    The American education system doesn't allow that. It happened that the director of the school in long Island decided to put him ahead, probably against the rest of the staff. K-12 schools don't like students to skip grades. For that reason, many gifted children are homeschooled

    You are driving a fixed distance twice, for a total of two hours - so your average speed / per hour is also going to be the same as the fixed distance. If you drove for a half hour at 50 that would be 25 miles - but 1.5 hours at 30 is 45 miles - so thats not the answer. 45 minutes ( .75 hours) at 50 = 37,5 miles / and 75 minutes ( 1.25 hours ) at 30 is also 37,5 miles. I’m really not great at math - i had to approach the problem from more of a real life / logic angle.

  • @sunnyk007

    @sunnyk007

    23 күн бұрын

    Let the distance travelled from home to work be x miles. The distance from work back home will be x miles as well. Speed = Distance / Time Equation 1 Therefore Time = Distance / Speed Equation 2 Distance 1 = x miles Distance 2 = x miles Speed 1 = 50 mph Speed 2 = 30 mph Total Time = 2 hours Total Time = (Distance 1 / Speed 1) + (Distance 2 / Speed 2) from Equation 2 2 = (x / 50) + (x / 30) Taking lowest common multiple of the denominators we get: 2 = (30x + 50x) / 1500 Bringing denominator from the right to the left we get: 2 * 1500 = (30x + 50x) 3000 = 80x Dividing both sides by 80 we get: 3000 / 80 = 80x / 80 37.5 = x Thus, we get the distance of 37.5 miles. Time 1 = Distance 1 / Speed 1 Time 1 = 37.5 / 50 Time 1 = 0.75 hours Time 2 = Distance 2 / Speed 2 Time 2 = 37.5 / 30 Time 2 = 1.25 hours Total Time = Time 1 + Time 2 Total Time = 0.75 + 1.25 Total Time = 2 hours Average Speed = Total Distance / Total Time Average Speed = (37.5 + 37.5) / 2 Average Speed = 75 / 2 Average Speed = 37.5 I wasn't very good with mathematics as a kid growing up in India. However, these types of problems are considered the easy ones for the average kid over there in Grade 6 or as we used to call it 6th Standard at age 11.
