As a VERY elderly lady just downsizing from our family home to an apartment, you are encouraging me to re-think my environment. I love your clean and inviting look - this is my daughter’s style, too! I have a soap saver that was my Gramma’s (I used it as a little girl when I helped her wash dishes!) that will fit beautifully with my new decorating. Thank you for so sweetly encouraging us - even ladies of my age! - and helping us think outside the box!! (About the soap saver - there was no dish soap at that time so you saved last bits of bars of soap and put them in the soap saver. Then you swished it in your dishwater to make suds for washing dishes. I was the “swisher”!)

I love this idea! I'm going to paint my laundry room that is actually the room that everyone comes in from outside and it's off my kitchen. I always hated that it was the first room everyone seen when they entered my home. This gives me so many ideas to make it pretty. Funny story: when my boys were kids they loved playing in the woods by my house. One day they were digging a hole in the woods to make a fort when they started digging up garbage. Not just any garbage but very old garbage. They dug up several old amber Clorox bleach bottles and some of them even had the lids. I gifted several to friends and kept one for myself. Maybe I should go back out there and do a little digging to see if I find anymore. 😂 We've lived in this house for 28 years now.

Love this! I’m glad to know I’m not alone in wanting even my cleaning supplies to look good and fit my decor. Here’s a typical example of conversation between my husband and I about it- Him: “Why did you want to pick that broom?” Me: “Because it’s pretty.” Him: “It’s a broom.” Me: “But it’s a pretty broom.”

I have a Cuban mop that I absolutely love, and it definitely has a look of rustic cuteness to me. If you haven’t seen one before, you’ll have to do a web search to see what I mean. I love the fact that I can use a standard sized dish towel with it, rather than trying to find the correct size of washable mop head, and it was incredibly reasonable.

Sarah. I love this video. My laundry room is open and exposed to my kitchen (it sits in a back hallway opposite of the first floor bath). I’ve been on the hunt for some glass or really nice containers I can place on shelves about my washer/dryer to hold all my tide pods, etc. I even purchased a set of vintage style labels from Etsy that I can attach and some ribbon that I can tie into bows on some containers. It’s actually looking quite nice and I’m not embarrassed by it anymore

I got one of those glass lemonade gallon dispensers that I use for my liquid laundry detergent. I also have the glass cookie jar type canisters for my Borax, Oxi clean, etc. ( Hillary of “Old World Home” has them on her kitchen counter for flour, sugar, etc.)

I like to label my cleaning products with old school writing paper (like the kind in kindergarten) then I write the name of the product in cursive and make it a sticker with box tape, cutting the edges straight & leaving a little edge to stick it. Looks super cute, especially if you’re like me and like old school room things.

This was full of lovely ideas. I'd add aprons and other linens like napkins and table cloths the and rugs for kitchen items. I use a small glass tray in our bathroom for toothbrushes and soap. I use a caddy for seeds and laundry items. I use woven baskets for holding our party supplies and paper goods. Finding a rope mop might be nice but it's not as practical as the spin or self twisting mops. Bamboo toothbrushes etc (we're still using plastic but like the idea of the Bamboo.) I make my own crocheted dishcloths and it's one of my favourite hostess gifts for friends because I find them so handy. I'm having a hard time finding the cotton yarn in Australia though. Xx

I’m obsessed with vintage looking work brushes! I have been looking for a vegetable scrubber. I never thought of Amazon.🤦🏻‍♀️ I love using glass bottles with my homemade essential oil cleaners but what I find frustrating is that the sprayers go bad then I’m stuck with finding a new sprayer the same size. I also use the plain plastic bottles. I also use assorted canning jars to hold everything from clothespins, dryer balls, and soaps to oatmeal and flour. I enjoyed this video so much!

Way back when, I used cloth diapers for all of my children (who are now full grown adults). “Pre-fold” referred to the type of diaper I used. When they outlived the baby’s needs, I had a nice supply of cleaning rags. They don’t get as full of lint as other types of cloth. Love your ideas, always. I’m getting the itch to do some cleaning now- after I take down the Christmas decorations!😂❤️

I have a lot of the pretty cleaning stuff already. It really does make cleaning a little more tolerable. You have a lot of good tips. The chinese prefolds look like the cloth diapers from Target that my daughter bought for my grand twins. They used them for burp cloths and lovies. It was a great muti purpose cloth and if a lovey was lost it was easy to grab another. As my granddaughter got older she even dyed them pink for her.

Our gabled home uses a wooden broom that doubles as a mop with a cloth wrapped over it, it's really neat. It's concept is similar to a wooden cuban mop. I'm curious to know if that's an old school method from Germany or where she got it. I picked up a 1 gallon galvanized bucket from family home & farm. Bonus idea: aprons!

I would also include a handle broom/brush with a small dust pan, sometimes the larger brooms still lets dust and debris escape going to the pan. There’s plenty of nice looking ones that are handmade, since a lot of companies and thrift stores keep upping the prices, might as well put your money to good use and put into smaller businesses or people of the trade. I also tend to find these to look more appealing than the standard plastic tools.

I love pretty cleaning supplies as well! It sometimes sways me to buy one brand over another, just by the looks of the bottle. ;-) I invested in some amber glass bottles for the products that I needed but came in ugly packaging and labeled them with the embossing label maker in black with white letters. Lime Away comes in a white spray bottle with a green and black, I think, label. I cut the label off and put an embossed label on it until my collection of amber bottles grows. ;-) Everything in my cleaning basket is white/grey/amber. Oh, and did I mention that I clean a few homes besides my own? The idea of carrying in a basket of garish colors cleaning bottles made me cringe. 😉 I find I enjoy the cleaning process far more if the things I use bring joy. Thank you for your video! I’m not alone! 😁

Peg rail is an old idea. It was popular in the 80s and then went out of style. I am glad it is back. But it is much older than the 80s. I am going to research this. Would love to know how far back it goes. Colonial days??

I notice little whisk brooms hanging on the pegs in all the shots. I matched my broom and dust pan when I first moved into my house in a black and white design and I can’t find a new set that I like. I have large baskets too!

I went to a restaurant supply store and bought “bar rags”. They are square, white, super absorbent dish cloths that bar tenders use. I especially love the “wash cloth” size because while I love a good microfiber cloth, they are always too huge to wring out constantly and let’s not even talk about those hideous neon colors. I must admit to buying a four pack of small microfiber cloths from William Senoma to use up a gift card. Even then,I nearly croaked at the price years ago. (4 for $12.00) That being said, the four pastel colored cloths were each designed for a different purpose and I still use them today. ( stainless steel, glass, etc.)

Prefolds? As in diapers, LOL! Hey, whatever works. They are designed to be absorbent. Most people are probably too young to remember what cloth diapers looked like. Remember the old flour sack dishcloths? Those are great, too, for glassware. I love anything vintage glass...liked your amber bottles. 😊

Staring in the 70’s,my mom would buy the linen tea towel that hung on a string with a dowel with a pretty picture and yearly calendar. At the end of each year,it would become the new dish towel for drying. (glasses in particular) Indeed they were the best and left no lint. Since she had so many,I still have some that I use which remind me of good times in the kitchen with her.🤗 ( however, too kitschy for me to leave on display)😅😂🤣

I love the idea of things being practical and beautiful. My only concerns would be a metal bucket rusting and as pretty as that mop looks, it looks like a pain to wring out. I love my mop and bucket but they’re bright red unfortunately. I also wonder how greasy those things would get hanging above the stove on the pegs. Love your channel!

I agree! My first thought seeing the items hanging above the stove was that straw basket catching fire. I like the look of the pegs in a laundry room. But my "laundry room" is a closet with just enough room for stacked front-loading washer and dryer. I have absolutely no place to hang things on pegs.

With the amber bottles I would recommend how to get more bang for your buck... Buy the hand soaps in those pretty glass bottles from the TJ Maxx or Ross for $4-5 and reuse them. They also have bath salts and many other things in them that you can reuse and it's cheaper than Amazon, even in bulk.

I love vintage looking cleaning supplies but I was wondering if you have a hack for making necessary modern supplies less ugly? I use a wetjet about twice a day on the white tile in our mudroom (not my choice) - it's super handy ... but it's PURPLE plastic. I can't find a comparable quick mop that looks pretty. I've already made my own velcro washable pads for it with thick tri-fold diapers, and I used a KZread hack to get the non removeable lid off the cleaner container so that I can fill it with a non toxic cleaner, but it's still ugly. Any ideas? Could it be spray painted? Thanks Sarah!

Love the idea of pegs on the wall, but have a collection of hooks that will do very nicely. I am revamping my laundry area, so your idea came at a great time for me. Do you have a source for pump or spray tops for mason jars. I would prefer the old mason jar look to the amber and other new bottles, and have a collection of some lovely ones that need a purpose. Thanks.
