gregor Mendel did his work that demonstrated the basics of what we now know as Mendelian Genetics, with his experiments on crossing pea plants in the monastery garden there. One can visit an interesting museum there. As a former professor of biology I took a bus from Vienna to Brno just to be at this historic place! Also, well worth the ride through the countryside between these two cities!

Very nice piece of information, I'd like to visit myself. I had no idea that Mendel was in Brno as an active scientist (yet a monk).
I am currently living in Brno this summer while I intern at one of the many universities and I have very much enjoyed my time here. Great video!
I have a soft spot for Brno. My very first Czech language teacher teaches at Masaryk University.
Love this city, i come every couple of months and it is the best.
Aight, you sold me the city. I'm definitely visiting Brno!
I felt weird throughout whole the video, it looks so ... bright... for Brno. Then I noticed you managed to avoid the main train and bus stations that make the initial "welcome to Brno" a completely different experience :D

I remember entering Brno by taking the train from Boskovice. The station was surrounded by Vietnamese street vendors. A dead end corridor below the station was also completely filled with merchandise and it would mean certain death if a fire broke out there. The train and bus stations are indeed a stark contrast with the rest of the city.
Been in Brno several times. Really recommend the small coffee/tea/beer place right at the top, in front of castle's bridge/entrance. Very cozy and honest place, cheap/moderate prices
I spent 4 months between Brno and Olomouc. I really loved them both!
Love this city! Been there in Erasmus and it holds a special place in my heart

brno is the best town on earth, miss living there so much!
so looking forward for my husband and I to visit Brno next month !! Thanks for the video and the tips Janek & Honza.
Brno was my home for 3 years (before and during COVID) and what a quality of life there!!! Really miss it!!!
That trick of reading the clock is word for word what a resident of Brno told me 😂 Last time I visited I’ve had a forgettable evening in a bar that doesn’t exist (forgettable because of a little bit too much alcohol maybe slightly yes) and I’ve enjoyed the vibe in the city since 1994, it truly is a wonderful place on earth. Gastronomical the city has grown to be a pearl as well (back in the nineties I can remember it was more basic potato and meat and vegetables, and the local McDonalds was bombed with red paint - which now I understand more than I did as a kid), and I also absolutely loved the murals on the walls throughout the city. The old Sovjet era commercial murals. West of the city there is a nice lake, a hilly forest and a (quite famous) race track so the greater area has something to offer for everyone.
Nothing better to end a day of European travel than watching Honest Guide. Janek and Honza are amazing. Keep up the great work guys!!!
This was amazing. You can tell it’s put together with a lot of thought and love!
You guys are a credit to your country.keep up the great work.god bless from UK .
I'm going to Brno for the first time in a few weeks, so this video was perfect timing. I can't wait!
Yay! I did a year of study abroad and a semester of student teaching in Brno. I saw a glimpse of Bar that doesn't exist, which is also an important place the locals like to talk about. There's also a lot of really good food places with inexpensive lunch menus, since Brno is a huge student town.
I was in Brno in 1985. Would visit it one more time - gladly.
I will definitely visit Brno next time I go to Czech, I can't wait! Keep more videos like this coming!
So happy you did a video about Brno, I was there many times and I love this city. The people are nice, there is a feeling of a young, lively cultural city but at the same time very laid back and authentic. There are lots of breweries in Brno, obviously your sponsor is easily the biggest one, I personally loved Pegas brewery (and restaurant if one is hungry) with the massive copper cauldrons right in the middle of it. It's a good thing many find it boring - they can go to Prague, haha
I totally love this city, I studied at VUT as an exchange student, which was my best time in my life so far
... well, on the one hand, I´m glad that you are showcasing Brno (my city!), but on the other hand ... we do not want to be like Prague, with too many tourists, too many traps and scams, a "dead city". We are living here and want to keep it a little bit for ourselves if you understand ;)?
You are a such promother for your country! Great job! When I was visiting Prag I do "my homework" - watched your videos and I was a tour guide for my friends, as some kind of locals! 😀

I MISS BRNO so much after seeing this video. Took the Starobrno tour, it was great! Miss the smell of the beer brewing in the air in cold weather. I miss the squeal of the trams as they go by. I miss the gritty and the glamorous sides of Brno. I miss the small zoo, collection of animals, outside of town, by our apartment. I miss the fun waitress at the restaurant we loved.
