We need more filmmakers making filmmaking videos like this and no more B-Roll youtubers. Great stuff Lewis looking forward to the next video
@NickWeaver

This video has a lot of b-roll. I’m interested in understanding what you mean. Can you explain?
@FlipsMedia
2 жыл бұрын
@@NickWeaver Sure thing. Majority of KZreadrs claim they are filmmakers when their entire portfolio is nothing more than B-Roll footage with widescreen bars and some music slapped on. That’s it. That ALL they have to show. No short films, no commercial work. Nothing. Those people are not filmmakers. Lewis on the other hand is a filmmaker, check out his portfolio of work he has done. Yes, this video has B-Roll in it but that’s not the point of my comment. Lewis has many video showing tutorials on lighting on the work he has done. He shows actual lighting techniques on the paid work he has done as a filmmaker. That’s what I mean by we need more filmmakers making videos and no more B-Roll KZreadrs who have no credentials of any actual “work”
@NickWeaver

@@FlipsMedia Interesting. You're saying you like to see actual commercial work before you acknowledge someone as a filmmaker. I would consider anyone a filmmaker who makes any form of film, but I do like to see true understanding of the craft, especially in situations where people are offering advice and calling it professional, lol.
@FlipsMedia

@@NickWeaver Yes and no. Type in on KZread “ Cinematic B-Roll” and watch those videos. Those are the videos I am talking about. No story, no feeling, literally just random B-Roll footage with widescreen bars and music. If someone’s portfolio is literally just those videos, they are not a filmmaker. If someone has a “Cinematic B-Roll” video but also has lets say short films, something with actual story to it. Then yes I would consider them a filmmaker. They don’t even have to necessarily get paid for the short films, it could just be passion projects. The problem I am saying is when it’s ONLY “Cinematic B-Roll” is their portfolio. That’s my point

@@FlipsMedia Those people tend to make more money based off clicks than they do actually working a film/commercial. It's sad, really.

One of my favourite people commenting on a video for one of my favourite people. Hi
As a gaffer I appreciate your lighting instinct and creativity. So tired of seeing b-roll youtubers just throw a lightdome on and call that a review.
Apprecite tests/reviews like this far more than any 'technical' reviews. Thanks for sharing Lewis!
bro you have the most inspiring channel & content i've ever seen.. really appreciate the way you share your techniques & experiences.. makes me really want to get out there and trust and push myself

@@lewispotts Hi Lews, it would be cool, if you could share The Kelvin of the 1200d as a Sunlight and the cooler Kelvin of the toplight at the bed. Share it in your future videos also!
Lewis we need a new Squarespace ad ;) Great video as always
About the Fresnel, 'Meet the gaffer' did a test on it. 1200D with the most narrow reflector on is brighter than 1200D with the F10 Fresnel on.
Lew is top notch, this style (which I can’t name or put my finger on) is so right. Perhaps a lot of the style and feel comes down to the grade but overall there’s just something more special about even just Lew’s talking head image. Natural but grand with a half percent of uncanny. Wish I could figure it out.

The shots and that light looks fvcking amazing! 😩
freakin great video bro! keep it up! you're always providing so much value with these!
wild wild wild. thank you so much!
Beautiful work!
Love the videos!!
yes.. love it in contrast to speedy harsh, and yalling b-rolls of many youtubers these days.. - this is just so calm (also sound background),smooth, stable and so well lit ! amasing you did these scenes in your room and backyard! Lights makes a difference. quite a dramatic difference. also so smooth filming is great.
Bouncing off a parabolic softbox in daylights pretty crazy 🙌🏽🔥
Really nice grade and great light positioning.

Best cinematography channel on youtube. I Appreciate you sharing your knowledge
Learned quite a lot! Thank you for this video.
Well done!
I'm glad I found your channel from Epic Light Media back then. I haven't watched this video yet but I'm so excited to jump in. 250k subs is in your future. Guaranteed 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Amazing shots, appreciate these a lot more than "just talking about specs" kinda videos
That was so funny. At 4:27 I audibly said to myself, "..it's waterproof" and then you immediately responded hahaha
Great video! Also, please do talk about parabolic reflector umbrellas in a future video! I'm curious to see a cinematographer review them and but them through some practical tests.
I'd appreciate to see a video talking about different light modifiers, from the ones that are normally use in the cinema industry and other unconventional ways (like the umbrella, for example). Thanks so much for your high quality content
Dope
I love your videos man lol. I don’t even own alot of lights. But I always find a way of apply what I learn from you on a smaller scale
gotta love the thumbnail! nice review sir. you deserve my subs!
Thank you so much! I can learn cinamatography from your videos!
Great content as always bro, really appreciate you taking time to make these videos, learned so much from you in past year. It would be nice if you can do some episodes about the equipment, like what softboxes do you use, where to find those diffusion materials (clothes), floppies etc. Greetings from Bosnia and one love man
Great episode.The first shot could be done with three 600d. But it would been interesting to se the difference with a 600 as the sun in comparison. Or perhaps a 600 with a spotlight mount.

I agree, for the direct sun and even as the bounce just to see this look can be obtained with smaller lights or then, how would it look.
I know it's on purpose, but do you realize how cool you are? Like... you're thinking out of the box and it looks fabulous. Love the shots you got and the thought behind them.
Good shit homie! I'm really enjoying your stuff.
Best cinematography channel on KZread..seriously can't get enough. I was actually curious how you setup your talking heads for KZread, lol. What lights / diffusion?
I much enjoyed this video.
u r so good!!
I'd love to see it keying someone who is backlit by the actual sun. Love your content!
really like the way you keep things simple and natural without trying to be cool guy on youtube like some people haha. thanks!
you make lighting so easy! :)
I've got a project coming up where I'm going to have to light a pretty large space, so I'm considering just bouncing as much light as I can into the ceiling and then using neg and bounce to add shape. I bet the 1200D would be pretty good at that!
Dang dude. This is nuts. Great video
Great Video! I think you used it perfectly!
That’s awesome I use that same 7 foot umbrella to do the same exact thing!!!!
I have that same impact umbrella. its great when it rains.

So 🔥🔥🔥
So good! Always appreciate your work and willingness to teach us. I have a question that I hope you can answer. At the 3:55 mark in your video, you show a wide shot of the room. I'm curious if that's how bright the room actually was when you filmed the scene of her on the bed and on the floor, or if it's closer to the levels we see in the final shots. The BTS levels always seem so much brighter than the final, and I just assume they stop down with NDs in the camera to correct the exposure or are graded later to get the same results. Hope that all makes sense! Thanks again!
Great video! Also --- Subscribed!
great!
Damn I was gonna hold off on this one, but you might have just sold me
The sound on my computer is not working and still, this was a brilliant video haha. I've been getting more and more into lighting my shoots (I added a basic lighting set up to my kit last year) and this channel has really taught me so much and is inspiring new ideas of ways to light shots. Thanks for taking the time to make these, top level shit.

Thanks Lewis for these Bad ass videos! Always tons of Info and inspiration in them . What is the hand held mic your using ?
My question is: how can you not like a Lewis video...
Another great little demonstration. I'm curious, how long did you have the spotlight attachment on the 600D pro and at what %brightness was the 600D pro?
Would be cool to do a test outside as soft side key with sun in the back of the subject to see if it can actually compensate the exposure
