Hey Pirates, CMU is not a well-known university in South Korea. Also, the job market there was brutal with youth unemployment rate going over 12% at one point.

Hey Daniel. I graduated from Harvey Mudd College and I also had a lot of struggles in Korea. (If anything, HMC is even lesser known) We should connect. I'm guessing we're similar in age based on your timeline and have a lot of similarities to talk about. I also plan to make KZread and maybe we could be collaborators.

Such an inspiring story! I started my career path more smoothly and early than others but through this path, I changed my direction and had to stop to look for my own way many times. Now I am still walking on the way that I am creating by myself and do not know if I know where is my final destination. Sometimes i doubt it, sometimes I strongly feel determined. However, I still keep trying and trying to find my place where I could finally settle down

I loved this video so much! You never gave up, always kept pushing on! I am about to start college for computer science in software engineering, I am so nervous but since a kid I’ve always wanted to code and create things with technology. I’m currently a full time truck driver and going to be going to school for computer science . It’s videos like yours and my self driven motivation that keep me going. Thank you so much !

Nice ending 👍🏻 Now you can freely roam the vast sea of network. Don’t know if all your subs would be able to fit on your boat 🤣🤣

Thanks for your video, it was really inspiring. I have nothing to complain about, I got a FAANG offer straight out of univerisity and started my career pretty good (just 1 YOE), but this got me into some kind of perfectionism that makes me afraid of making a mistake along the way. Seeing your discipline and comebacks has inspired me to worry less and enjoy more, even if I make mistakes I'm young to make comebacks with discipline if that's what I want. I don't know any One piece quote so I will just say keep your good work in youtube and drawing smiles in our faces :)

Hey Daniel! Thank you so much for sharing your honest life journey with us. I relate to you on many things. I have done my BS and MS in South Korea and doing my Ph.D. in Japan right now. I am from neither of these countries. I agree with you, kanji learning is so 大変w especially for a person like me from non-kanji country. All my studies are about management engineering but I am trying to completely change my career and pursue a software engineering career from zero at age 32. I will probably land my first job at 35 if it magically happens haha. I have this crazy unrealistic fantasy at this old age. I am not sure I will reach my goal or not but it is just happy to see someone like you succeed in life and it gives me inspiration somehow.

You are one of the most inspiring people I know in the world, and I planned to follow in a similar footstep to yours prior to this video, only without the constant traveling. Here’s a question I want to ask: you stated that you originally wanted to become a game director. How did you change to decide to become a back-end software developer? I actually wanted to become a video game designer, like you, but seeing this, I would like to know if my interest might change as well, and understand a bit better beforehand, as I am still very young and inexperienced (I’m only an incoming high school sophomore as of right now)

As someone who also loves One Piece, you inspired me in many ways since I know I have mediocre skills in what I'm pursuing(Web development). I am inspired by your hardwork and learned from it. Keep inspiring us! Thank you so much, Nakama!

Wow! What an inspirational video, hard work really does pay off! One thing I’d like to ask is that, in the video you mentioned Amazon contacting you through LinkedIn, could you maybe make a video on that? Explaining how to use LinkedIn properly, making meaningful connections to acquire jobs? Thanks!

Such a great video pirate, I can relate, haven't done it in coding (which really has been my struggle) but done it in tech support, I've grown that much only because my efforts and dedication, wish salaries were that good here in Costa Rica but I make plenty to support my family and my wife. On a site note, I cannot decide - your resemblance to L from death note and Kojima-San is intriguing jaja.

I love your story, so let me share mine so far: I wrote my first line of code in January of 2021, I took a python class as I had one last elective to take before graduation. I really, really struggled in that class, and barely made a B- but nonetheless I graduated (with an art degree). I was desperate for a job, but I knew I didn’t know how to code well at all. So I began learning, I began with unity and kept learning python. I created this YT channel and posted small videos of little games I made. Some of which were quite successful. I then applied for many many jobs and finally landed a coding instructor job which pays me around 36k. Every day at work I still create games and learn new things. I recently created a game I released on steam and made a game only using Python. I am also learning HTML and CSS so I can create websites. Point is I keep trying to improve every single day I have. It’s not impossible, all you need is faith, determination and willingness to create projects. It’s all there in your heart, you just have to find it! ❤️

There are lots of things I want to write, that I don't think matter much. How you got me to watch One piece being the foremost of them. There is one thing tho which I want to say with conviction: Thank you for pointing a way through example and advice. You make me smile occasionally and add to my hope.
