125. Which scroll saw blade makes the best cut?

This video is for beginning scroll saw users. Experienced scrollers will probably not find any new information here.
In this video, I will be cutting 4 straight lines using 4 different scroll saw blades on 2 different kinds of wood (8 lines total). The intention is to compare the cut quality of each of the 4 blades.
This video is a kind of follow-up to a recent video that I ended by asking: "What blade profile should I use?" ( • 120. Are spiral blades... at the 31:50 mark) As a beginning scroller myself, I am trying out several kinds of scroll saw blades to gain some experience and see if I have a preference.
I will be using a 3/4" thick piece of pine and a 5/8" thick piece of particle board as my test pieces. I choose pine and particle board because I have a lot of reclaimed pieces of both and expect to be making various projects from those materials.
The 4 scroll saw blades that I am using include:
1) a pin end with the typical blade profile
2) a spiral blade
3) a skipped tooth blade
4) a skipped tooth reverse blade
At the end of the video, I show the cuts made in both the pine and particle board and tell you which blade I think cut the best.

This bladeholder design can be used with several kinds of scroll saws (not just the Central Machinery / Harbor Freight saw). Check the web link provided to see if these holders will work on your saw.

@@ImaginethenMake I had a scroll saw in the 90s. It was much different than the scroll saws t on day! I haven’t scrolled in 20+ years. I recently purchased a Seyco and am just getting started with it… trying to learn all over again.

I think the Seyco is an excellent machine from what I have seen of it online. I still use the $100 Harbor Freight saw (although I did replace the blade clamps). I think if I tried a more high machine, I would probably upgrade. Enjoy your re-learning. I think the scroll saw is a tremendously versatile and hugely underestimated machine. Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I haven't used a scroll saw in over three years and when I did use one still didn't know enough about types of blades and what woods to use in them .. wanting to do holiday crafts with the scroll saw now and having trouble knowing what blades to use to makes some cuts with right curves . Like curves in a Xmas trees out of wood ect..

First, I should say that I am not an expert scrollers, but in my experience, I just wind up testing out a few different kinds of blades on the same kind of wood I want to make my project out of until I find a blade that works for me. I have also watched A LOT of KZread videos from other scrollers to see what kind of blades they use. There are so many different blade types with different TPI (Teeth Per Inch) that it can seem overwhelming to choose one, that's why I buy a few different kinds and then test. Here's a link to a pdf that shows some pinned end blade choices from Bear Woods: www.bearwood.com/media/all-blades-pinned.pdf . I hope this helps. Thanks for your comment and for watching.

Yes, I've had this Harbor Freight scroll saw for quite a while now. I did replace the blade holders though; I'm not sure if you saw my video about that ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/iWxnts6ldtGzl9Y.html ). I replaced the holders so that I could use pinless (flat) scroll saw blades. Specifically, I wanted to try using spiral blades and they only come as pinless (or flat end) blades. When I tried a spiral blade, I made a video about it ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/n31ko8ucodaXqKw.html ). I also tried using a clamped on fence while cutting with a spiral blade ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/gIqJyMNxo7aZgNo.html ). If your saw can use only pin end blades, that's fine, and in some ways even easier to use (it is much easier to change a pin end blade than a pinless blade). The down side is that pin end blades require a larger pilot hole when making inside cuts. I hope all of my rambling here has helped you out a little. Thanks for your comment and for watching.

Could you give me the name of the best blade to buy

The best blade for you depends on a lot of different factors like: what kind of wood are you cutting, how thick is it, do you need to make inside cuts, how detailed are the cuts you need to make, do you need to make long and straight cuts, etc. I recommend trying out a few different kinds of blades and see which you prefer. So far, out of all of the blades I have tried, I like the skip tooth reverse blades best but I have not tried all of the blade types available. You can buy many different kinds of scroll saw blades directly from Amazon. This link will bring you to Amazon and show you a set of blades that look pretty good to me. amzn.to/3bMhWKZ I have not tried these yet but I think they are likely to be a pretty good blade if you need to make tight turns and accurate cuts. I'll be trying these blades out shortly. Here's a link to some reverse tooth blades that also look good: amzn.to/35O9LKe I hope this helps.
