One of my dogs is a Catahoula Cur and they are on of the few dog breeds that actually hugs people, we call them Houla Hugs. He wraps his arms around me and squeezes. He loves to be hugged as well.

My dog jumps for hugs. I sit on the floor open my arms and say “cuddles!” And she jumps at me with a smile on her face and puts her paws on my shoulders. She cuddles into me and mmmm I love her so much ❤️

I have some health issues. My dogs sense when I'm having a bad day and stick close to my side. They also sense when I'm upset. They are more intuitive then non pet owners give them credit for.

I know of a Norwegian Elkhound puppy with no training in that skill that saved an old man's life by alerting his wife that something was wrong, turned out that the man was about to enter a high blood sugar crisis and the alert was critical to getting help in time.

Indeed my two dogs and even my one stray cat is like that with me. I have kidney issues MS Fibromyalgia and cancer and they all know when Mommy is not okay even before I know I am not okay 😂 I love them so much all are shelter or stray animals with no training but they just know. It's crazy in the most amazing way. 😊

Yeah many pets that really are close to their owners are quite intuitive. . I have 2 Sun Conures (little Parrots ) they know when I'm not feeling well, or when I'm extra happy and respond accordingly. .they even know when I've forgotten my meds.. Yep I've told them before " I've taken them" they persist I start feeling bad.. then realize I had the wrong days pill pack! They just know!! They can read very subtle changes in their people.

My dog hates baths. No wonder he wants to go outside immediately after a bath and roll around in the dirt.

my mums dog is the opposite when i take her for a walk she will try to get as dirty as possible and then insist on a bath followed by being dried wrapped in a towel by me and only me. she is rescue dog, mixed breed.

What they're saying is simply that you need to think of their species' interpretations of human behaviours. Dogs are different than people and thus are not 100% happy with some of the human tendencies we use around them. They're saying you can hold your dog when they initiate it, when they feel they want to be hugged. Otherwise, yes, hugging to a dog is usually an act of dominance as you aren't letting them escape as is a natural inclination for animal instinct. You can pet your dog in places other than the head as it's most likely an area that can easily irritate them. You can leave your dog alone but not for extended periods of time and often just being in the same room with them is enough. You should give your dog an appropriate amount of attention but don't dote on them incessantly or ignore them, let them be them. Everything is about moderation and getting to know what your specific dog is comfortable with. While all dogs are different, this video is giving a generalized overview for the large majority of the species. Basically, it's trying to say to allow dogs to be dogs and not put human behaviours in them. To live as harmoniously as possible, humans and dogs need to understand each other and then there will be much less conflict and more love and trust built in the bond.

My pup is a Shih Tzu he is all black with a white belly. He is also scared of other dogs bc he thinks he’s human. He loves it when I hug him. He comes to sit in my lap and cuddles he is not a big dog he is very tiny and LOVES to cuddle.

Being auntie to a new puppy (8 wk old Boykin Spaniel), I found this very helpful. I'm sort of helping to raise her, while my sister works. I've never raised a puppy before, so these tips were great. I already knew some of them (eg, smells, eye contact) but it's always better to learn more.

In the video, the facial expression and body language of the dogs shown getting their heads patted or getting hugged clearly indicates that they are happy. What an unconvincing portion of the video these two scenes present. And of course, this also calls into doubt your entire authority on dog body language.

one time i went outside with my dog exploring and i would ask him questions or tell him to go find what he’s smelling and he understood every word i said. i would tell him to go and he would go, i would tell him to stop and he would stop, i would ask him what he’s found and he would lead me to where he was sniffing. maybe i just got a smart one lol

I've never lived with dogs so these tips were very educational and enlightening for me, because it helps me to understand good ways to interact with dogs when I meet them and am around them. Thank you.

I used 2 own a Black Lab Chow mix named Loki from 2005-2018, He was SO calm!! 😊 He wasn’t really a normal dog, he had NO interest in toys and was OBSESSED with food and drinking water!!

I have 2 jack russels. One of them (a girl we got at 8 and 1/2 weeks old) loves hugs. The other (a boy we got at 10 weeks old which was never handled till we got him) likes hugs when he is sleepy but is just learning to accept hugs when he is awake and full of excitement. I think many dogs if they are not handled from babies aren’t as big a fan of hugs. Yes there are some that will never like being hugged but also from experience with pets the younger you start the better. So the puppies who are handled Aron mere days after they are born are more likely to accept hugs than those who aren’t handled till they are few months old or later.

Dogs are highly intelligent; to say they understand a "few phrases" is so inherently wrong its laughable. A well trained adult dog will have an extensive vocabulary well beyond 4-5 phrases as this video suggests. Try maybe 60-100 phrases and you'd be more on the spot for an average trained dog. This video was hastily put together for views and has very little factual claims in it. Most of it is either conjecture or anecdotal at best. Dogs live to please their owner. If you show affection by petting and hugs, and you raise them like that, odds are they absolutely *love it*.

I expose my dog to strong smells on a daily basis, but it goes both ways.

I also think that most of this things are pure recommendations. Dogs have personalities on their own and they like different things. One of our male dogs like to be hugged, the female one hates to be hugged, the other male one, likes to stay on his head while being patted on the belly, because why not. The 3 love the water and swim. Our previous dog hated unknown people trying to pat him and hated strong smells and hated (but tolerated) baths. And he understood perfectly long or abstract commands. He was so smart and also wise (as in sharing his food with a hedgehogs or ducks or whatever). But if you wanted to see his good side, you had to respect him and give him his space. Dogs are just as unique as we are. You have to treat them more like people and just find their peculiarities.

I personally believe my dog demands hugs from me. Anytime I get home from school she'll run into my chest and won't leave till I give her a hug then she licks my face and sits on my feet. Funny thing though I have had my dog for almost four years and have no clue what breed she is.

My Beagle was the same way, I would barely st down, and he would jump up and place his head on my right shoulder and would not make a move until I embraced him. He also liked a firm pat when he was petted. It's been five years and it still hurts to think about him.

Devin Belson my dog closes his eye (one eyed pupper) and accepts what happens and waits till its over. He gets borkoverdrive afterwards and gets a treat for dealing with me for 20 minutes. I will say it's almost over when he's whining and he'll sigh and stop. Its adobs.

BONDING 😍😍FAMILY GOALS 😍😍

The hugging part is pretty true. I have had 4 of my own dogs and 3 relatives dogs, as well as having spend many hours volunteering at the humane society socializing dogs and as a rule they just dont like it, with the exception of my current cairn terrier male who Ive noticed is a submissive dog. He actually craves it and likes me to put my arms around him at night when we cuddle up to sleep. It makes my heart sing to be so close to him. As per words, I read that dogs can have up to a 350 word vocabulary. Looking into their eyes is pretty true. In nature dogs do not make expended eye contact with each other and see it as a challenge to higher status. And smiling at a strange dog is actually a bad idea because to a dog, smiling is bearing your teeth and that is an act of aggression. With strange dogs, smile without showing teeth, and look at them, but focus on their neck. I also keep my hand closed and offer the dog the top of my wrist to sniff, because if a dog snaps, an open hand fits right into the mouth and you will get bitten, where as a fist doesnt really fit into a dog mouth that well and is less likely to be bitten. And the last one, if you cant spend at least an hour an a day playing with your dog, then you really shouldnt have one. Dogs want us to play with them, and no, having 2 dogs so they can play with each other is not a substitute. We (the human race) domesticated dogs and they are dependent on us for many things, and socialization and play time are critical to them being happy. At the humane society where I volunteer, they instituted a policy where all the dogs get 1 on 1 time every day from the volunteers. This is supposed to be about 30 minutes to 1 hour per dog per day. Once they started doing this, they discovered a huge increase in how fast the dogs got adopted. The dogs were less stressed, less depressed, more happy, and that made them more excited to see potential adopters because they associated time spent in visitation with potential adopters as fun time, so the people were more likely to take the dog home.

Never noticed how different my dog was before watching this. I mean she loves hugs, loves head pats, or any kind of patting really. She is almost always in my arms or trying to be right against or on top of me. She would rather lay with me when i get home than play really, she doesnt like toys at all. Shes quiet 24/7 and almost never barks or whines or makes any noise really. Shes a strange dog i guess but shes a really well behaved and sweet girl. Couldnt ask for a better dog to be honest.

My dog loves hugs and cuddles. Yesterday I was on my laptop; on my bed, she sat in front of my laptop. I asked her "What?" She puts both her paw up and pushes me back on the bed, cuddled me.

My dog is my baby, but she is EXTREMELY HYPER and strong. She’s tangles me up in her leash in order to stop me from going inside 🤦🏾‍♂️, then pulls where she wants to go like “I’m your owner human. Bring yo big self on here” lol

She didn't actually say she's never owned a dog. She might already know what it's like. I also have no dog & I'm watching this. I just love animals. I used to own a pedigree rough collie. We got her when she was 1 year old. It was great, but not the best decision as dogs involve a lot of work. Personally, I prefer cats. I like how they're more self-reliant, need less attention & don't need to be taken on daily walks etc. My dog was also much larger, smellier, needed brushing more often and was more clumsy. Regardless, I love all animals. I really need to get some pets, I only have a degu my brother left here when he moved out, so now we have to look after it... If I was to get a dog, I'd get a doberman. It's definitely my favourite breed. Maybe Resident Evil had an influence? Lol.

Yeah corgis are cute but I prefer big dogs like pit bulls mastiffs and labs

I found this very funny . One time I took my sister's dog on a car ride. I told her that we are going to take her to the groomers cause she stinks, When we got to the park she purposefully rolled in geese poop. I googled it and apparently she was trying to change her smell. I then had to ride back to the house with the car smelling like hot geese poop, since that day I've never told her she smells bad again.

#6 is so true my lab and golden loves to sniff around. They love our spacious lot especially we’re close to the woods. And I just let them explore but of course with proper supervision.

My dog literally stares at me and I look at it and we just stare into each others eyes for 5 mins before one of us look away

Lol my dog literally jumps in the tub and excitely wines for the bath water to start. He also has his own pool.outside for hot days and he runs and plays in it making a mess. Hahah i think the bath thing is wrong. If you show your pup that water is okay and gradually and patiently show him that water can be fun they warm.up to it and actually go nuts. My dog is crazy for water and baths. Lol

Many dogs hate hugging especially herding dogs but some dogs accept it( wouldn't recommend to test it on your dog

How about facing fears like storms? My dog Macie (who is a 2 years old Havanese) has this fear of storms and doesn’t want to go outside in it. I try really hard to get her to face those fears including the garbage truck (except that’s something so different). Yet this video is quite helpful! Thanks! Though I know that hugging dogs is not always the best option because they want to get away or feel very uncomfortable.

Spend more time with your dogs and allow him/her to smell and sniff and walk to and/or around places and objects and areas and surfaces. Take a cold shower and have good habits and don’t drink milk and dairy for 5 weeks than drink it once than repeat. Take a cold shower for one or two days in a row and than take a warm or hot shower than repeat this process. The last two sentences I wrote explains how you can stay calm with and also without your dog or animal or dogs or animals.

S3VEN no dairy is so you can't poop outside. If you eat dairy, your dog will know you have to poop outside, and your dog will proceed to fight you.

My Chihuahua loves massages ,car rides, shopping, going to Pectco,walks , all in all she is exactly like me ,I put her to bed like a baby everynigth but sometimes she gets tired before me and she goes to bed and bundles herself under her blanket, she is so smart that she gets bored of the same walk that she stop at the corner, so I ask her which way she wants to go and she looks around and she may want to cross the street and I let her led and I can see How secure and happy she is ,you should try it sometime! She is happy and I'm happy

I don't agree with the head petting. My pug always seems to enjoy it. He closes his eyes in an enjoyable way. And looks at me like why did you stop?

Always love the advice not to convey tension to your dog by holding the leash taut. The dog keeps the leash taut. If I were to try to keep the leash loose, I'd have to jog along behind her.

My dog is really just like me like the people I don’t like he doesn’t like if I am bored he is bored if I run he will run and if I sit he will sit if I stand up he will stand up if I sit on the floor he will run to come sit on my lap

I change the way I say my commands (high pitched, low?), while giving him a different hand signal, and that seems to work good with him.

There are people who’re very scared of dogs, so letting your dog out without a leash is not advisable.

My dog hates hugs she has to struggle away to get out of my arms she gets mad when I don’t take her with me she will run under the tv counter and I have to ask for forgiveness by kneeling down and asking her politely to get out of under the counter she will and when I’m on my phone she barks at me also she tries to bite my earphones like if she knew that is what gets sound into my ears she is super intelligent she likes licking a lot that is how she wakes me up she is so cute and adorable

3:23 MY family has two leashes, a 15 foot on and a 5 foot one. I always use the 15 foot leash, but everyone else HATES it, so they use the 5 foot leash. When they come back from their walk, they say he was terrible, but that never happens to me. Jeez, ppl, just use the 15 foot leash...

My dog loves getting in my arms and making me hug him. He likes anything that's considered affection. But sometimes he likes his space too.

Dogs can be very different as individuals so this isn't always, but generally this video is spot on!

My dog loves to jump in the shower with me. It was weird the first few times but i noticed that he loved to join me so i let him. He also loved head pats, he also loved laying around all day watching tv with me.
